Rangers Defender Linked
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 09:41

Town are in talks with ex-Rangers central defender Kirk Broadfoot, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. The 28-year-old’s Ibrox contract was cancelled yesterday.

Broadfoot, who is 6ft 3in tall, was a youth player at Hibernian but started his senior career with St Mirren where he made more than 150 appearances in five years before moving on to Rangers on a Bosman free transfer in the summer of 2007.

Capped four times at full level by Scotland, scoring once, in addition to appearances at U21 and B levels, Irvine-born Broadfoot made 106 starts and 12 sub appearances for Rangers, scoring once during his five years with the Glasgow club.

While mainly playing at centre-half, Broadfoot, who won three Scottish titles and a League Cup while at Ibrox, has also operated at full-back.

Announcing Broadfoot’s departure yesterday, Rangers manager Ally McCoist said: "We would just like to take the opportunity to thank him very much for his services.

"Kirk has agreed with [chief executive] Charles [Green] and the club that his contract will be made null and void and he will be free to leave the club from today or tomorrow."

Another central defender is very much on Paul Jewell’s wish list ahead of Friday’s 11pm deadline.

As he's no longer contracted to Rangers, surely he's not affected by the window and can sign to another club at any time

Another stevenson ? Played 100 games in 5 seasons so not a e real regular. Stevenson was one of hearts top players but nowhere near good enough for the championship. One day to go and we need LM CB x2 and big striker. or are we going to be relegated. Im really losing interest in ITFC , we are going nowhere except backwards

STOP PRESS...... I've just heard (from a reliable source) that we've agreed a fee with Aldershot for their Tea-lady!!, shes due at PR this afternoon for a medical!!! & to talk terms, Clegg says: "I know fans are a bit down after missing out on the Posh pair, but I'm confident we can seal this deal, shes quite a character in the dressing room!" & can play the field a bit too" having spoken to her agent, he added, "I know she's looking for a quality trolley & a new set of tea cups, we'll keep fans informed"

Does anyone out there think that there is anyone at the club who has a clue.
At this rate it looks as if at least 85% of the respondents in the poll on this page were/are seriously deluded.

Question for someone to ask at a press conference very soon. What is the vision/Five Year Plan for the club? Does it involve even staying the Championship? It clearly can't have promotion to the Premier League anywhere in it!

ive never rated jewell as a manager, and has for his signings most have been sh#t, as for ME and CLEGG they are ruining this club, the only players we are gonna be able to sign will be from non league, and it pains me to say this, but i think we will be fighting to stay up this season

We all moan about PJ but personally I think he won't get sacked...................... if he's got any self respect left he will clear his desk and leave with dignity. He must be sooooooo frustrated, who is running the team here?, it looks like we need to buy players from the conference to match the wages, and you know what that means conference players equals CONFERENCE FOOTBALL!!! :-( RIP the blues

Would be a much needed signing if it ever happens.

Whenever Jewell has been given money to spend on fees he's bought pretty well, see Chopra, Drury, Cresswell (tribunal), JET, Loach, Hewitt.

Taylor and Boyd would, and I'm completely confident about saying this, have been fantastic signings. And as we know this is not the first its happened is it?

Jewell must be pretty pissed off, and I don't blame him one bit.

Suffolk n Good

The deals gone belly up. A source close to the club has informed me that they couldn't agree on the size of the sugar tongs!

Plus there was an argument whether it was going to be Typhoo or PG Tips

Yes it's hugely disappointing that we've yet again failed to secure the simplest of signings, but let's not start talking about relegation on the grounds that we're yet to sign new players. Yes we ideally need a big CB and goal scorer, but so far I don't think we've played half badly (Blackpool was a freak result). I'm still relatively optimistic and am certainly not going to be dramatic and suggest relegation this season. We play some of the best football in the Champ on our day, we just need a solid defence which I'm sure will be sorted by 11pm tomorrow. Have faith and appreciate that we're not a bad side.

No thank you on this one as hardly a regular in the Mickey Mouse League in Scotland. Things obviously getting desperate now but most of us thought Smith would be OK this season - how wrong we were just hope he can regain his confidence and bounce back but fear he is just not good enough.

I think this would be a decent signing. SPL may be a poor league but (the old) Rangers and Celtic would comfortably win the Championship, in my opinion, so him not being a regular in their side shouldn't be too discouraging.

A decent championship player, versatile, can be a RB, won't cost much.....NO CHANCE

Honestly, as a long time Rangers and Ipswich fan, this man is an utterly horrible football player, just has trouble kicking a ball sometimes, worse than edwards at defending and nowhere as good attacking. Plays at fullback and barely ever at cb, and thank goodness he doesn't, Clegg out if he comes here.
