Sheepshanks Awarded CBE
Saturday, 29th Dec 2012 08:11

Former Town chairman David Sheepshanks has been awarded a CBE for services to football and charitable services in Suffolk in the New Year Honours list.

Sheepshanks, who is now the chairman of St George’s Park, the National Football Centre near Burton-upon-Trent, was chairman of the Blues from 1995 until 2008.

He said: “I feel both humbled and proud. Of course, it is a wonderful honour to receive personally, but I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for all the special people that I have been privileged to work with along the way, both in the world of football and locally in Suffolk.

"And most of all, thanks to my wonderful wife and family, whose support is unwavering.

“Of course, 2012 has been a magnificent year for all of us at The FA with the opening of St George’s Park.

"I feel that I receive this award in recognition of the combined efforts of the fabulous team that I have been privileged to lead who have designed, built, and now operate St George’s Park.”

FA chairman David Bernstein says Sheepshanks deserves the award: “It is fitting that David is recognised for his hard work and dedication, not just to St George’s Park, but to football in general.

“His energy and enthusiasm for the project knows no bounds and it is fitting that as we enter our 150th year, we are able to celebrate in this way with David.”

The former Town chief was recently the subject of TWTD’s Ex-Files, which you can find here.

"I feel both humbled and proud....support of my wife..." Blah blah. Christ is there room for any more cliches? I think you forgot to mention "those who have always believed in you" to build this massive white elephant at great expense during a time of unprecedented recession...

Am i missing something here.Didn't his miss management take ipswich into administration and as a result leave many local business's facing bankruptcy?
Wasn't he responsible for sacking Burley too early?
I agree witb pickles110564 and at least Ken Livingstone had the balls to say no the CBE.
The new year honours are a total joke.

I'm not sure I could care less, but I am intrested in the odds of St Georges Park running well for five years and then going into administration after drastic and un-needed redevelopment!

Bloody Eaton Spiv.......

Top bloke who always had time for the fans whether at the game or in the street. Very harsh to blame him totally for us going into administration. His only crime was to trust Burley as he had done for years but Burley wasted 10 million pounds and more on players and their massive wages. Couple this with the demise of ITV and subsequent lack of income from TV coverage and we were in trouble. Add to the fact that had we sold Holland and Hermann at their correct values we would have avoided administration not the fault of Sheepshanks as the players did not want to go. Well done David and thanks for all the good times.

Have to agree with Stow Tractor Boy, fans on this board forget about the 10 very good years we had wth DS at the helm. How many years were we involved in the play offs, Play off final winners at Wembley. First season in the Premiership finishing 5th and only just missing out on a Champions League spot, 2 years in Europe. Who can forget the memorable trips to Moscow, Helsinborg and Milan.
Extremely well deserved and still a BLUE....
