Town Set to Miss Out on Hunt
Sunday, 26th May 2013 21:02

Town are set to miss out on the signature of out-of-contract Wolves winger Stephen Hunt, who we understand is also a target of Leicester, Middlesbrough and a German second tier side.

The 31-year-old Irishman was approached by the Blues but TWTD has learnt that significantly better terms are on offer at the other three interested clubs.

Hunt, who missed much of Wolves’ second successive relegation season due to injury, played under Mick McCarthy at Molineux, the Town boss having signed him from Hull City for £3 million in the summer of 2010.

I'd say that rather than 'missing out', Mick was probably never in the market for him. Just doesn't seem to be the sort of player he's looking for this summer.

Whoever comes in wide left is going to have to hit the ground running. Whether you rated Martin or not, I think that left side has been a large disappointment or inconsistency for many years now. My feeling is MM wants someone mid 20s onward to establish themselves in that role and to grow with what is a relatively youthful side. Hunt doesn't fit the bill for me no matter what wage he may have been offered.

If we were in for Judge, hunt is definitely a bullet dodged.

Super Mick has offered him what he thinks he's worth now. N if he can't accept that n become part of a winning team next season.. It's his loss.... Far better younger faster n hungrier players out there, who would be proud to put the town shirt on week in week out. In Super Mick I Trust.. And for the 1st time in ages... Really looking forward to next season. COYB

Im a Town fan living in Ireland and this is great news,Hunt never lived up to what he could have been and I am happy enough he is off elsewhere,we have enough Deadwood in the likes of Chopra and ET to be getting rid of without another egotistic waist of space on our hands

Not that worried about this, would much rather see a young quick winger from the lower leagues given a chance, harry forester from brentford would be perfect for us, Southend also had a youngster on loan from Southampton who looked quality

Mick I trust you

Not too disappointed ! I'm sure that Mick will pursue the players to enhance the team .. Let's all enjoy the break and leave the decisions to the "professionals " .

Looking forward to play off final .. COME ON PALACE!!

I see Ambrose has been released by Birmingham. I know old players returning has never really worked out in the past, but he should never of left when he did. Let him come back and show us what we missed out on, recapture the form he showed at Palace.

Not disappointed about this, even if he was actually on MM's radar anyway. Judging by how MM has worked so far, his genuine targets are kept under wraps, and these 'links' are just paper talk and rumours.

Sign SEB from wolves instead

Like others - am really not concerned if we miss out on a player with a recent poor injury record. BUT what is slightly worrying is the words offered 'significantly better terms' by clubs like Leicester and Middlesboro. Surely, we need to be able to compete with both of these teams? Not spend silly money, but be competitive. Others offering significantly better terms than us is a worry.

When did ITFC build a great team with expensive 'has -beens' from other clubs?

Thank goodness MM knows what he's doing. He'll have a plan and will know what players fit into it (and I doubt that would include Hunt).

Not surprised by this. We have the right man in place, but we're going to miss out on a number of our targets because we are unwilling to offer the money that some other clubs have to throw around. It's as simple as that. Whether this will prove a wise strategy or a missed opportunity only time will tell.

with the current lack of a proper left winger at the club i think mick would be better off purchasing somebody 26 or under who can kick on and improve and make the place his own for the mcarthy era.
hunt would of been good back up for that position but if the wages he wants are greater than we would want to pay for a squad player then we move on.
there are so many decent player out of contract at the moment we should be in a strong negotiation position especially with all clubs looking at the FFP regs
will support whoever mick brings in

Glad about this, he ain't worth the wages, we you should use the money to lure and pay someone decent like Harry Forrester, what's happened there anyway, tought we were in for him?
