Richardson Terms Reportedly Agreed
Friday, 24th Jan 2014 15:17

Town are understood to have agreed terms with Middlesbrough regarding the loan of right-back Frazer Richardson.

According to Sky Sports, the Blues and Boro have agreed an initial loan for the 31-year-old, who was close to joining Blackpool on a similar basis until Paul Ince’s sacking by the Tangerines earlier this week.

Rotherham-born Richardson started his career with Leeds where he made 145 starts and 28 sub appearances in nine years, scoring five times.

Having spent two spells on loan at Stoke early in his time at Elland Road, 5ft 11in tall Richardson moved on to Charlton in the summer of 2009.

After a year at the Valley he joined Southampton before signing for Boro at the start of this season. He has made only 11 appearances since his switch, the most recent in November.

Richardson won't be in the squad for Saturday's home game with Reading with the deal likely to go through on Monday.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has been keen to add to his defensive options during the transfer window with his regular back four and Tyrone Mings currently his only options.

Looks like Mick has received permission from the invisible man to bring in one player, and true to form its a defender;although do need a right back as long as he is decent.Seems to have had several clubs though.
Has started to seem like we are going back to the days of PJ regarding the acquisition of players.
Hope Mr Evans also sanctioned the purchase of a good midfielder in his chat with the manager this week;but would be surprised if it was anything other than another loanee.

Some guys here don't appreciate nothing. #Retarded.

-Good signing Mick, hope he's fit for Leeds.

This is good news, the team have lacked an experienced right back all season, I hope Mick reunites Chambers with Smith in central defence :)

...... as much as we desperately need square pegs in square holes - I really cannot see too much in this to get excited about - if we are fairly certain we will stay out of the relegation places, I would much prefer to see Hewitt return and given a chance during this second half of the season.
After all he is OUR player - and I really don't see the point in yet another loan / short term move with someone the wrong side of 30, all be it I guess experienced (haven't heard of him before tho').

But we are not allowed to question MM's decisions - so hit the minus button and call me negative, as you no doubt will.

If this was a permanent move i'd say Yes, but tbh i'd rather us progress our own RB in Hewitt who has the potential to be a starter in our squad for many years to come, but we have loaned in a 31yr old, however having said that he brings experience which will help to calm things down and keep going as we hopefully end the season with a chance of top 6. So mixed reactions to this.

From the perspective of Mick-logic, this seems to make a lot of sense. Hope that Hewitt in the future becomes a Town fixture, but maybe he's not quite there yet. Mick must know what he's going to do with Smith/Chambo/Berra, but I don't. I await with interest the answer to this question (always assuming the Richardson deal goes through). A point against Reading would not be a disaster given their recent form. COYB!

@MitchtheITFCman

He has shown quality but still very unreliable. He's a bit like David James, one minute he'll pull off a world class save, then the next minute he loses his head abd costs us a goal. All the top teams have a consistent goalkeeper.

good move, with a strengthened defence, Mid-Table Mick should really be able to tie up that 13th spot early this year.

Don't want to be pessimistic here but are they over flowing with RB's at Boro then he's obviously not good enough for them or is it a case their new manager Karanka likes to play deck football and is not his type of player? we are obviously desperate to get a natural player in that position, but seems to be Mick's type, experienced around 30 etc. Not overly excited at this prospect and will Mick play a natural right sided midfielder as well?
As mentioned above who will give way? Smith and Chambers back together again please.

Ridiculous signing in my opinion when Hewitt is more than capable

Very underwhelmed by this signing. Sorry Mick, never heard of him & at 31 that would signal he isn't a mucher. Then again, if ME & FFP dictate the ourse strings...

there really are some idiotic comments on here. so hes 31. so what? and hes on loan? only the 2nd loan player this season. the fact is we need a proper right back. and many on here have been stating that for some time. so mm goes and gets one and gets criticised for doing so. of course, we all know there are more important areas to fill in the team but to be honest I believe the players we have here are good enough to solve the midfield problem if only the manager would pick the right team and tactics. for those saying Hewitt should be here and playing? while I wouldn't totally disagree, ive just watched brentfordv Gillingham, and the number of times Brentford players got crosses in from their left hand side which should have been prevented, showed that he has a bit to learn as yet.and I suspect that's why mm has sent him out on loan.

blues1 - be fair, what a game to judge any player on - nothing much more that a lottery of a match, played in a quagmire.

blueboy. what game were watchin. yes, pitch wasn't great but washaedly a lottery of a gam. and the pitch couldn't be used as an excuse or the crosses im aling about being allowed to be put in. that was purely down to Hewitt not closing down adequately. and im not being unfair to him neither. I like him as a player and would be happy for him to be playing in our team. just pointing out that maybe thats why mm has sent him on loan, to try and improve him a bit before he plays again for us.

great..Let's get an ageing reject from another mediocre club, on the pretense that Hewitt needs experience. We have not had 1 player who has gone out on loan who has made a career at Town. If hewitt can't make it now, he never will and we continue on our pointless loan odyssey and I thought it was bad under Paul Jewell..

Wow Mick must have searched high & low for this one to sort out the right back slot.
What a find! & he managed it in only 14 months.

Play offs hear we come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
