Chopra Defends Night Out Five
Friday, 26th Oct 2012 21:06

Striker Michael Chopra has defended the five players who were spotted out in Town on Wednesday. Earlier today, Town said they were looking into claims that Chopra and four of his team-mates were out in Vodka Revolution late on Wednesday evening.

A club spokesman said that the matter is being checked out, despite no rules having been broken: “We are aware that a number of our players were out late into the evening on Wednesday.

“Although they were not breaking any official club rules by being out, this has been brought to the attention of chief executive Simon Clegg and caretaker manager Chris Hutchings who are now dealing with it.”

Chopra launched a robust defence on Twitter, disputing that they were out late: "Did not realise going out on a Wednesday was a big thing. Not as if I was drinking and [was] back home at 11.30. Some people need to get a f***** life.

“I’ve done nothing wrong, it was Carlos’s birthday. You’re telling me you’re going to stay in when it’s your mate’s birthday? Don't think you would. People make things out to be worse than what it is.”

We understand that at least another one the players involved returned home at a similar hour to Chopra.

Birthday boy Edwards had been withdrawn from Wednesday’s Supporters Club AGM as chief executive Simon Clegg felt the players needed to be concentrating on footballing matters given the current situation.

No issues with this at all, ultimately football is a job, and like the rest of us that work....we have a life outside of our job so do players.....some "fans" struggle to see that, all because you are a player you should be 100% eat your greens, play football, don't lead a life outside of that....not how that works....never has never will

Hmmm, here's whats gonna happen tomorrow.

The crowd will most likely start with a pretty apathetic approach to the game, making very little effort to get behind the team. Rather than contribute to being the 12th man, this will most likely contribute to the team playing like the 10 man team we've recently been seeing.

Nobody in the crowd will hawl back individuals sat around them when they start to criticise or display gestures of contempt for the players. Many will actually join in!
It's a key time for those on the pitch with no Manager to take the flack during the game!
Will they be anxious? You bet they will!

In short, the collective crowd of 17k or whatever will make little headway in offering the effort they seem to be demanding of their players.

We will lose 0-2.

Now I wonder what would happen if the crowd actually believed that the team could pull this around and gave them their unwavering support for the whole 94 minutes no matter what. Confidence from the crowd would translate to confidence on the pitch whether justified or not! We've all seen it in the past! It's part of Football Team management that no manager can supply during such a rut.

The problem is that the crowd are made up from the same sort of human beings that make up the team! They're erring (on and off the pitch!) and difficult to get to work as a tighly knit and organised collective. It doesn't matter what they're paid. Once on the pitch, the money doesn't count for much.

Oh for goodness sake, my earlier comment appears to have been removed by the thought police.

To restate, "you utter chump Mr Chopra, we pay your wages so why don't you behave like a good egg and start earning your huge salary".

TWTD - the last bastion of free speech.....ho ho ho

Very quickly seeing why Chopra was so cheap and available. He's been nothing but trouble!! Hope he leaves so we can get a striker in who actually scores goals and respects the fans who pay his extortionate wages (and gambling debts)

gotta say that in fairness, provided that they weren't supposed to be at work the next day, i can't see what all the fuss is about. they are allowed to have time out just the same as anyone else. the other thing is this, when the stuff hits the fan, a good night out in the company of my friends sorts me out and gets my head straight, that's just what they were doing. i'd rather they blow off some steam and feel more relaxed going into tomorrow's game, than constantly come under scrutiny in frankly pointless new paper articles, and sink further.

Getting annoyed by Chops, this is why a strong character will be useful as a manager. No one seems to clamp JET or Chops down when they abuse fans and act like three year olds. at other clubs he would be fined but Jewell was too leanient and now we haven't got a manager so they can do what they like for the time being in there eyes. Chops could play naked for all I care as long as he's scoring goals and giving us every ounce he has, but he isn't doing that. The players with great careers are those who act professionally are dedicated people like Messi and Iniesta. Ronaldo seems to enjoy a night out but he scores nearly every game, they can do what they like in there spare time, but if they're not performing and they're abusing fans then they are crossing the line.

