Hewitt Red-Carded as Gills Lose Tuesday, 4th Feb 2014 21:50 Elliott Hewitt was sent off in the 22nd minute as his loan club Gillingham were beaten 3-1 at Stevenage in League One. The 19-year-old was dismissed for handling Boro striker Francois Zoko’s goalbound shot on the line. Zoko netted the resultant penalty to set his side on their way to victory. Gills boss Peter Taylor had no argument with the dismissal: "The red card was the correct decision." Hewitt later apologised on Twitter: "Sorry to the Gills fans and all the boys for last night, was just my instinct." The Wales U21 international, who is on loan at the Priestfield Stadium until the end of the season, will receive a one-match ban which will see him miss Saturday’s trip to Carlisle. Elsewhere, Freddie Veseli played the full 90 minutes as Bury drew 1-1 with Oxford United at Gigg Lane, despite dislocating a finger in the early stages. Last week, the Swiss U21 international’s spell with the League Two Shakers was extended until February 22nd. Bury make the long trek to Torquay on Saturday.
