Rams Claimed to Be Winning Jacobs Chase
Rams Claimed to Be Winning Jacobs Chase
Friday, 11th May 2012 16:47

Derby County are reported to be the frontrunners for Northampton winger Michael Jacobs's signature. As TWTD reported on Monday, the 20-year-old is interesting the Blues, as well as the Rams, Peterborough, Watford, Bristol City and Charlton Athletic.

Jacobs, who impressed in the Cobblers’ 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Town in August, is out of contract in the summer but as he’s under 23 years of age, Northampton will be entitled to compensation.

many people talk highly of this guy! and like above, surely derby can't beat us to him?! no way! DERBY?!

If derby do sign him, doesn't mean they beat us to him. We are prob looking at loads of players with a profile like him. Gonna be a long close season for some if they get wound up every time we don't sign someone we are linked with!!

If Derby do sign him doesn't mean we've been 'beaten to him'. Just might mean we weren't that interested one the price doubled.. -_-

We've been LINKED with him, we havent confirmed that weve put in a bid or showed any interest.
People are so quick to judge RUMOURS, seriosuly. Its tiring, lets wait till we see something official (that we bid for someone)..

Wouldn't mind him but surely there are some other CRACKERS out there!!

So far we would have the following "linked" players:

Doyle, Kuscack, Henderson
Ward, Gunning, Keogh, Pearce
Jacobs, Murphy, Baldock

At least we are looking at the key areas, GK and defense. Plus these players are flexible.

Northampton to Derby, that isn't far really is it....we'll miss out due to location once more, not our fault but this is how it is starting to appear.

The problem is as soon as we're linked to a player (which could just be tabloid gossip anyway) and other clubs seem to be more likely to sign him, everybody moans, it could just be that we haven't actually bid for the player, however I do understand peoples frustrations and hope that we soon see some new arrivals.

some people just dont get it, this is what agents do, they create 'links' for their 'clients' to clubs, links then create 'demand' when something is in 'demand' its worth more...... player gets a bit more, their % is worth a bit more.....
its all hot air from agents and morons trying to sell papers..... one bunch of blood sucking morons feeding another group of the same ........

If, at what it seems, most championship clubs are looking at the same players, wouldn't it make sense to look further afield. As awful at it may seem look at the crisis in Greece and Portugal and take advantage by getting decent players for half the cost for English based players.

I know that there is the additional problem of adapting to a new country but thousands of EU workers adapt in the UK with ease.

Funny how people in the first few posts think Derby are worse than us,,,,,,,,,,,,,reality check needed, Derby & Ipswich are two average championship clubs, Derby with larger attendances in a central location in the country, hmmmm who would you pick?

Nothing shameful about being edged out by Derby in this one. Comparable size club (at first glance they have larger crowds than ITFC) probably offering a similar package. Much easier to get to Northampton from Derby (if he has family there) as well. Hopefully he'll reconsider and come to ITFC, becuase it sounds like he could be a real prospect.

How will we win any race if we've only got Major Clegg lining up for us?

Being linked to scores of players before signing someone who was off the radar isn't a new thing.

Jewell and Clegg will have discussed and identified some definate targets before going on holiday and it will all be in hand. No way they will make the same mistake as previous seasons. You wouldn't leave it to now to plan your transfers would you?

Don't know why all you lot on here are bothered who signs for town or not, its pretty clear that none of you actually go to Portman Road to watch the team play! maybe wait until the club actually confirm a signing officially then moan and whinge some more? enjoy the summer

Will need to get used to this - will be 'linked' to lots of players. Will also be beaten to players by other clubs - especially if Clegg is doing the deals!
