Jewell: Henderson Signing Will Add Competition
Tuesday, 16th Oct 2012 15:09

Town boss Paul Jewell says eighth loan signing Stephen Henderson will compete with Scott Loach and Arran Lee-Barrett for a place in his side. Henderson (pictured with chief executive Simon Clegg and fellow new addition Nigel Reo-Coker) has joined the Blues on a three-month loan from West Ham.

Jewell told the club site: “We’re delighted to have Stephen here and he will add to the competition we have in the goalkeeping areas.”

“Scott’s confidence has taken a little knock just lately — that happens to every player at some stage. He’ll get through it and be better for it, but bringing Stephen in gives us other options, along with Arran as well.

“It’s been well documented that we tried to bring Stephen to the club last season but Portsmouth did not accept our offer.

“We weren’t the only club after him and obviously he’s a West Ham player now and playing at a Premier League club.

“He’s been on the bench for them this season but when the opportunity came up to bring him here on loan, it’s one we wanted to take because he’s a very good goalkeeper and can only benefit the squad.”

Henderson, who is subject to a 24-hoour recall clause throughout his 93-day spell rather than just the usual first month, says he’s looking forward to playing some football while at Portman Road having made only two Capital One Cup appearances since his move to Upton Park in March: “I’ve not played much football this season so when I was told I could go out on loan, my agent contacted Ipswich and once I knew they wanted me, that was it.

“I’ve played here a few times. It’s a fantastic football club and I’m really looking forward to the three months here and showing what I can do.”

New signings Henderson and Nigel Reo-Coker, who signed a three-month short-term deal on Saturday, have been handed respectively the number 13 and 23 shirts.

"Scott's confidence has taken a little knock" yeah because bringing another keeper as a possible replacement is really going to boost it isnt it!

“I've not played much football this season so when I was told I could go out on loan, my agent contacted Ipswich and once I knew they wanted me, that was it.

I'm guessing that this means he was promised first-team football otherwise he wouldn't of come here. Which means that our keeper(s) be on the bench with their confidence ebbing away.

I'm not one for moaning normally but this deal really does baffle me? Loach was at fault against cardiff but what about the point he earned us against huddesfield? I dont know which of the loan signings will miss out for the next game? Any ideas?

Comment from both certainly suggest he's been brought in to start. This would have been fine in August, but now it just looks like PJ doesn't have the balls to back his own signings through tough periods. Whatever you think of Loach, PJ brought him in and PJ should stick by him. How on EARTH is brining someone else in going to boost Loach's confidence?

WHEN will we stop signing someone else every time we get a bad result?!

I cannot stand this signing in the slightest, between Loach and Lee-Barratt there is enough competition for a place in the team. Loach should not be dropped for one bad performance and I hardly see how this signing is needed.

Cobblers Jewell...

You have no idea how to run a football club...I think most fans could do a better job.

What happens when the 8 loans are up?...get another 8?

Total Madness!

Do none of you guys umderstand the game ?. It's been obvious from the start that the defence have little confidence in the keeper . What should we do - continue to leak goals or address the issue ?

Delighted about reo-coker top player the only downside to this is that we have enough cm's as it is, as for henderson pretty pointless to be honest we have a decent keeper in loach and decent back up in ALB henderson is going to expect to start surely coming from a premier league club but in my opinion he has to work his way into the starting XI just like hyam had to and i agree with Barbs_itfc this is only going to knock loach's confidence down not improve it! Jewellio is losing the plot!

No wonder we're getting poor results & playing without confidence. After every game PJ whinges about 'we need more quality' etc.... that in itself sends out the wrong message to the players. Then he brings in loan players for a so called fix..... BAD MANAGEMENT. CAN'T GET THE BEST OUT OF HIS PLAYERS.
We need a manager that CAN get the best out of these players ! I'm sure they're not as bad as PJ makes out !

i tell you what.. this is going to be one hell of a turn round.all these players arriving and replacing players with contracts with guys that may or may not stay.the way the transfer market is right now beggers belief!what the hell is going on. sunday league transfers are run better than this load of bull.we dont know our best eleven and we are now a good portion into the season.players need to be at their club of chioce at the start of the season.the plain and simple truth is that clubs like town are being milked and used as stepping stones by these fly by nights who are just after a few more zero's on their paychecks.if they hadn't buggered about so much and being so damn picky they most probrably be playing now....!it really, really needs to be changed.

I feel Henderson is the better goalkeeper ! I was never happy Loach not having competition for the No1 spot, so this time I can't and won't moan this loan signing it was badly needed. I have to say Mr Jewell got it right this time.

“It's been well documented that we tried to bring Stephen to the club last season but Portsmouth did not accept our offer." well it was well documented that they had accepted our offer for him and ward, and that THEY turned us down, not portsmouth.

Clegg and Reo look pleased! Whats up with Henderson? oh yeah right....signed a loan deal for a club he didnt want to join last year and is a little nervous!

Why isnt PJ pictured? Is he back home in Bradford while the club he "manages" is in trouble......or didn't the cameraman pack his wide angle lens?
