Marriott On Target in Second Woking Debut - Updated
Tuesday, 4th Feb 2014 17:00

Jack Marriott got his second loan spell with Woking off to a predictable start by scoring the first goal as the Cards beat Hereford United 3-0 at home in the Skrill Premier.

The 19-year-old, who rejoined Woking on loan until the end of the season last week after a spell at Gillingham was ended early, headed home his 10th Cards goal in his 10th game from close range in the 24th minute (2.30 into video below).

Keiran Murtagh added the second two minutes later and Josh Payne the third on 88, three minutes after Marriott had been subbed.

Meanwhile, Elliott Hewitt and the Gills, where he is now on loan until the end of the season, are in League One action at Stevenage this evening. Freddie Veseli's Bury are facing Oxford United at home in League Two.

I believe that MM knows exactly what he is doing
with this young talent -
He will be raring to go for us next season -
Sad that Barry Manilow will make his Portman
Road debut before him though !!

Keeping Marriott out on loan is a good idea but I'm not sure continuing to score goals at Skrill Premier level, which he has already proved he can do, helps his development much!

Its a shame the loan to Gillingham didnt work out for him but surely another League club could have been found to take him? I cannot believe there wasnt interest from a higher level club than Woking.

Think this is a perfect loan for three reasons:

1. Conference isn't that bad a level - when was the last time a team has been relegated back to the Conference immediately after going up? Most challenge at the top end of League Two and some have even got promoted again pretty quickly.

2. Michael Kightly, DJ Campbell, George Boyd and others all made the step up comfortably after a few seasons in the Conference. (And when they were a lot older)

3. Woking have been struggling - for Jack to come in and score so many goals in a struggling team is impressive no matter what league it is, and to be the main man gives valuable confidence that is so important for a striker.

Keep up the good work!

Should be here coming on from the bench instead of Frank "Spencer" Nouble.

I disagree with Pinewood. He was hardly getting on the pitch at Gillingham (ten minutes or so in a month?) He is better off playing games at Woking rather than a few minutes here and there for Town plus the odd U-21 run-out...

until he is consistently scoring goals at championship level and above the pecking order of the likes of murphy nouble and mcgoldrik (which he isn't) mick isn't gonna let him rot on the bench so this loan is ideal. it doesn't matter what league it is he is getting experience against touth hardened professionals/semi professionals and therefore learning it is worthwhile I feel for him to b e on loan scoring as boosts confidenece as well :)

why are people moaning? the goalposts he aims at are the same size championship or conference

seems like a natural goalscorer-when we had rhodes everybody kept saying hes not quite ready and he proberbly was all along-if he has the knack of being in the right place at the right time then hes golden-he has got to offer more than nouble

Feed the Marriott and he will score.

I hope Mick gives him as much of a run in the team next season as he has with Nouble this season....

Swing low, Jack Marriot.

pinewoodblueboy - agreed - absolutely ludicrous that he is getting nothing here at the moment.
Give him 2/3 games as a sub here - let's see for ourselves how he shapes up, with absolutely nothing to lose.

The goal would probably be in Jack's sights far too much for Mick's liking - and he's not a natural sideways / back passer.

Well done Jack, you are proving that MM is a very shrewd Manager and is looking after your development. Plus, what a good coverage of games by Woking.

I think it's ludicrous to expect jack to score goals here like he does at Woking...........it must be a lot easier to score goals there as they just try to put the ball in the box, they don't give any consideration to stopping the other team from playing or passing the ball sideways,
Maybe if they put him in defence for a few games he could learn how to defend like the rest of the Portman road staff then he would have enough experience to come back & get a game here.

I realise the video high-lights are only 11min 30sec long but something I noticed was Woking seem intent on playing the ball on the ground, passing to someone in the same colour shirt and moving into space to receive a pass. Maybe it's me but shouldn't the ball be in the air more than on the ground to give the opposition a fair chance of winning it back? Even on a rather heavy & sanded pitch they were able to pass the ball to feet. I could be wrong but maybe that's why young Jack is able to get some joy there and maybe both he and Taylor would be able to do something similar at Portman Road IF Mick (hoof ball) McCarthy had the wit to play them.

Woking play some quite nice football... more attacking than we see at Portman Road.

Beattiesballbag, it's called tactics, you know to win a football match? Have us within 4 points of a playoff position? Plus I don't really see McGoldrick or Murphy struggling..

And just to add, some of you lot would moan about getting the wrong amount of ice cubes in your drink, really is pathetic, don't like digging in for the points? Don't watch. Simple really

No point Marriot coming back as it would be totally alien for playing in a MM team, Woking play football not rugby league.

As Mick said he played Nouble instead of Anderson to Match Bolton who are a big team.
Yes that is a tactic! but a negative one when at home & you drop a player who has just had one of his best games for the club just to match the other team in stead of playing attacking football & letting the other team worry about you.
Guess that's why the gates are down to 15000 as people can sit at home knowing we got the result as there's nothing worth watching to waste their hard earned money on.
If you think matching the opposition every week is a good tactic & the result is all that matters, guess you won't have much problem getting a seat next season.

All I can say is I'm glad you have no bearing on decisions for the club, you can't seem to grasp where abouts we are in the league compared to the last 4 or so years, I like to see my club win, no matter how frustrating it is to watch at the time.

Alwaysablue - ..... I guess you must be a close relative of the 'Gaffer' - with those opinions.

I'm certainly glad you have no bearing on decisions for the Club - god forbid - we'd be down to -10K figures even earlier than we will now.
