Town Have Most Expensive Ticket in Football League
Town Have Most Expensive Ticket in Football League

Town have the most expensive matchday ticket in the Football League, according to a BBC survey released this morning. The highest-priced seat in the Cobbold or East of England Co-operative Stand at a Grade A match costs £42.50.

The survey says the cheapest place to watch football at Championship level is Huddersfield United with their lowest-priced seat £10 compared with Town’s at £22.50. That price is for a Grade C ticket bought on the day, although, according to the Town website, the same ticket is available for £20 if purchased in advance of the match.

In terms of season tickets, according to the survey, Town have the second-highest-priced ticket at £745 with a seat costing £752 at Leeds the most expensive. However, the Town website advertises season tickets in "Premium seats" at £1,061, £816 and £894, although in previous surveys of this type the club has stated that these tickets are aimed at the corporate market.

At the other end of the scale, a season ticket for the lower Sir Bobby Robson or Sir Alf Ramsey Stands is £390, the sixth highest-priced cheapest season ticket at a Championship club.

In TWTD's annual survey, 83.22% of the 1872 respondents thought that last year's matchday prices were either "A complete rip-off" (20.67%) or "Expensive" (62.55%), this year's prices not having been announced when the survey was carried out.

As for this year's season ticket prices, our survey found that 60.58% believed they were either "A complete rip-off" (9.4%) or "Expensive" (51.18%).

The BBC says ticket prices across the board have risen by 11.7% in the last 12 months, well above the rate of inflation.

Cheap or expensive, the fickle fans at this club will pay it when a big club is drawn in the cup to play at P.R.
Cost is no barrier when you're loyal !

Who on earth is disagreeing and marking down all of these posts? Surely there's aren't people out there who actually AGREE that ticket prices should be high?

Have a look at the cheapest day out column though. Wec are nowhere near the top and only at matter of a couple of quid away from what you would pay to see Leyton Orient. Brentford, Bradford, Shrewsbury, MK dons and many more.

Apparently a season ticket for Borussia Dortmund can be purchased for €365 (around £292). This includes the first 3 Champions League group home games.

people saying our tickets aren't expensive, well you're wrong!!! They never charge tickets at Category C, the majority of them are Category B and gamers around Christmas are Category A!!!! If you buy a ticket on the day now it's around £30, not including programme, cup of tea, food at HT etc. And ITFC are wondering why attendances are falling - no-one in their right mind currently would pay around £40 for 1 adult including all of the above things to watch that drivel lose at home week in week out!!!

You only need to look at Attendances across the board on a Saturday to see that all Championship clubs are struggling to get bums on seats. We can all see that this is becasue the tickets are too expensive. Saw an interesting debate on Twitter the other week about this issue and David Johnson (King of PR) stated his belief that ticket pricing should be in bands. EG: Premiership: £30, Championship £20, League 1: £15, League 2: £10.
i think with the cost of living right now and also the number of game son TV all Clubs need to look at trying to get fans off the sofa and down to a match.

OK, so now seven people disliked my last comment. Can you please let us know your thinking?

while i totally agree that some of the ticket prices here are way too high, as usual some on here are using this as another excuse to jusyt slag off the club. stu ward for tnstance. the very 1st game of this season was a category c game, & the time of year has nothing to do with the grading of games. persona;;y i dont believe games should be graded. i think there should be a set price for all league matches of say for example £25 if bought in advance, £27 on the day, in the sbr &sar lowers, maybe a bit more elsewhere/ but a set price for whichever area you sit. but lets be honest shall we? while i think we all agree that prices are too high no1 would be complaining if we were sitting top of the table, playingbrilliant football. its purely our position in the table that causing these comments on here. what mathie & marshall says is right, a set price should be set for whichever division youre in tho i dont think £20 would be an option, as dont think clubs would cover their costs at that level.

blues1 - I'm not slagging off the clubs, they are very good in some areas behind the scenes, but in terms of football produced on the pitch, and ticket prices are awful. For example, last season, to get in on the day for a match against Nottm Forest, was £36, to watch a match where Ipswich were in poor form and playing a team who hadn't scored in 7 hours, whereas in the Prem a team like Wigan often have low prices, play good football and you watching a high standard of football.

