Edwards to Remain Skipper
Edwards to Remain Skipper

Town manager Paul Jewell says he has no plans to replace Carlos Edwards as captain. The signing of former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers had led to speculation that the 26-year-old might be handed the armband.

But Jewell told the club site: "I don't see any reason to change who wears the armband. Carlos did brilliantly for us last year as skipper and the role seemed to add to his game.

"You don't have to wear the armband to be a leader and that's what we want Luke to be, a leader. Like everyone else, we want him to lead by example on the pitch.

"It's not really about who has the armband. It's about what you do out on the pitch and in and around the club during the week. That's what makes a leader."

Yo Brockley,

I'm more than happy having Carlos as a captain I just think he is a little tricky to understand in his Caribbean accent especially when barking the orders.

Means he will still be playing first team football and in that right back spot which should really be replaced in that position, he's done ok as captain but could be a weak area that teams will exploit.

Edwards has played well for us but for me not a Captain who can inspire, elevate and discipline the team when needed.
However it seems the right decision at this point until we find good alternatives which will surely involve Smith and Chambers sooner rather than later.
Would still like amongst others a midfield general and possible future captain as a summer signing.

good decision...new player should never be captain, and no other player (apart from cresswell) is certain to play at the start of the season!

Why do people keep mentioning sonko?! he didnt sign a new contract

Jewell has already stated he doesnt believe it matters who has the armband, he doesnt believe captaincy is that important..

typical garbage

matt holland and de vos (to a lesser degree) are the most recent in a line of inspirational leaders in our history and showed the importance of a good skipper..look at Kompany et al in the prem...and then tell me the captaincy "isnt important"

knob!

Little tip "knob" Chripswich, if you want to appropriate someone's point of view into different words to which they actually used then use single quote marks. For example: 'captains are important' would appropriate your comments. However, as a journo in training, I can tell you that the above example would be misappropriation of PJ as he never said it wasn't important or implied it. Get your facts right before calling anyone a knob. knob.

Ludicrous to even suggest Chambers as captain - cracked his game up completely at Forest. Edwards it has to be - no question.
