Jewell: Duo Add Quality and Experience Friday, 5th Oct 2012 14:13 Blues boss Paul Jewell says new loan signings Richie Wellens and DJ Campbell will add quality and experience to his squad. The pair look set to make their Town debuts when Cardiff visit Portman Road for tomorrow’s live Sky game (KO 5.20pm).
Jewell told the club site: “We are in a tough situation at the moment and the two lads that have come in are experienced players — and very decent players and that is what we need at the moment. They are hungry to play football and that’s the key as well.
“Richie is back from injury now and has played the vast majority of games for Leicester over the last two or three years.
“He is a terrific passer of the ball and we actually tried to get him here on a permanent deal in the summer but couldn’t make it work.
“He’s here for six games and I know Leicester don’t want to let him go. They weren’t that keen on him going on loan to another Championship club but we’re pleased to have sorted something out and he will be a big asset to the squad.”
The Blues fought off competition from Blackpool to land Campbell and Jewell has revealed that Seasiders’ manager Ian Holloway called him yesterday: “DJ will provide quality as well. He was all set to go to Blackpool a week back but that didn’t happen and we’ve managed to bring him here for three months.
“Ollie rang me last night. He thinks the world of him and told me that we have a really good player and a great lad.
“He will give us that spark that perhaps we need to finish off the chances that we have been creating.”
Jewell isn’t ruling out the duo signing permanently at this stage: “As I said, Leicester don’t want Richie to go but you never know what can happen in football.
“With DJ, he’s played Premier League football and he is hungry to do well. He wants to play first-team football, so it’s not out of the question. We will see how things develop.”

Here , here irishtim to many people moaning about loan players but they Do'nt seem to realise that our permanent players are'nt doing what is needed so why not look to loans to help push us up the table to where we all want to be.COYB

With the squad we have, I can guarantee you all that we will not go down. I've never said we'd go down but have called for Jewells head at times. These are good signings Jewell has made, let's just hope they can produce now. 3-1 win tomorrow!

Could well be PJ's last throw of the dice job wise, but I have a good feeling about tomorrow now. DJ to score on his debut

If we had assembled this squad one week before the season started I would have been happy man. All of a sudden we are landing 100% of our targets and the world looks a better place. If the boys place as well as they did in the first half against Brighton then Cardiff will be in for a tough game.

So all those moaning these looked like panic signings are again just that, moaning. All 3 longer term targets and while the wait is frustrating it shows we won't be held to ransom over wages/fees.

I work with a Leicester fan who says that he really likes Wellens and they always played better with him in the side that without him. He feels that Wellens would still be a first choice for them now if he hadn't got injured last season

first of all i would like to say welcome to all new signings. Now i am not known for my moaning and i am not known for my over the top praise, like to keep what is in my opinion a balanced argument. If something permanent becomes of the successful loanees, then happen days. But what happens if they go elsewhere or go back to fulfill contracts at their parent clubs when these loan period expire? doesnt bare thinking about, the obvious outcome is deja vu. Our main problem is and has been for some while, the lack of a spine, take last season we had Stockdale in goal Collins in defence Andrews in Midfield, all loanees who left and went elsewhere or went back to their clubs. The backbone of the team must be made up of ipswich town employees not Loanees if improvement is to be permanent. I can see us going on a bit of a run putting a few results together then the wheels will come off again. So how many loanees is that now? 6 or 7 ? far too many, one or two to help us out or maybe with a view to a permanent move is ok. supposing all the loanees turn out to be a success and then leave where does it leave us? very thin on the ground, thats where and come may a less that satisfactory bottom half finish. If i am to experience a bottom half finish again with ipswich i would rather do it with our own players as opposed to the roller coaster which can be the life of an itfc fan. i really cant keep up with all these false dawns, we need to see improvement that is going to be permanent..... Now coming back to the present, a win tomorrow and the scummers losing to chelsea and temporarily i will forget the above Rant, but deep down it will remain because in my heart i know all the success ipswich has ever achieved has been due to settled squads and a certain degree of continuity..Coyb

Three really good loan signings and although i'm no fan of short term fixes right now i just want us to get away from the relegation zone. Welcome to ITFC lads and i'll now have to change my prediction to a home win. COYB.

Dissboy - correct!, even if the new players do 'gel' and I think it might take time I can't help thinking these are panic loans, I was hoping for these loans/transfers to be sealed at the beginning of the season not in October - now Jewell can start fiddling with not only the midfield he can with the attack and defense which does not fill me with great confidence.

Infact perfect post Dissboy! - Been saying this about a settled squad that regularly plays together since the end of last season, and what have we? just the opposite!

Let's face it, we are not in a good place currently. I don't like the fact that we have so many loan players and worry about what we are going to do in January when all the recent loanees have gone, but if we can move forward from here and get ourselves moving up the table I for one will applaud PJ. We need to have something to be cheerful about and though these signings may be seen as the last desperate act of a desperate man I will be keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out.

Blue0141273... all true fans want to see us win and move forward and yes i will cheer a victory as loud as the next fan, it just appears as though we are papering over cracks, we need to see permanence and stability if this club is to move forward. i was having some trips down memory lane reminiscing about the good ol days with the scummers at work they spoke of goss,s goal and the only team to win at bayern munich i replied with our first division title the Fa cup and the eufa cup and us being the last club to win at the old wembley in a competitive match, was feeling smug at this point but left with my tail between my legs seconds later, they reminded me we are the second tiers longest serving club, a statistic that surely we will hold on to as well without permanent improvement being evident, surely? i want to see us compete with a team that is ours and not disappearing with the xmas decorations....we were promised that lessons had been learnt and that the loanees would be kept to a minimum. I am stating my disappointment in the fact we still trying to build a team full of loanees......coyb
