Martin Misses Burnley Clash
Friday, 9th Nov 2012 09:29

Midfielder Lee Martin is out of Saturday's home game with Burnley having picked up his fifth booking of the season against Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old was yellow-carded for dissent late in the second half at Selhurst Park and as a result serves a one-match ban.

He had previously picked up cautions in the games against Charlton, Barnsley, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday.

I like Martin but think at home we should have 2 genuine goal scorers on the pitch. Challenge is we only have one in the squad. Time for Chops or Scotland to take their opportunity alongside DJ.

Effort 10/10 but has usually run himself into the ground by 60 minutes. Final result ie goal, really effective cross etc 5/10.
Not sorry to see him rested as it will give another - perhaps Carson or moving Edwards forward to his more natural position, a chance to show MM what they can do.
Need 3 points Saturday. COYB

Burnley have conceded more goals away from home than any side in the division (including us!!). Might bode for high scoring game but we've scored less at home than everyone else (because we usually put 5 in midfield and have no goal scoring midefoelders). Martin being out gives MM an opportunity to try a more attacking style of play in front of our own fans.

I am just hoping that whoever plays on saturday is playing in a 4-4-2 system and not 4-5-1 because hopefully MM realises that system just doesn't work with the players he currently has.

Good he was crap at Palace ! Most of his tackles are mis-timed , which is why he keeps getting booked !

My opinion of Martin seems to change. When he first came here under RK, I thought he was totally useless, then when PJ brought him back he had a purple patch playing central behind the striker. Now I think he's beginning to revert back to the original Martin. Couldn't honestly care less whether he signs a new contract or not. Don't think many other clubs will offer him a decent contract anyway. On Saturday, play Edwards wide right, and Ainsley at full back. Everyone who has ever watched ITFC knows that Carlos is not a full back. 2 up front please

Can't say I'm disappointed. He's all fart and no poo! We've effectively created an ineffective formation to fit an average player into the team. 4-4-2 with a new large man required. Martin is pretty uninspiring and his performance and booking at palace summed him up.

At least we will not worry about him being a red card about to happen ! He was a change I would have likedf to see as he has no real end product .

Not bothered, Fair enough everyone goes on how commited he is, thats rubbish you and me can run around like a headless chicken and throw yourself around. For an attacking player he dont score, dont create goals, cant take a player on. all in all not good enough

Perhaps we will see ''hot shot Chopra'' our 30/40 goal this season super striker ! hopefully he will be aware of the fact that he is lagging behind Austin a tad !.Defence will be put to test again i fear .

Paz, Smith at LB, really? Would rather Wight be given a first team game as that is his natural position. Not sure JET behind the striker would work either as we need to play a 4-4-2 so I would play Scotland or Murray up with Cambell. I have not seen Chambers play RB but he did play there for Forest so worth a go, would probably give Carson a place instead of Cresswell at the moment.

Martin is a 110% player whose energy and workrate will be missed. Still lacks that final ball and finishing ability.
Carson not good enough for the step up as proven in his last appearance.
Try pushing Edwards into midfield give Ainsley a run out and JET in for Murphy

Just being absent will improve the team 100%, even if we replace him with one of the burger sellers.

Step up to the plate now JET! I'd like to see us with 2 up top tomorrow though! Whatever we do we have to put Charlie Austin in row z!!

However he does have the most assists this season.

His pace and work rate will be a miss. Was the root cause of DJ's winner against B'mingham and imo last season was one of our best players.

Hes a headless chicken , contrubution to the team is effort ,but he lacks quality. However if his effort was matched by his team mates ,he would prob have more time to selct a decent pass , cross or shot.

Blessing in disguise, all the fans want 2 up top at home. Give JET a go up front and ditch this boring 4-5-1.

What a boost for Saturday. I'm fed up of watching his useless displays. I bet the other players will be relieved as well.

I would play Murph up front with Campbell and have Jet, Reo Coker, Luongo and N'Daw in the middle.

Not many options for defence apart from Ainsley at right back and put Carlos into midfield at the expense of Luongo.
