Town Linked With McCarthy Talks
Friday, 26th Oct 2012 20:14

Town are reported to have spoken to former Millwall, Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy. The 53-year-old has always been viewed as amongst the experienced bosses the Blues would be interested in speaking to as they look for a replacement for Paul Jewell, who left by mutual consent on Wednesday.

Presumably as a result of the reports, the odds on McCarthy becoming the next Blues boss have tumbled with some bookmakers

The club are remaining tight-lipped regarding potential targets, refusing to rule in or out any specific individuals.

McCarthy, who left Wolves in February and spoke to Nottingham Forest this summer, would appear to fit the profile of the new manager Town are looking for as outlined by chief executive Simon Clegg at Wednesday’s Supporters Club AGM: “This is not going to be a high-risk appointment.

“We need to have someone that we’ve got confidence in, who has got the necessary experience and skill-base to get us out of this current hole and get us to where we want to go in the long run.”

this would go down as one of our worst choices mcarthy or megson are two of the dullest men in football and likewise there teams. we need a character to lift team , attendances and morale because we have been on downward spirall for so long . a reasonable compromise would be billy davies or for a gamble tarrico

The players would be giving 100% each and every week with Mick or they would be out!

not my number one choice,
but what you get here is a brutaly honest man who is still in touch with current players, vast experience and a man who can deal with big time charlies,
hell i think im nearly convincing myself

Well talbs as long as he only looks like a muppet and doesnt behave like one, we have a chance of scrapping to safety and perhaps even put a little credibility back .... coyb

He might save us from the Johnstones Paint Trophy southern section.

Reckon he could do a job. I would feel confident he would sort us out if he got the job.

lets not get into what they look like again - can't hep looking at the angle of his nose, I'd lose concentration of what he would say in post match interviews.

to do what? Save us from relegation and spend another 2 years below mid table?

Hes exactly the type of manager we need right now. Get us out of the s**t and stabilise the club. He also has a good record of bringing players from the lower leagues.

At least he knows exactly what he wants ,delivers that message and all of his teams work their socks off. We need an inspirational leader ,not a untried untested man at the helm. So i would welcome him . He would also have a defence that defends, wingers who create and plays 442. We need him more than he needs us. Plus he hates dark lord roy so thats a bonus

Won't take any crap from those who don't pull their weight.

Might be just the one to sort these under performers out?

McCarthy promised Premier League football at Molineux within three seasons. From this awkward position, McCarthy managed to collect together a team from the club's youth ranks, and some lower league signings, and free transfers. Despite the lack of expectations, the team managed to make the promotion play-offs in McCarthy's first season, but it was third time unlucky for McCarthy in them as the team lost out to local rivals West Bromwich Albion over two legs, losing 3—2 at Molineux and 1—0 at The Hawthorns.

I'd take that right now!!

Long time reader, first time poster.

I'd be pretty pleased with Mick, if I'm honest. Sure, he's not the most glamorous of hires, but I don't think that's what we need right now. What we need is an experienced manager with a sound head on his shoulders, some substance to his game and tactics, and the wherewithal to be able to assess what we've got, go out and get what we need and get rid of what we don't. It might not be pretty, but it will work - and that's all I care about at the moment.

I'd love to see a young, up-and-coming manager step in and revolutionize our football with smarts and style, but there's an undoubted element of risk to that choice. And that's not even an option we can afford to consider at this point.

The fact of the matter is that we need a strong character, someone the whole club will listen to - fans included - and I think that in McCarthy, or in Curbishley for that matter, we'd fill that quota.

Never really rated him - overhyped. got a decent wolves team promoted at 3 attempts. then scraped by for 2 seasons with boring football. I want attractive football back more than us scraping by and going up to come back down. Hes never really had an impressive managerial career. Burley is a much better option -

McCarthy has the experience and the character to turn our club around. First choice candidate.

I love the way someone is marking all the positive posts down! Sorry for being positive...some people won't be happy whoever we get!

Good choice but understand there are other clubs looking for managers, could be that we'll miss out on the best like we have with players.

Must have as good a chance as any to take us upward and onward.

Phil, you must be delighted with the site's volume these days- 2 pages of replies in 50 minutes! Keep up good work as ever. Thanks.

Interesting! My first reaction was no but the more i think about and just reviewed his stats then he could be the right man. He would be leadership, which we are not getting from SC or ME and is good in this Div. Does he play good attractive football, not sure but club in a deep nosedive at the moment and he is the guy to steady the ship.

Sam the Eagle gets my vote - far better than Shearer imo

In Golf they are called journeymen......make a good living out of the game and achieve nothing whatsoever....just bore people to death on the way.

We are going backwards even considering this man....
