Town are being linked with a move for Peterborough pair George Boyd and Paul Taylor ahead of the final day of the transfer window on Friday.

The Blues were mentioned in connection with the duo at the end of last season when Paul Jewell played down the likelihood of Town having any serious interest, expecting them to be beyond the club’s means with Premier League sides probably in the hunt: “If good players come up and are available and we can afford them, we want to be in the market for them, but there will be a lot of suitors for the lad Taylor.

“To be fair to George Boyd, he has played on the left, but this season he’s mainly played in the middle of midfield. We’re in that type of market, but he’d probably be out of our price range, to be honest.”

Striker Taylor and midfielder Boyd, who Jewell initially watched within days of taking over at Portman Road, are both out of contract at the end of this season with Posh having said they will look to sell them now rather than risk losing them for nothing in a year’s time.

The Blues are reportedly ready to splash £1.5 million on the duo with Taylor having previously been linked with Leeds but with Whites manager Neil Warnock having said he has no money to spend before Friday’s deadline.

bluearmy4life added 19:31 - Aug 28 I don't care how we get them, how much we have to pay, just sign them up. Rate Taylor and Boyd highly. They destroyed us in the 7-1 thrashing. With these two additions and Murphy we would have a decent side that could certainly have a decent season. Marcus Evans, Clegg, and Jewell make this happen other wise I think there could be problems further down the line.

Both are at a good age (relatively young) and both have undoubted quality at this level, particularly Boyd. What I don't get is the constant ranting from a number of you guys (not the majority it has to be said) Everyone wanted us to field a young side: we have Everyone wants us to play football on the ground: we are Everyone wants us to sign decent players at a good age: we are (and continuing to try) So why still the moaning? Some just like a rant regardless me thinks :)

Taylor would need to play when Chopra does not as dont see them playing together - Murphy must play upfront, won't score more than 10 per season but will add much needed steel and height. Boyd would be my choice if we had to buy one of them. Of an age where needs to leave Posh to continue his career - could possibly do a job in centre mid? Still need a big strong Centre back and team coming together

mrmorisato added 00:42 - Aug 29 Please just get these 2 to sign it fills me with hope knowing evans is personally involved in negotiations, on the whole i cant remember a town manager having this amount of setbacks in the transfer market. PJ has been working his socks off to get players in so town fans should give him the benefit of the doubt at this moment. listened to the whole Carlisle game and we should have been 3-0 up at the break and then only a minute from winning, if we havent signed anyone by saturday then fail to beat huddersfield then i will start to worry for PJ's sake.
