Jewell to Make Changes for Burnley Clash
Jewell to Make Changes for Burnley Clash

Town boss Paul Jewell says he could make changes to his side for Wednesday’s home game against Burnley with “one or two” players having lost form or shown tiredness in the last couple of matches.

Jewell says he spoke to the squad about the likelihood of changes as the Blues began the current busy month: “I said to the players at the start of March that we’ve got eight games so there will be rotation.

“Players who have played a lot of football might have a spell out. Luke Hyam can count himself really unlucky, to be honest. We’re pleased with Luke and we’re looking forward to him having a decent career at Ipswich.

“We probably need to rest one or two, but having said that players want to play. One of two have hit a little bit of a flat spot, so we might just rotate it a little bit. It won’t be a huge amount, but the odd one might just come out for a little spell.”

The Town boss says he has no new injuries ahead of the game against the Clarets, who beat the Blues 4-0 at Turf Moor earlier in the season: “We’ve got no injury news from the team that played on Saturday or the squad, so we’ve got a clean bill of health.”

Jewell says midfielder Jimmy Bullard is back in training after his two-week club suspension but won’t be in Wednesday’s squad.

Meanwhile, Burnley are hopeful that striker Jay Rodriguez, a Town target in the summer, will be over his groin problem in time to face the Blues. The injury forced Rodriguez out of Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Cardiff.

Yeah i think Drury will be rested. I've got a feeling Bowyer may come in for him. JET is the other obvious choice but im not sure i would leave him out. Murphy was also quiet (even though he did score) on Saturday so possibly Carson in for him.

i reckon it will be Bowyer with Hyam on the bench tbh....

I'm sure I read somewhere Cresswell and Smith were carrying knocks? Can't see the team being tinkered by 4 or 5 changes though.

Hyam on the bench bluelady - now there's a topic for discussion......cover in case Bowyer can't last the 90 or useful to protect a lead perhaps?

Drury was poor on Saturday. Would expect him to be replaced - particularly as PJ seems to drop players (Hyam, ALB) after just one poor showing.

PJ can start to prepare for next season, so drop all the players that are out of contract or are being moved on. Let's see what talent is actually left.

Bowyer in for Drury obviously....cant see him putting Carson straight back in though. Reckon he will play Scotland in for JET, playing just behind Chops. Drury on the bench with JET, Sonko, ALB and Stephenson. A hard fought single goal win for me.

Got to say looking forward to this fixture we really do need to win this game or at worst draw it we cannot afford to stall now Burnley are a canny side and will park the bus if they go 1 nought up so we definatly need to strike first and Im really hoping Matin Chops Murphey Jet will all figure as we need to totally nullify them before they can get settled come on PJ let the lads no this one is a must win very least a draw ok TTFN COYB!!

I imagine JET and Drury will be dropped for Bowyer & Scotland. Possibly Stephenson replacing Murphy too. Would be nice to see Hyam and Carson on the bench, but I doubt it...

Jas he was poor against Hull too.. he seems a little jaded so PJ would be tactically correct to 'drop him'. Alf i actually prefer Bowyer off the bench think he offers a lot for the last 20 mins or so, but dont think that is what PJ will do, so yes Hyam will be on the bench to replace Bowyer who i cant see lasting the full 90. That said he may just drop Drury to the bench. Cant see him dropping Jet TBH, think his is more about good days and bad days rather than being tired. Maybe Carson for Murphy. i would at least like to see Hyam and Carson on the bench!

Bluelady ..Drury was also very tired looking and poor against the Saints so after 3 poor games would be the obvious one to drop out ,for me i would definately go for Bowyer above Hyam as at the moment he is a lot better all round player, but Hyam def on the bench . Would also like to see Carson on bench as his pace frightens teams late in games .
I am glad PJ dropped ALB as him in goal against Saints and Hull and the games would have been over by half time

Would be very disappointed to see JET get dropped as he has always got the potential to liven things up and would be harsh imo

ALB/Cropper for McCarthy.

Tiredness?!..wish I had to play 8 games of football to make my living this month..

McCarthy
Edwards Delaney Smith Cresswell
Leadbitter Bowyer
JET Martin Murphy
Chopra

I think will be the team, just the one change. While JET is still confident I think he should stay in the team because one of his wonder strikes will fly in one of these days.

Sucro totally agree and as for ALB i can recall many more than one poor game, i just think it was a particularly poor game that got him dropped. its a shame as he always comes back into the team has a few good games then it starts to go wrong and he becomes a total liability. For me real critical we sort the GK situation out, and sure PJ is well aware of this. That Villa keeper sounded promising!

Big fan of Drury but his form did dip on Saturday, Probably due to his tireless work rate and commitment over a string of games. Personally i would like to see Stevenson start in his place with Bowyer on the bench and agree Scotland for JET. Carson and Hyam will probably get a look in towards the final couple of matches and play a more integral role next season. As a final note; Mr Leadbitter has been too cold than hot in performance and although his form over the last two matches is much improved , i would only offer him an extension on contract with significant reduction in wages. (Time to put your heart where your wallet was Grant!)

Garv im not sure if Sonko might get the nod? Just a hunch? I think he will make 3 changes. Definately Drury, not so sure about the others. He may well start Scotland as perhaps he fears the automatic contract maybe his only way of keeping him next season as no one seems in a hurry to negotiate a new one? (just a thought!)

Time to clear the decks, Sonko, Bowyer out the door, Leadbitter either sign or go

Hungry_Badger added 16:47 - Mar 20
I think he might give Stevenson his first start along with Carson coming in for JET, but that will mean that either Drury, Bowyer, JET or Scotland will drop out of the 16 altogether which i dont think any particually deserve, so it might just be the one change.

Drury will be dropped, hes got Hyam out of the team ( two players who probably saved his job ) and back to the same old faces that nearly lost it for him mmmmmmmm look to the future Mr Jewell, Leadbitter will be gone probably along with Bowyer but heres betting they will be back in the starting line up !!!!!! not rmpressed ! and yes Drury didnt play well on Sat but how many poor performances before the other pair got dropped ?
0

Surco72 added 17:03 - Mar 20
As stated before Drury has been poor for the last three games ,just because most dont go to away games doesnt mean they didnt happen . And surely no sane person would drop Leadbitter after getting man of the match and in the championship team of the week two games in a row ?
And i would say backing Chopra and moving Martin centrally just behind him was equally if not more so the reason his job is saved as Hyam hasnt played for weeks and the good results keep coming ?

Maybe bring Stevenon in for JET (either a direct replacement or put him behind Chops with Martin out on the right) and Bowyer for Drury. Controversial this is I know as Drury has played so well but I'd leave him out of the side and on the bench I'd have ALB, Sonko, Bullard (yes JB), JET, Scotland.
And a starting line up of

McCarthy
Edwards Smith Delany Cresswell
Leadbitter
Martin Bowyer Murphy
Stevenson
Chopra

JET always looks knackered but would not leave him out at home maybe away at Watford, Stevenson for Drury and Sonko for Tommy Smith, Tommy took a knock near the end on Saturday and maybe a rest for a game will do him good.
