Jewell to Make Changes for Burnley Clash
Jewell to Make Changes for Burnley Clash
Tuesday, 20th Mar 2012 14:13

Town boss Paul Jewell says he could make changes to his side for Wednesday’s home game against Burnley with “one or two” players having lost form or shown tiredness in the last couple of matches.

Jewell says he spoke to the squad about the likelihood of changes as the Blues began the current busy month: “I said to the players at the start of March that we’ve got eight games so there will be rotation.

“Players who have played a lot of football might have a spell out. Luke Hyam can count himself really unlucky, to be honest. We’re pleased with Luke and we’re looking forward to him having a decent career at Ipswich.

“We probably need to rest one or two, but having said that players want to play. One of two have hit a little bit of a flat spot, so we might just rotate it a little bit. It won’t be a huge amount, but the odd one might just come out for a little spell.”

The Town boss says he has no new injuries ahead of the game against the Clarets, who beat the Blues 4-0 at Turf Moor earlier in the season: “We’ve got no injury news from the team that played on Saturday or the squad, so we’ve got a clean bill of health.”

Jewell says midfielder Jimmy Bullard is back in training after his two-week club suspension but won’t be in Wednesday’s squad.

Meanwhile, Burnley are hopeful that striker Jay Rodriguez, a Town target in the summer, will be over his groin problem in time to face the Blues. The injury forced Rodriguez out of Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Cardiff.

I think JET and Drury will drop out with Bowyer and Stephenson coming in. Carson won't start surely, he hasn't played for ages he will be rusty to say the least. Might see him and Hyam back on the bench though.

I'd like to promote the youngsters where possible. However, if Smith has a knock and JET is knackered, then my team would be as follows:

McCarthy
Edwards Sonko, Delaney, Cresswell
Leadbitter Hyam
Carson Martin Murphy
Chopra

Not a Bowyer fan but he made a bit of difference when he came on last Saturday. Up to then no one had been able to put their foot on the ball.

Garvs line up is spot on in my opinion. No way will McCarthy be dropped and why people clamour for ALB is beyond me - do they not go to the games. Can't see Scotland appearing again from the start as the wage bill has to be cut - I like the bloke and will take him on reduced terms but he is not getting any younger and I think we need a tall striker in the ranks in the Summer. Bowyer is a very good player when fit and deserves another go. I think he is a decent player and would keep him next season if the price is right so to speak. Come on Town I'm not a fan of Eddie Howe so lets wipe the smile off his face tomorrow.

Did anyone notice on Saturday that Stephenson seemed to be 'blowing hard' not long after coming on, don't think the guy is anywhere near fully fit yet.

JET can't be one of those whose is tired, he doesn't run about enough!!!

He will start in the hope that he will do better than Saturday.

Bowyer for Drury, and Sonko for Delaney the only starting line up changes.

I have to say that I would prefer ALB to take McCarthy's place. (Nothing to chose between them, why give McCarthy experience?) The Reading man was at fault for another goal on Saturday, the ball going under his body. He has a problem with getting himself grounded quick enough. Not the first time that the ball has gone under his body and he has failed to get the block in.

Would like to see Carson come in for Jet, with jet on the bench, also would like Dury rested for one game and Stephenson in instead rather than Bowyer who will prob go at end of season

Maybe time for Stevenson's first start? JET wasn't so good in the last game so maybe playing Martin on the right and Stevenson down the middle?
Wouldn't mind seeing him start, or Josh Carson back in the team! COYB!
