Jewell Confident on Target Friday, 17th Aug 2012 06:00 Town manager Paul Jewell is confident that he’ll land his latest transfer target having revealed that he made a bid for a player yesterday morning. The Blues boss has previously admitted he has had a difficult close season in which he has missed out on several targets for a variety of reasons. Jewell said: “I am confident. I’m trying not to kid myself as we’ve had so many knockbacks this summer. I think the season should start after the window closes because it becomes a bit of a nonsense. “The season starts tomorrow and two weeks later the window closes. We’re all at the mercy of Premier League clubs because if they haven’t got a replacement for a player, they keep the player there [until the end of the window]. It’s a nightmare really.” The Blues boss says former Town man Connor Wickham isn’t currently in his thoughts regarding a return on loan, despite Sunderland adding to their striking options by signing Louis Saha yesterday: “I would never close the door on anything, but we’ve got other targets.” Meanwhile, former Town loanee Daryl Murphy, a player Jewell has said he'd like to see return to Portman Road if a deal could be done with Celtic, is out of action for a month with a hamstring injury.
