Williams: Team-Mates Recommended Town Tuesday, 11th Mar 2014 06:00 Crystal Palace loanee Jonny Williams has settled in well at Portman Road after favourable recommendations from ex-Town players Lewis Price, Owen Garvan and Damien Delaney. Williams sought the advice of his Selhurst Park colleagues before deciding to join Ipswich ahead of the other clubs interested in securing his services. He said: “I heard there were a few other clubs interested but I decided to choose Ipswich. I spoke to the manager and he spoke to me about the club and what his plans were for me. “I liked what I heard and I’m looking forward to playing more games. Everyone I spoke to — Lewis, Owen and Damien — said how much I would enjoy it here and they were right. “Hopefully, and ideally, I’d like to play in the centre of midfield and preferably in a three in midfield with people around me. But I don’t mind playing tucked in left or right — I can do a job there as well.” Welsh international Williams made his debut as a late substitute in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough and is very much in contention to start tonight when Town travel to meet a Yeovil side making a real fist of their battle to beat the drop. He said there was a subdued mood as the team bus made its way back to Suffolk from the North East at the weekend but reported that morale in the camp remains upbeat ahead of another long trek. Williams added: “After a defeat it’s always quite a dull atmosphere on the bus home but towards the end of the journey people start to move on, forget about it and start to focus on the next game. “We don’t have long to wait for the game at Yeovil and everyone is looking forward to that one now. When you win you usually have a whole week to enjoy it but on this occasion we are glad to have an opportunity to put things right so soon after what was a very disappointing result. After any loss you want to put things right and that will be our aim at Yeovil. “It seems like a great club, Ipswich. I’d heard that before I arrived, and also that the lads were a great bunch, as well as manager Mick McCarthy and TC. Everyone has been really welcoming and I’ve enjoyed my first week or so here.”
