McGoldrick Hails Town Team Spirit Saturday, 17th Aug 2013 12:00 David McGoldrick has hailed the Portman Road team spirit that he believes could propel Town forward in the coming months. McGoldrick said: “Everybody gets on well and it’s not always like that. I’ve been at clubs myself where that hasn’t always been the case but there are no bad eggs here. “There’s a good spirit in the squad and with the staff — plenty of smiley faces around the place. At some of my previous clubs certain players wouldn’t sit with others for pre-match meals but there’s nothing like that here. “I can honestly say that everyone at Ipswich is level-headed and we all get on. It’s a huge positive and so is the fact that the manager is always approachable. He respects the players as men and the feeling is mutual. “We know that if we have any problems we can talk to him. If he has issues with us he talks to us on a personal level and not down to us. Players appreciate that and it’s why we go out and work 100 per cent for him.” After last season’s successful fight against relegation under manager Mick McCarthy, who took over in November with Town bottom of the table, McGoldrick said the players were setting their sights higher this time around. He added: “I don’t know what the manager is thinking but we want to be solid and make Portman Road a hard place for teams to come and play. You could see it on Saturday because Millwall didn’t have many chances and we were hard to beat. “If we can get a good home record and be solid away from home I think a top-half finish is achievable. It’s a hard league to get out of and a hard league to stay in so we’ve got to do what we can.”
