Chopra Off to California in Pre-Season
Chopra Off to California in Pre-Season
Tuesday, 15th May 2012 22:25

TWTD understands that Town striker Michael Chopra will spend three weeks of his pre-season preparations at a health farm in California. Blues boss Paul Jewell recently revealed that his squad have been given individual fitness plans for the summer and that some of them would be going on what he referred to as ‘holidays’.

Jewell also divulged that the 28-year-old, who spent time in the Sporting Chance Clinic late last year as he addressed his gambling problems, would be sent to what he called “a retreat” to get into shape for the campaign ahead.

Speaking prior to the end of the season, Jewell said a number of players would be given additional work, although we understand Chopra is the only one off to California: “There will be at least a couple of players who will be going away, shall we say, for holidays in inverted commas, but that’s only to improve their fitness and their mental strength.

“It’s not punishment, it’s to make them better players. I want them to embrace it. We’re doing it for their benefit because we’ve got some good players here and the fitter you are the better player you’re going to be.”

Meanwhile, skipper Carlos Edwards was carrying out some of his 200 hours of community service gardening at an Ipswich care home at the weekend.

The 32-year-old Trinidadian pleaded guilty to various driving offences in October.

Hope that Jimmy Bullard is not going to the same place and its no where near Las Vegas in Nevada. Hope he comes back all guns blazing for the next season.

Good luck Chops, and well done PJ. On his day one of the best strikers in the championship.

PS anybody know if there is any truth in the eadt link with sam baldock?

20+ goals next season, head in a better place, can hopefully be a benefit to Chops & Town.

Well done the club. Nobody will know if it will work until he returns, til then, let's give the club, manager and Chops the break they deserve.
And once again, prospective new players who will undoubtedly read this site to gauge what the fans are like, could possibly be given the wrong idea reading some of these comments. The negatives will be the first to post that the management couldn't do a deal, when its possible that a good player may be put off by their comments. Think about it.

A big thumbs-up for the bosses' decision (presumably M.E.'s at the end of the day) on this one. This sounds like concerned management making a move that is best for all concerned if it works out. [We could almost be in Sweden!] Chopra is a lucky lad. I hope he takes advantage of it, and I wish him all the best.

Positive stuff investing in our own players welfare. As to Baldock - similar player to Chops so good competition but will need us to platypus football not hoofball. Well done the Management.

Great decision and fingers crossed it pays off! Would love to see Chops start the season on fire! Who are the others going away? Bullard has to be one but the article says 'a couple'!

Overcoming any addiction is a lengthy process. Fair play to the club and PJ for thinking outside the box and treating players as the individuals that they are.

With regards to the gambling comments, online gambling in the USA is illegal and I am pretty sure they won't have a casino at the health retreat!

So Ipswich supporters are so quick to jump at every story with a comment that offers no reasoning. Sort it out. COYB

Lighten up people. There is no harm in the odd quip here and there. Some of you like Sindre seem to applaud every potential signing and every bit of club news when actually the club has gone through a period of a good few gaffs and understandably some are going to poke fun.

Football and life is all about differing opinions, healthy debate is good, we wont all agree about everything but to be negative, sarcastic and pathetic with some of your comments is out of order and your are clearly "NOT" town supporters.
True supporters want the best for the team, Chops is a footballer, our footballer and a human being, who quite frankly needs some help to get back on track. PJ and the club are to be applauded on this one.
So all you numpties take a look at yourselves, Sindre and the rest of the true supporters get a big well done....For being real supporters ....coyb

So Dissboy, because i dont share your opinion im not a 'real supporter' ??
Explain...
I spent much time and money travelling the country this (and many previous) season, supporting my team and the manager, even though my opinion is that PJ is NOT the man to take this club forward.
To be called a numpty because i dont agree with you or that all my views are not 'in your opinion' positive is slightly arrogant on your part.
Chops problems were very well documented before joining our club. Maybe, just maybe the decision to sign him was the wrong one? But hey what do i know, im clearly not in your league when it comes to giving support.
Grow up and read that first sentence of yours.

Should hopefully help him, as we need him next season. I think he can get 20 goals next season... and help us win promotion

Hopefully will benefit Chops and the club, here's hoping PJ can get Bullard back and raring to go. Would be like signing a new player if he played to his potential.
Nice to see some positive comments on here as well (as well as the usual Trolls)

There are easier ways to gamble than going to Vegas, which by the way, is hundreds of miles from points of California.

14 goals 1 million not too bad for a dogey season. Iam slightly optomistic 4 new season. chops, creswell, jet, smith, hyam, carson and lee martin all likley to improve on larst seasons whole showing. Also if we can get decent goalkeeeper and centre half thats 9 positions where we could improve . carlos dury should do ok and even the x messiah might return have a few good games.

I think this is just another plank in Paul Jewell's excellent management ability. Individual training programmes are not an easy, nor a cheap, option but an excellent way of paving the way for an important next season. Well done PJ. Sindre, in answer to your question as to why some people write what they do, it is because they have a keyboard, can string two or three words of one syllable together but no brain to match that ability, just ignore them. Tenerifekeith. While I agree with the basis of your comment I take very strong exception to your ageist remark. I am far, far older than 70 but am neither stupid nor unintelligent so please think about what you are going to say before you write it. COYB

I think this is a good idea, it benefits the rest of the staff to focus on other important things like getting the right players in etc, i see no issue with this to be honest.

I do find it highly annoying that so called supporters are so negative straight away, have some of you negative posters not stopped to consider that maybe the reason that this club can be a dissapointment and sometimes a shambles is because so called fans such as yourself contribute to the negative atmosphere surrounding the club.

Im all for opinions and stuff but some posts are just not thought about or even constructive.

BossMan:
I dont applaud everything we do. Players like baldock on loan and potential permanent signings like green and anthony gerrard dont excite. Thing is i dont bother commenting on negative news , i just dont, thats it.
Im not positive about everything but i try to look after some light at the end of the tunnell, cause there are SO MANY demotivating and tiring folks here

if he gets 20 plus goals next year money well spent. this looks like good man management. I like that the fitness programmes have been individually tailored.

Wish there was a way of losing all these poieonous posters. Fine if ITFC lose and play badly come on and comment, but it is clear here that they are trying there best to support OUR player! If you have nothing constructive or remotly helpful to say then keep quiet! Don't understand why people are so negative!
