Lawrence in Squad for Holland Tour
Lawrence in Squad for Holland Tour
Saturday, 14th Jul 2012 09:53

Town boss Paul Jewell has included academy first-year scholar Byron Lawrence in the squad for this week’s two-game tour of Holland. However, there is no place for either Nathan Ellington or Jaime Peters in the party which travels tomorrow.

Lawrence’s inclusion seemed likely after he was left out of the U18s squad for today’s friendly at Kirkley and Pakefield. The 16-year-old made his first-team debut as a sub at Doncaster on the final day of last season.

At the end of last campaign, Blues boss Paul Jewell said Ellington and Peters could move on over the summer if clubs wanted them and talks regarding their futures are believed to have taken place with their agents. Both have a year remaining on their contracts.

New signing Elliott Hewitt travels despite being out of action until the September at the earliest having undergone hip surgery while with Macclesfield, although he is now doing some light running.

Town’s other new addition, central defender Luke Chambers, will make his first appearances in a blue shirt at Helmond Sport on Tuesday and Den Bosch on Thursday (both 7pm local time).

Tommy Smith, who has been suffering with a minor hamstring injury, is absent as he's due to meet up with the New Zealand Olympic squad.

Also missing is prospective new signing Cheick Kourouma who can't officially join the Blues until agreements are in place with his former clubs Sochaux, Real Zaragoza and Genoa regarding training and development compensation which could potentially be due as the midfielder is under 23 years of age.

The Italian club are the hold-up with the English and Italian FAs involved and the player himself having contacted his old club in order to get the paperwork sorted so he can put pen to paper.

Jewell is also taking a look at a couple of trialists while the squad is at their five-day training camp near Eindhoven.

Squad: Ainsley, Bullard, Carson, Chambers, Chopra, Cresswell, Delaney, Drury, Edwards, Emmanuel-Thomas, Hewitt, Hyam, Lawrence, Lee-Barrett, Martin, Murray, Scotland, Stevenson, Whight.

Looking at that team list, we've actually got a really decent squad. Will be nice to see Stevenson get some more time next season as well - think he will be key for us in the future.

Phil - do you know whether the Holland games will have commentary on the radio or be available on the telly anywhere?

It's a shame for Jamie Peters. Clearly a popular player with fans, but not rated by PJ. Sadly this simply happens in football - particularly when a new manager comes in. Hopefully Jamie will find a new club.

As for Ellington - a truely awful signing. Let's hope he moves on.

Our squad still looks pretty weak. Whatever your view on Leadbitter, Bowyer and Murphy - they were three REGULAR starters for us last season - none are still at the club, nor have they been replaced. CB and GK also looks weak, whilst we have few options up front.

I thought PJ said he hoped to have two more players in before this trip? As it stands only ONE fit new signing going to Holland. Much for PJ still to do.

whatever has jaime peters done wrong? If the other player's gave as much effort and commitment, we would have a very loyal squad.

Peters probably fell out with Jewell by telling him he couldn't understand a word the thick scouser was saying : I know that I can't.

Dont like the way that Peters is being treated. Fair enough that Jewell doesnt rate him, but show him some respect.

Yeah shame about Peters, looked really promising 3/4 years ago - Ellington as mentioned is a total waste of space (Watford didn't want him so what does that say?) - but well done to Byron nice to see he is in the squad.

We all like Peters coz he gives his all, But no Manager ITFC has ever made him first choice. Good Luck Jamie your a decent pro! Down a level or 2 may restart your football career.

I hope we sign players soon! I think Jewell is serious trying to sign premiership level players. Spurs have a lot of goalkeepers!!! another centre back plus a 25goal centre forward needed. we got most of our points last season with the midfielders left in this squad so not to worried about midfield.

C-mon ITFC

I want peters to come live in my house. I speak a little Canadian and he is one.

How stupid can people be on here, Jamie peters has been the worst player to have ever put an ipswich town top on. He can not control a ball defend pass shoot cross or beat a player. Bar this ya jamie peters is a top player.

We wonder why we are a low table team in the championship over the last 3 to 4 years with players of this standard in the squard.

Nice to see academy players coming through. Shame about Peeters as popular with fans. Wonder who the trial players are. Anyone?

Gutted for Peters and its a real shame for him, he does give 100% always played in several positions as well hoping he finds a club.

Simply put jamie peters is not good enough. I like him & respect his efforts, but if we work on sentiment we are going nowhere. We need better players end of story. Thanks Jamie & best of luck. Lets not forget that whenever he was out on loan he did nothing to help force his way back to 1st team at portman road.

If you can't understand what PJ says then that probably says a lot about your tiny little insular world. Get out and about, visit places with different accents, smile a bit and you probably won't be the miserable tiny little man which you come across as. I bet if you ask your mum or girlfriend (probably the same) she'll make you sandwiches and maybe even pack your suitcase.

Don't think Peters has been given a decent run in the squad like Leadboots. But I don't actually think that he is that good. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in the MSL.