Mind you the club financially doesn't need to lower the prices, as they won't attract sufficient extra fans to come and watch, making it more financially viable to keep them as they are, even if that means the atmosphere at Portman Road does diminish game by game.

The people barking on about "look at our cheapest ticket, it isn't that much" clearly don't buy tickets on a game to game basis. Most games are category B which the cheapest is £28.50 (on the turnstile price which is what these are comparing!), which is nearly as much as other teams "most expensive" ticket. The price is unfortunately not related to the quality of football! Will Clegg come out with some rubbish about this report? I hope not. he's better just to not make a comment.

Of course prices are too high; way way too high. Especially for the non-committed. No-one in their right minds is going to pay for the current ITFC match day experience at current rates. The fact is that football, in general, and individual clubs in particular, have their 'customers' by the short and curlies. We need them more than they need us. They have a licence to screw us and they are truly milking the privilege. Many are now seeing the light and deserting the sinking ship. Others of us still have faith but for even some of those cost is a tipping point.

And Stuward is correct. The club make more money by having high prices. If they reduced the price by 25%, there probably wouldn't be 33% increase in supporters?

£30 for 5,000 fans = £150,000. If reduced by 25% the ticket would be £22.50 so you would need 6,667 people to come to make the same money. Sorry these are just my workings!!

blue041273. no1 is saying the pricing policy is correct. but for fans to desert the sinking ship, as you put it doesnt help matters. the less fans the more theyll have to charge to make up the shortfall. and those fans will all want seats if/when we do get to the premier league.(lets hope they cant get tickets as franky its the true fans that should get to srr the good times as well as the bad). stu ward. youre right that is way too much for the forest game, but remember the prices for games are set prior to the season starting so that match was expected to be between 2 teams vying for top 6 places rather than what it was. still agree it way too expensive regardless of that mind you. but its not a case they dont need to lower the prices, its as vaughan 8 says, the number of extra fans needed to cover their costs at a lower price is way higher than that likely to achieve.would you run your business at a loss just to keep your customers happy? plus as i said before if we were playing well, no1 would be complaining. unfortunately results/performances cannot be guaranteed, only wish they could, because then id be able to have a good weekend every week instead of the way things are at the moment

No surprise there then , a value for money survey would be interesting .For years i went to all home games and some away ,i gradually had to cut to home games, then after 18 months of Roy Keane decided not to go at all.I had until a couple of weeks ago returned to going home games ,but its so bad now i really can find better things to do with my money .I havnt been to last 3 homes and wont be going again unless some major changes are made and we once again have a club that has direction and the desire to progress.

Is there anything positive about supporting our team anymore? Just one depressing story after another.

I paid £42.50 on the turnstiles for the wolves and charlton game. Great view bang on the halfway line!!! The fact we lost both games meant the view wasn't so important after all.

dirtydingusmagee. im sure we could all find other things to do with our money that would be better value, but we dont because we are supporters of itfc. a true fan supports the team whatever the situation they are in & whether they are entertaining us or not its just what you do.. then there are those fans wh only want to support the team when things going well. would probably be better for those prople if they supported a top premiership team as then they wouldnt have to come on websites whinging all the time.and no ,before ne1 says nething, im not happy with how things are, but i'll continue to support the team regardless of how they playing or what division they are in. i may well voice my displeasure at matches or even on here but i wont stop going to matches or boycott games as some fans are suggesting they will because that is not supporting your team.

If the team were playing attractive football or at least giving 100% we would not be bleating on the board tonight. Think the prices are about right and if fans want to pay high prices for sitting in the middle of the Co Op stand or Y block than they have the right to stop buying there tickets.

The problem with this club is the complete management and with this I mean Mr Clegg and his team along with Paul Jewell. We are the laughing stock of the Football League with 9 players on loan, Marcus Evans show your face at the clubs AGM....
