Bullard Fit and Not in Clink
Bullard Fit and Not in Clink

Blues boss Paul Jewell says midfielder Jimmy Bullard returned to the club in good shape after the summer — despite claims that he was in a foreign prison cell.

Jewell said: “Every player was given an individual programme for the summer and one thing Jimmy doesn’t lack is fitness.

“Simon Clegg took a phonecall [from a national newspaper a couple of weeks ago] to say he’d been arrested in Marbella.

"He rang Jimmy straight away and Jimmy was fishing. You can’t have phones [in jail]!

"There’s always a story with Jimmy, but he’s in good condition.”

Haha, good story that one! Bet Clegg's heart sank when he took that call.

Bullard could be a massive player this season.

Jimmy to be player of the season (if he stays fit, big if)

Great character, great ability, but now it's time to repay the faith Jimmy lad.

Stick to fishing in your spare time Jimmy lad and do your talking on the pitch (rather than the night clubs of Newcastle)

Really hope we can crack this league :-)

I agree IrishTim, Mr Bullard owes us big-time this season. Being great in the dressing room isn't enough. He has to do the business on the park. We all know he is capable. (Amazingly popular with the punters - inc me - even though he hardly did a thing last season!)

Anybody get the feeling that Jimmy will fall by the wayside much like Gazza has and won't be able to handle the 'being adored' scenario. Mind you people can understand what Jimmy is saying so I would imagine he will become some sort of pundit if he wanted to. Hell I have just talked myself out of my own point. Boooo.

Lock him up and throw away the key.

Would love to see the Jimmy we all thought we had bought, with him firing on all cylinders I think we would have a real chance this season. That said we can't say the Hull fans didn't warn us.

I must admit, I don't have great hopes for Jimmy next season. Please prove me wrong.

Meh. Can't blame the papers, easy mistake to make - after all, Jimmy does have the same initials as Joey Barton...(!)

Bullard is pretty much written off in many fans' eyes, so it would be a big bonus if he could come into the side and do well this season. He has the ability and experience and could florish with the younger players around him this season, but will he take the opportunity? Over to you Jimmy!

It could have been an open prison with a fishing lake!

JB has the ability to turn a game. All too often last season he was only given a few minutes at the end of a game to try and do that. Even when he hasn't got the ball he can still pull the oposition round the park to create space for others. A bit like his fishing I'm just waiting to see him put a few in the net.

Think he assisted Sonko's goal at home to Brighton. Only a corner though.

Scored an unbelievable goal at Millwall as well.

In addition to not playing many full matches, a large problem with JB last year was that when he did play 90 minutes it was often in a holding role (ie at the base of the diamond in the early matches) which isn't where he can use his talents to the fullest.

Sounds fishy to me.

Expecting great things from you this season Jimmy!

Jimmy Bullard doesn't owe us anything.. He is an extremely talented player with a good few years left in him at top level.

He owes it to himself.

Jimmy got two assists and 1 goal in 12 starts played in the holding role of midfield to accomadate Andrews , of those 12 starts we won 5 and drew 2 so maybe not the loss everyone would like to make out ? Perhaps played in the team that was on a high at the end of the season would again have seen more from Jimmy that i am expecting to see this season

Yes it is a big IF, but Jimmy Bullard could make a big impact this season - on his day he is a quality player.

It would be good if Jimmy would reflect on why this story about the foreign gaol was made up about him. It would be good, but I suspect that the only time Jimmy reflects on anything is when he stands in front of a mirror.

is it just me who finds the concept of Jimmy the clown Bullard going fishing amusing or not?

Really hope he gives us a good one this season; he was fantastic for us on loan but was a let down last season; bring the old bullard back! COYB!

This idea that Jimmy was completely useless last season is a bit of a myth.
