Club Looking Into Players' Night Out
Friday, 26th Oct 2012 09:33

Town are looking into sightings of five players out late on Wednesday night, hours after Paul Jewell’s Blues exit and prior to caretaker-boss Chris Hutchings’s first training session at Playford Road on Thursday morning.

Reports that the five - skipper Carlos Edwards, who was 34 on Wednesday, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Josh Carson, Michael Chopra and Paul Taylor — were out in Vodka Revolution appeared widely on social networking sites.

A club spokesman says the matter is being looked into, although no rules were broken: “We are aware that a number of our players were out late into the evening on Wednesday.

“Although they were not breaking any official club rules by being out, this has been brought to the attention of chief executive Simon Clegg and caretaker manager Chris Hutchings who are now dealing with it.”

Edwards had been withdrawn from Wednesday’s Supporters Club AGM as chief executive Clegg felt the players needed to be concentrating on footballing matters given the current situation.

Speaking at yesterday's pre-match press conference, Hutchings said he had told the players he would be taking a "no nonsense" approach during his time in charge.

Last week, captain Edwards said he felt former manager Jewell had been "too nice" during his latter days at the club.

That MuhrenCross

Those are extremely serious allegations you are making. Can you substantiate them ? Were you there ? Did you actually hear such comments ? Or is it reported to you by someone who was there ?

If substantiated then indeed the players were well out of order.

Actually this is a story. And I find it shocking that the players and anyone else finds this acceptable. For a starters we are bottom of the league and they all need to find a better level of professionalism. I don't expect Bradley wiggins or Mo farrow or any of out triumphant athletes went out on midweek benders just b4 the Olympics make no mistake about our position it's gonna take dedication on a par with the athletes to get us out of it.

Shameful, hope the next manager gets a grip of the f^<€*£s , not impressed. Rant over ,well
almost, give the captains armband to someone else and put a gag on Edwards... Coyb

Nothing new here - maybe there's the problem. You need to be fit and healthy to play at the top... Nothing wrong with a good night out every now and then but this appears to be an all too familiar story. Disruptive players. We need winners.

I don't really see a problem here, unless the stuff about Edwards and Carson bad-mouthing Jewell is true and if JET was boasting about his ridiculous wage packet, ect...

If they genuinely just went on a night out, no trouble was caused, and they turned up to training on time and in good shape, then leave them alone!

Hi AndrewPC, I doubt we'll hear any more from That MuhrenCross, clearly he can't substantiate, or maybe he can. If he can't and I were one of the players I would be heading for my lawyer claiming defamation of character

This is another headline from that waste of space Watson from the E.A.D.T, while he writes in that paper i will not buy it. Nothing wrong with a night out.

AndrewPC - what MuhrenCross said is all lies thankfully - he's gullible enough to believe what people on Twitter say

Funnily there's now enough on here and the forum for JET to sue him, which is going to be funny to watch! :)

Providing they didn't get absolutely hammered, i don't have a problem with this. They are human and like most young men, want to have a night out every now and then. If anything it probably improves team spirit and unity.

I watched this story unfold on Twitter, directly from people at the bar.Yes, it appears that they arrived at around 1.30pm and drank solidly for the the rest of the day. If any were still sober by the end is highly unlikely. One tweeter described how they were 'ripping' Paul Jewell. One of the 'accused' ended up puking over the dance floor! - I do not recall any mention of Chops even being there. If Carson was rude about Jewell, then good for him, he was regularly overlooked by PJ. A point made often on this forum.

While I do not condone their behaviour, I have to say even I had a celebratory drink after we parted company with PJ. Yes, they went over the top and probably felt like s**t the next day, but they don't deserve punishment, undoubtedly, the players have similar views to the majority of this forum and were pleased see the back of PJ.

Well if you are going out drinking, then Vodka Revolution is the place to go.

Steve H - they were lying unfortunately as none of the group were drinking and Chopra is tee-total!

We'll see, but MuhrenCross is in a very awkward place right now if they decide to take it any further....

I dont think it is alright and its just a few lads team bonding? Its part of a wider British problem that everything is sorted having a drink. Its especially sad when it involves professional footballers. These guys are supposed to be athletes being paid good money to deliver the goods on Saturday/Tuesday. In other countries this would just not be accepted. Surely being a top athlete, maintaining peak fitness and being at the top of your sport for as long as is possible should be the driving force of these players? Sadly I fear not but its not all their fault it needs a cultural and social change to happen in the country for things to really change.

Easy Peasey! Drop them all for Saturday's game.

Edwards loses captaincy, Carson is in the reserves and JET and Chopra after how poor they've been, the support they've received and their Twitter outbursts...GET RID!!

So Edwards was withdrawn from the supporters AGM so he could concentrate on footballing matters

Right! He is supposed to be the team captain and should have fronted up the supporters at the meeting. So it was his birthday - big deal. Shame on him and the others

Hope Hutchins drops them all for Saturday. Give the armband to Chambers.

And JET. What a complete waste of space and wages. Get him out of the club

This demonstrates a lack of class in my opinion. Given the days events the players in question should have respectfully kept a lower profile. It's especially poor form from Edwards, who skipped the AGM for this. A good captain should set an example.

This is the real problem with the club. No manager should have to deal with these losers.

What really pisses me of is 'us the fans' have spent hard earned money on the next few games a hotel and that in B'ham etc.. And they can't even be bothered to act responsibly. It's a disgrace to pj who lost his job due to these morons inept displays, the fans and the club. Go and get pissed all you want when you are doing the business but when your bottom of the league if I see you in a pub you will get a slap. Maybe it's overhyped this story but I'm sick of these. I have never rated Hutch but if he investigates an this story is true I would drop them all and stick them in the reserves and I would respect that.

I really hoped our plight would pull everyone together but stories like this make me lose faith in football in general.

Ps I hope there is no truth in this story and I just believe all stories I read on here!!

Pps my response in reflection is unfairly harsh when this story is probably nothing. Hands up apologies to all called morons! I'm very frustrated and have defended all of you lately so please don't let me down and do the business on the pitch tomo.
