Jewell Wants More Goals From JET
Jewell Wants More Goals From JET
Monday, 2nd Apr 2012 09:38

Blues boss Paul Jewell says he wants to see more goals from Jay Emmanuel-Thomas with the 21-year-old often getting in good positions but not always hitting the target. The former Arsenal trainee, who has netted six times this season, had a number of opportunities during Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Barnsley, coming closest when he hit the bar in the second half.

Jewell wondered whether Tykes’ keeper David Button might have got a touch: “I don’t know whether the keeper might have just tipped that on to the bar.

“He had six shots in the first half and I think he nearly broke his foot when he kicked the ground on one occasion.

“With the ability he’s got, he’s got to hit the target more often, he’s got to score more goals. His ability is undoubted.

The Blues boss says he replaced the exciting former England U19 international in the second half as he was tiring: “He was absolutely knackered.

“Sometimes when he’s a bit tired he switches off a little bit and I think he’d be the first to admit that. This is the most he’s ever played football and he’ll be better for next year because he knows found out what it’s about — the level of football and the pace of the football.

“He had six shots in the first half, no exaggeration. He’s just got to realise he only gets one for scoring, he doesn’t get two if he bursts the net!”

Had a good game on Saturday and will only get better. Shame on all those who doubted him on his first handful of appearances, lets all get behind the younger members of the squad as they're the ones who will see us out of this division, not the likes of Lee Retirement Contract Bowyer.

Ironic that many of the same people who have screamed for faith to be put in youth slated him from the start.

Think the lad just needs a bit of luck - he must have broken a Town record this season for the number of times a player has hit the post / bar...

These are the players we need to keep by giving them contracts that are more than a year long. With the new wage structure coming in how many players will sign long contracts as team coming down will have more money and can offer better contracts

JET seems to have one fantastic shot per game and they usually cannon back off the crossbar. Next season I could see him scoring around 15 goals if he continues to improve, and hopefully he will be a key player for us.

I agree he is exciting and all that when he is on form but my worry is when he can't be bothered or (poor lamb) gets tired we are effectively playing a man down. I really hope he proves me wrong but I believe he is a luxury player whereas someone like Carson will at least keeping running and hussle the opposition.

give him a break!
he's hit the bar like 4 or 5 times this season?
they all could have easily gone in!

I like him a lot. He is of course still learning but minutes on the park will help his cause no end and I see him being pivotal to Town's success or otherwise next season.

Yeah,he's hit the bar quite a few times this season..

Has the ability and a brilliant shot on him..maybe we should play him in the "free" role behind Chopra with Carlos Edwards on the right of midfield instead?

JET is the typre of player who puts bums on seats, i would like to see him play of the main stricker like Eric Gates use to with Josh Carson on the right wing. I think he could be the top man in this league next season he has quick feet, can beat players for fun and when he gets everything together will be some player.

Although he switches off from time to time, this is beginning to happen less often. His heading of the ball has improved 200% since he first took the filed for iTFC.

He is improving all the time AND you can feel the buzz in the crowd when he gets the ball.

Remember folks he is still very young and should have years of great football ahead of him. The difficulty will be, as he improves, so the big clubs will come knocking and we may have trouble keeping him

I like JET. One of the very few 'exciting players' signed by PJ. But I understand the managers concerns - often JET is lazy and is too unpredictable. If we want promotion, he will need to be more consistent next season.
