| Thorsteinsson on Target Friday, 7th Sep 2012 20:08

Academy second-year scholar Gunnar Thorsteinsson was on target as Iceland’s U19s beat Estonia 4-0 in a home friendly this afternoon. Thorsteinsson, a midfielder or centre-half, netted his country’s third goal. The 18-year-old and his team-mates play another friendly against the same opposition on Sunday afternoon, also on home territory. Elsewhere, Josh Carson was an unused sub as Northern Ireland lost 2-0 in Russia in their first World Cup qualifier. The Northern Irish next take on Luxembourg at Windsor Park in Belfast on Tuesday.

I've been keeping an eye on this lad's progress since the end of last season, and from what I've read, I'm quite impressed. Can't be far from a debut, I would imagine. Let's not forget, he's already played professionally in Iceland! | | | |
