Town Confirm Delaney Exit
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 15:02

Town have confirmed that central defender Damien Delaney has left the Blues by mutual consent, as revealed by TWTD earlier this afternoon. The 31-year-old is now able to find another club either before Friday's deadline or as a free agent once it has closed.

Delaney told the club site: "I have enjoyed my time at Ipswich but it seems the right time to move on.

“I have been here three and a half years now and am probably the longest serving player at the club, but not being in the side made me think about my future and like I said, it’s time for a change. I’d like to wish the club the best of luck for the future.”

Blues manager Paul Jewell added: “Damien has been a good servant to the football club and we thank him for that and wish him every success.”

Clearly we can't organize selling players either? Surely this is more expensive than a free transfer, as we would have to pay off some of the contract?

My dream of finally playing for the Blues may come true.... ok, i prefer to play up front on left wing, but will take it as it comes.

On a serious note, lets hope PJ has some signings confirmed else we are barely going to have enough players to take to the field.

Let's face it, if we can't attract 2 Posh "refugees" we're going to struggle to get quality players in by the deadline. But there's also no point in holding onto Stevenson & Delaney if they're just making up the numbers. What's the solution? - dunno I'm afraid

They're talking about St Ledger being a loan, which I guess gets around some of those pesky personal terms

Extra wages that we could use to secure the Posh duo.... I know we shouldn't push the boat out wage wise but to be honest I've had enough and I want these two. Boyd, Taylor, N'Daw, Murphy, St Ledger. Now that would be a successful window for our standards. Not expecting anything though

This is the most insane transfer window of all time. PJ complaining that the squad is threadbare, and 3 senior (ish) players in Delaney, Bullard & Stevenson leave for zilcho. PJ surely must have something up his sleeve, other than his arm. How come too, that other clubs manage to sell their players, yet we have to terminate up their contracts? How come Marcus Evans is so rich? Probably because he doesn't have PJ and SC managing any other bits of his empire.

There better be some players - the paper of which how thin the squad now is, is rapdily becoming thinner and thinner.

ME must be doing his nut. All the players that have been bought over the last couple of years has had no resale value! Besides Connor Wickham, i cant remember the last time we have sold and got money for someone!?

This is the 1st time in a long long while that i'm actually concerned about the squad we have. Before, kind of thought we have a pretty decent sized squad which has the quality to not get in any real danger of being relegated, but wont get us promoted. Now i cant see who will play in defense on Saturday! Either Jewell is supremely confident in signing the players he wants, or quite frankly a fool!
Draft in the tea lady and the secretary just in case.

This gets better and better. Keep offloading players still in contract, obviously we have to give them some sort of pay off rather than they just walk away, then fail in any attempt to re recruit, then moan that our squad is too thin, this is not a vicious circle, more like a vicious spiral, spiralling down very quickly!

Personally id like to say thnx and wish him all the best.Had a dopey centre half element to his game but could also be a titan. The kind of ex-player that will hav a colossal game against us.

To all those of you who cautioned those of us who expressed concerns about lack of signings prior to pre-season training to wait until the start of the season or even the end of the transfer window, can we start to panic now please.

If DD can't get a another club, he'll never be out of pocket, because he has sole rights to Pin the Tail on the Donkey and a regular role in the Nativity!!

Whilst I wish him all the best in his future endeavours, I think Delaney was a real liability at the back and probably cost us a few wins with his all too common gaffs. A good bit of business to let him go. Whoever he signs for, if its still in The Championship, I'll be confident of a win against them.

Now, can we please get our house in order and get two decent CBs please?

Regarding the ongoing transfer window saga(s), if we're only able to pay peanuts, we'll end up with a team of monkeys, or no team at all.

Ian't there a well known saying, "Speculate to accumulate"?

Here's a thought... perhaps, after seeing what happened to the budgies and Southampton, having gone down to Division 1 and then bouncing back with a vengeance all the way to the Prem, it is a very cunning plan by M E, S C & P J to secure Premiership football in two or three years time by decimating the squad, making meaningless bids for players then offering next to no wages, scuppering the deal and also, losing to teams in lower divisions to demoralise whats left of the squad so we can drop down, only to bounce back better and stronger than we have been for years!

Thoughts?
