Town Confirm Green Loan Signing Saturday, 8th Feb 2014 08:53 Town have confirmed the signing of Leeds United midfielder Paul Green on a 93-day loan. Yesterday evening, TWTD revealed that the Blues were close to completing a deal to sign the 30-year-old Republic of Ireland international.
Also as reported, the club say Green will be available for today’s game if the paperwork goes through before the noon deadline, and if that’s the case he will be in the squad at Barnsley.
Yesterday afternoon, TWTD revealed the Blues had renewed their interest in Green, having pulled out of a deal on the final day of the January transfer window with the Whites wanting Town to pay too great a proportion of his wages.
Speaking last Saturday, the Blues manager didn’t rule out making a new attempt to sign Green on a 93-day emergency loan, but said he would also look at other options.
Former Town man Owen Garvan was amongst those eyed, although his ongoing patellar tendinitis may have meant that move was viewed as too risky, while an agreement regarding wages may again have been difficult.
Green, who will wear the number 16 shirt, was previously linked with the Blues during Paul Jewell’s time as boss, the former Town manager having signed him during his spell at Derby.
The Pontefract-born midfielder started his career with Doncaster Rovers, joined Derby on a free transfer in the summer of 2008 and then moved on to Leeds in June 2012, signing a two-year deal. He has been capped 20 times by Ireland, scoring once.
The 5ft 9in tall Green has made 42 starts and four sub appearances during his time with Leeds, scoring four goals, one in last season's 2-0 defeat of the Blues at Elland Road.
Green hasn’t played a first team game for the Whites since October, having suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty in November but returned to training in January.

@ Jimmy86 - Or it means that the other side (i.e. Leeds) has backed down on the point of contention due to ITFC's (and McCarthy's) hard bargaining. Possibly a sign of strength, not weakness.

Good signing. Will be interesting to see. And jimmy 86, this is what Mick said when the deal broke down in the first place: “It was just getting silly in terms of the amount of money they wanted for the wages,” McCarthy said. “In the end I said ‘no, let him stay up there and sit in the stand and watch it, let them keep paying him, I'm not bothered'.” Seems to me that Mick wanted him and that Green wanted to come but the Leeds officials just wanted crazy money. The comment was directed to the club. If Leeds officials change their mind I think it makes great sense to go back. Nothing foolish about that. Sounds like Mick got what he wanted both player- and moneywise.

Lets face it he can't be any worse than Tabb, Wordsworth, Anderson or Edwards

Hope he's match fit quick.. If our squad can stay ruthless for 95 minutes rather than 85 then we are laughing!

I think this is a very good signing, we need a real ball winner so we can play the likes of hunt and Taylor in midfield

Almost every signing we make seems to underwhelm me at the time and yet we seem to steadily improve afterwards. So, yeah as others have said, in Mick we trust!

Let's face it, no wonder it broke down last weekend, Leeds didn't even know who their owner or manager was at the time!!!

All the best with your time here, personally I'm not overly encouraged by this signing too much like others we already have in midfield ala Hyam, Tabb, Skuse but no point starting off being pessimistic he might pleasantly surprise one or two of us - here's hoping!

WELCOME PAUL but cant be match fit can he would prefer to give Wordsworth a few games first afterall he is our player if Paul sits on the bench as much as Woody we wont be seeing much of him, hope Paul Taylor gets a good run today also another one of our own players who rarely gets a look in.

Very much of a muchness of what we already have at the Club, can't really see him making too much difference to us to be honest.

get sick of hearing about micks lack of financial backing-he has brought plenty of players in from what i can see including good forwards like mcgoldrick and ebanks blake.he has brought in berra as well as tabb and hunt etc whether or not they were available on a free or not is not relevant-loads of players are available on a free every year-mick has just picked players to play a certain way and results have been good but the football awful-hoof hoof hoof the sort of football nobody likes to watch and there is no future in.would not mind one bit if mick went and we followed a new direction.sometimes on here people seem like they are just auditioning for a job as micks PR officer with all the in mick we trust stuff god get a grip. good luck to paul green and keep it on the deck mate