I have no idea why this twerp is still at the club after his previous attack on the fans. The fact several were out on the p*ss Wednesday night doesn't worry me (except Edwards pulled out of a club engagement to do so, so should be stripped of the captaincy with immediate effect), but the fact that this overweight under-skilled waster keeps attacking the fans is unacceptable. Sack him : no pay off ; breach of contract (again).

No problem with players going out, but they cannot be seen to 'have a go' at nameless supporters on social network sites like Twitter. Chops would do well to close his Twitter account if he is going to use it to vent his anger at 'supporters'. The club should step in and tell players not to make comments on social network sites that relate to their employment with ITFC. I am sure that this would be the case with employees of other organisations.

It's not a hanging offence!

Some people need to take a chill pill on here.

If it was my mate's birthday, I'd be out with him for a beer too.

Insensitive to Paul Jewell? A few days ago, before he left the club, most people on here were verbally spitting vitriol on his soon-to-be managerial corpse.

The only thing a night out will do for our squad is help them bond. God knows, Jewell couldn't get 'em to do it!!!

I was happy to sign Chopra knowing his addictions and afflictions.
However, if us have known his affliction was also being a spoilt, thick, arrogant, insensitive Chav I'd I have said no.

Get rid of him and JET. Pair of clowns.

Perhaps Chopra should try doing less "tweeting" & start concentrating on doing what he's paid to do, scoring goals. Coz he certainly ain't holding to his end of the deal, brought us more trouble than a little, then had the bloody cheek to start swearing on Twitter.....

Why are people getting their knickers in a twist.

These are a group of young(ish) lads celebrating a mates birthday. How man people here go OU to a drink during the week. Football is their job, not their life.

All work and no play makes (enter name here) dull boys.

Chill out.mpeople like a moan because of a moan.

I am afraid Chopra was a very poor PJ signing. We need an experienced manager who can deal with disruptive players like him ... enter Mick McCarthy.

Someone should hide his f****** iphone or at least remove the twitter app!

Totally agree about Chopra though.

An expensive liability who doesn't live up to his billing.

He's been about as much use as a penguin in a pigeon race.

Chopra is really pi$$ing me off now. To think what ITFC has done for him, and he's now acting like a brat. Give Twitter a miss, and concentrate of trying to get somewhere near the 30 goals you set yourself. You'll be lucky to reach double figures at this rate. GROW UP.

Chopra you are bad news just like Bullard before you. If you can't understand why people are fed up with you're antics you are more stupid than I thought. You owe this club and every one who has paid to see a match since you arrived. You help to prove every person who claims footballers are thick to be right. Either start scoring goals or clear off. It's not like you will be missed on the pitch

When I was a kid I use to idolize the likes of Pablo, kuqi, Darren bent, matt Holland, fab etc! All the kids use to have names of such players on their shirts back then. There is just no one in the suad who is worth that now and I couldnt see anyone idiolizing any of these lot.

rolly added 22:41 - Oct 26
oh and I wouldnt want any of my kids to be idiolizing any of this crop tbh! I saw josh Carson using foul language and talking a load of squit on twitter earlier. The last player we had who I actually genuinely liked was Jamie peters.

In as many working environments that I've known, social gatherings, alcohol involved or not have always proved positive on the up coming working results... Also the same with clubs, hobbies, amateur football and any other organisation with multiple members, what is different here?

The worst thing about ITFC is the crying fans... It's embarrassing!!

The new manager should ban Chopra from Twitter and let him have it back when he promises to be a good little boy :))

Any body know Max Clifford's mobile phone number, Chopra could use him big time. He's alienating himself from the people indirectly paying his wages (and bailing him out from his gambling debts) every time he switches on his iphone.
