Fulham Linked With JET
Fulham Linked With JET
Wednesday, 18th Apr 2012 23:18

Fulham are amongst a number of Premier League clubs to have been alerted to the talents of Blues midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, according to a tabloid report.

The 21-year-old has begun to show his potential in the second half of the season and scored his seventh goal of the campaign in the 1-1 draw with Birmingham on Tuesday.

According to the report, Town are said to be looking for a fee of double the initial £1.5 million they are said to have paid the Gunners last summer, although manager Paul Jewell recently quoted a lower figure of £600,000.

However, even if there is any truth in the report, with Emmanuel-Thomas an increasingly key player in Jewell’s team, the Blues are likely to do everything they can to hold on to the Londoner with Marcus Evans's cash ensuring that they can rebuff offers in a manner they wouldn't have been able to a few years ago.

Meanwhile, striker Michael Chopra has been banned from driving for six months after reaching 12 points on his licence having admitted driving through a red light in September last year.

Chopra, who attended court with chief executive Simon Clegg, was also £400, ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a further £15 to victims of crime. The 28-year-old was banned from driving for 56 days for speeding earlier in the season.

Class player and the future of Ipswich Town.
Hopefully Ipswich can keep and build a team around him

Anyone who thinks that JET is anything other then an exceptional talent knows
bog all about football

Would be a good move for JET's career progression. Hard to see him wanting to stay here if Fulham want him. I just hope he has got more than one more year on his contract, otherwise his transfer value will be compromised.

If he was to go it would be for more than £3m. Why would we sell a 21 year old with some much potential, who is arguably our most improved player in 2012 (Martin,'Smith & Drury the others) & who gets the supporters going with his natural ability? Considering we paid £1.5m last year, he is surely going to have a £5m+ price tag now.

As for Chops, I do worry about that boy. Great player & natural goalscorer, but not the smartest kid in the classroom.

This could be the replacement for Dempsey, although i can see JET staying.

I think Paul Jewell is in the process of building a great team and Jet will want to be part of it and develop with it, so arse off Mr. Jol. No wonder Chopra hasn't been scoring goals - last time he did he said he was going for the golden boot(!) - his mind has been on other things. What happens to these idiots, time for them to grow up and start acting like responsible citizens, then they can become youngsters hero's. COYB

He has GOT to stay - he will come good and will have a great season next year I am sure. If he can work on his fitness and concentration levels he will be a great asset to us. We've got to think of a song for him - he is the first player for a long time to have the potential to become a REAL fan's favourite

The article says cash strapped, that is perfectly correct, we are cash strapped, its high time people realised it, this may well be just newspaper gossip but the harsh reality is that if Fulham offer a decent fee, anything above say £2 then he will want to go due to the higher wages on offer, that is the sad reality of where we have ended up, a hard up average Champ team, nothing more.

Fulham have a lot of good players in JET's area, if he moved he wouldn't make their team - Dempsey, Ruiz, Duff, Dembele

JET is improving and another year in the championship he could become one of the league's best players, then move up to Premier league (hopefully with us!)

I would be very upset if this came to pass as he is the only player we have who gives me a feeling of anticipation when he has the ball.

"He won't be going anywhere, he's going to be a key member of the squad next season, and will play a big part in our promotion."

SITB are you naive or what? If the rumour is true and Fulham do bid JET will be at Craven Cottage before the door even shut properly at Portman Road, question is with Clegg doing the business will Ipswich get it's money back or will it be the usual ITFC valuation of players leaving?

I honestly cant see him going.

He isnt ready for Premier League yet. He needs alot more games to get his fitness to top level and get consistancy into his game.
He wouldnt be a regular starter for Fulham and his fitness would suffer badly! It doesnt matter how talented you are, if your are not fit, you are no value to the team. At Town he is guarenteed to start most games and PJ is a very good at individual player management. PJ will get the best from JET.

Do not let this talented player go, we need players like him if our Premiership ambitions are to be realised.

Me too. Shows a complete lack of ambition at the club if they let him go, at whatever price. You can feel the positive vibes at PR whenever he gets the ball AND HE CAN ONLY GET BETTER.

At the start of the season he was almost incapable of heading the ball, he is now more than competent at getting his head to clearances from the keeper - just one area of improvement seen since the start of the season.

Cash strapped...since when?

Sadly, I think we will sell if we get an offer - with PJ replacing with a 32 year old.

JET is not everyone's cup of tea - he is either terrible or brilliant. Personally I think he is worth the entrance fee alone! He is also only 21 and a player for the future of this club. I will be bitterly disappointed if we sell him. However, as manager of the football club, it will be PJ's job to line up adequate replacements for any of the players who leave in the Summer. I hope Jewell proves me wrong, but I have no faith in either him or indeed Clegg doing deals for long-term players.

"Cash strapped...since when? "

Since we have not been able to meet any of our debt repayments

Since we have seen players walk out of the door, out of contract, as it appears we could not afford their contracts

Since we have been told by Clegg that we will have to make cutbacks this summer

Since we will undoubtedly have even less money after a season of reduced gates and, most likely, reduced seaon ticket sales

I wouldn't mind betting that Arsenal will have insisted on a sell on clause, thereby reducing our cut of any profit on him.

I'd be happy to see JET go to Fulham...

...on a loan deal with a 24 hour call-back clause!

Obviously there is a price for every player but there is no way we should let him go for 3mil... too much prospect and the most exciting player I've seen at town of recent times, a crowd lifting talent. If an offer came in above 6 then obviously it would have to be considered, but anything less should be laughed at!!

The season's not even over and we're already getting the stupid speculative stories on here..hope someone's keeping count on how many player's are linked coming in/going out!..all interesting but usually complete nonsense.

Ipswichbusiness added 14:48 - Apr 19
JET is an asset and every asset has it's price; in the case of Wickham it was £8m. JET must be worth more given that he has had a full season for us. If they offered say £12m I would sell and look to reinvest.

I hate the tabloids, nonsense after nonsense and I'm never quite sure if it's journos making BS up to stay in a job or agents touting around to get their clients recognised.
Does anyone remember years ago when we were linked (in The Mirror funnily enough) with Gabriel Batistuta? We ended up with Adrian Paz! So hopefully this is more tabloid rubbish.
On the other side every player has a price (well not necessarily at Ipswich where you walk away when your contract expires) and if Fulham, or anyone to that matter were to offer in excess of £10m I think we should take it, as long as ALL of the transfer fee is reinvested.
