Debut Duo Delighted
Saturday, 4th May 2013 17:32

Jack Marriott and Tyrone Mings were both delighted to make their Town debuts, despite the Blues falling to a 2-0 defeat at Burnley. Meanwhile, at the other end of an Ipswich career, Lee Martin’s Blues exit appears to have been confirmed by his team-mates.

Marriott told the club site: “It’s brilliant and my head is still spinning to be honest with you! My stomach was doing somersaults before the game and I was very nervous when I came on.

“I settled down once I got into the game though and I thought I did okay. It was a great experience for me and I want to continue to work hard over the summer so I can hit the ground running.

“The gaffer and TC have been brilliant with me and I want to prove to them that I can be around the first-team again next season.”

Mings added: “I enjoyed every minute of it and the intensity was higher than any other game I’d played in," he told the club site.

“Obviously both teams were safe before the game, so maybe it wasn’t as intense as it may have been if we were both scrapping for our lives, but it was still great to be out there.

“I’d heard rumours earlier in the week that I might be included and surprisingly the nerves didn’t seem to kick in!

“I thought I did okay for my first game and did what was asked of me. I enjoyed playing in front of a large crowd and although the result didn’t go our way, I’m delighted on a personal level to have made my debut at the professional level.

“It’s been a strange season for me, but a great one at that. I started it playing non-League football and being a mortgage advisor and now I’ve finished it as a professional footballer with Ipswich playing in the Championship at Turf Moor. It’s just amazing really and now I want to push on.”

Meanwhile, as TWTD reported this morning, winger Lee Martin appears set to turn down Town’s offer of greatly reduced terms with team-mate Luke Chambers putting a captioned photograph on Instagram.

Manager Mick McCarthy is set to officially announce the fate of the out of contract players this week with Andy Drury and Arran Lee-Barrett set to be released when their deals are up at the end of June.

Thats unfortunate really, that his time with Town has been so up and down; but if his look is anything to go by....well I suppose it's for the best. I'm not sorry to see him go but he might make a good league one player, if he puts in extra target practice.

What I forgot to say is that young Jack did more this afternoon than some did all season, and will be a great addition to the first team....soon; but not quite yet. My earlier comments were about Martin.

I'm sure this comment will be disliked but Lee Martin was terrible all season and won't be a loss that he's gone

Good riddance to Martin, always a liability likely to do something stupid and concede a free kick or get carded. You could live with that almost if he weighed in with some goals but he doesn't so thats that.

Although we lost good to see the youngsters given a taste of the action i'm really looking forward to next season(haven't got many left at my age!! but I've seen us win the championship & a couple of cups sorry 3 cause we did the budgies in the Texaco cup!!!) looks like mr yellow/red card martin will bugger off reduced terms are beneath him!!?? also what bets on a local derby next year? the budgies are folding alarmingly.

Always thought Martin would be off, and so he is. Hopefully this will mean that we are adding another midfielder, as Drury has gone too. If we could just get Judge, I would be thrilled. As for Mariott, he sounded as though he put in a good shift. Mings sounded excellent as well. Shame about the result really, but I am already looking forward to next season!

Ironic that MM specifically said on Thursday that the list of released and retained players would be given to the media in one go after the weekend, and that he didn't want to see anything ending up on twitter before that time!

(I wish these had been separate stories so that we could all have expressed our happiness about the arrival of the youngsters without it being tainted by frustration directed at Martin.)

Well done, Jack and Tyrone–now go tell your mates in the U-21s and U-18s how brilliant it was and how hard you're going to work to get your next appearance.
