Luongo's Loan Cut Short Friday, 9th Nov 2012 14:47 Town and Spurs have agreed to terminate midfielder Massimo Luongo's season-long loan with the Blues. The 20-year-old has been out of the first team picture at Portman Road in recent games with the Blues only able name five of their six domestic loanees in a matchday 18.
Boss Mick McCarthy said: “Massimo has gone back. He's a good footballer, but you'd expect that coming from Tottenham, but I need a different type of player.
"He's not been playing games and Tottenham said that if he's not playing football here, then they will take him back. We wish Mass well."
The Australian made eight starts and three sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.
Meanwhile, Richie Wellens is set to play the final game of his loan spell against Burnley tomorrow with no agreement yet in place regarding an extension with the Blues facing his parent club Leicester next week, a match he wouldn't be able to play in.

Obviously a good player but he came here to play games and if MM cannot offer him that then it's probably best for him to go back to Spurs. Wish him well

PS hopefully this will push Hyam up the pecking order and we can develop our own talent rather than someone elses!!

Good move by McCarthy, Luongo is a good player in the making but not for Ipswich right now. Maybe one or two more loans will be leaving giving McCarthy a bit of maneuvering space for some of his own choices/loans.

Good news, when we have our own young player in this position this loan was pointless from the outset. Thanks though Massimo and good luck in the future

Makes sense that if he is not in MM plans to send back and free up wages and another loanee or better still new ITFC player.

MM prob needs to bring in the players he want so best of luck massimo for the future. Reckon Wellens wont be back either so hopefully MM will have a few players lined up. Loans are his only option at the moment.

Great shame, he was very talented and level-headed for his age. Best of luck at Spurs and will be watching his career with interest.

saw it coming, good player but is he any better than what we have? no. I'd much sooner play Hyyam n Drury let alone the others

Presumably Wellens is eligible to play against us next week in which case we have a moral duty to run him into the ground tomorrow and send him back exhausted!

Good Luck and thanks - Take stage Hyam - I really want LH to make it - been too long since we had one of 'our ' boys make it as a regular in the team ....

I say this , hes a good young player ,but proof of Jewells idiotic recruitment policy. We needed , centre halves , a right back ,a left back and an imosing centre forward. What we got was 7 midfielders and a dwarf striker. His constant comments in the summer of needing some hieght and powerr in the team saw him sign a total of 10 players excluding goal keepers ,and only one over 6 feet tall. If you think about this for a moment it simply shows that he could never carry out what he wanted to. So my guess is his instructions to his team on the pitch in terms of tactics was very poorly delivered also. MM has a huge task,a rebuild at the same time as not being relegated. The task is not behond him ,which is why he is just the manager we need at this time. COYB

Not sure why he lost his place under PJ as he was one of the better midfielders. However, looks like MM is going to look for players with more height and strength rather than silky skills.

Better than Reo Coker, Drury, Hyam in my opinion. I guess as he is the yougster will always be scapegoat, easy to drop rather than big name

Good move : now let's get rid of the other couldn't-care-less mercenaries, starting with Murphy. The loan system is a disgrace and should be scrapped.
hadleighboyblue added 15:23 - Nov 9
A shame as he had talent , but the new manager needs to get his own players in , so expect others to go as well , Henderson and Murphy hopefully , as they are no better than our contracted players. MM has a massive job to do , but he is the right man to make some tough decisions to turn things round

Maybe Mick is clearing decks so he can bring young conner back to town. I am not a lover of loans players but this lad is worshiped by the town fans and he would have point to prove to sunderland. How much longer as loach got to punnished for having one bad game.

Did very well for us pre season and in early part of season but not what we want now in a relegation dog fight. Good luck Massimo and am sure you will make the grade somewhere if not at Tottenham.

1 down 3 or 4 to go.would only keep Dj C,higgo and n'daw get rid of the rest. Shame about mass tho as STB says did well pre-season.no point him being here if he can't even make the bench. it will interesting to see who MM has got in mind to bring in. COYB a win sat please

sorry Massimo, we can only name 5 loan players in a squad of 18 on matchday!just as well really or we'd have had 18 on loan the way things were going under Jewellio. GOOD LUCK Massimo.

Two or three loans is ok and out of the ones i have seen only campbell wellens and Ndaw have impressed me. Campbell seems to get excited when he score fo town and he seem the most dedicated.

Well put Bluefeast - We are a very small side and also lightweight - Reo Coker is def a Super heavy though - N Daw is solid and Hyam is tough - if not tall Need some more physical presence - CW would add to that !! as well as Moshni !!

Luongo is the one of the only players who played for the club with his heart under Paul Jewel's generation. It was a really bad idea to get rid of him. I really hope this is a one off bad decision. COYB

i disagree with everyone who is glad to see the back of luongo.at least the guy turned up for pre season!the only bad game i've seen him have(and he didnt play that badly...)was against charlton and that was because he was out muscled by ricardo fuller. we seem to have forgotten when he played against watford.my only gripe was he could disappear from games.most of our loans where fleeting mentions during the summer transfer rumour mills and now turn up a third of the season gone.and then have the cheek to want to play in the first team and not match fit. i'm still trying to find the logical thinking in this cock up. i personally think spurs started asking what was going on and said we'll have him back thank you very much.thats two decent loans we've lost from spurs, andros townsend was another young eager player we wasted.i hope mick is asking these guys if they are committing for as long as possible or leaving now.
