Taylor and Loach Available for Transfer
Friday, 2nd May 2014 14:58

Town boss Mick McCarthy has made striker Paul Taylor and goalkeeper Scott Loach available for transfer, says Sylvan Ebanks-Blake won’t be staying beyond the end of his short-term contract and will make decisions on the futures of Stephen Hunt, Paul Green and Frazer Richardson later in the summer.

Taylor, a £1.5 million signing from Peterborough in the summer of 2012, is contracted for another year, while Loach, brought in from Watford for £150,000 earlier in that close season has another year remaining on his deal and Town will circulate their availability to other clubs.

“Paul Taylor will be going, he’s not going to play for me, so we might as well clear that up,” McCarthy confirmed. “Quite clearly, he’s not my type, he’s not going to play, he’s going to go somewhere else.

“I’ve spoken to them both, they know full well what the picture is. Loachy, to be fair, wants to play and there’s only one position.

“Tayls isn’t my type, I’m afraid, just not my style. I’ve not fallen out with him, I’ve just said to him, ‘I’ve not fallen out with you, you’ve not fallen out with me but you’re not going to play for me. You want to play, so let’s cut to the quick and do something about it. Let’s stop pissing about with it. Let’s crack on'.”

Former Wolves men Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Stephen Hunt joined on short-term deals midway through the season with the striker having rarely featured having struggled for fitness.

“Sylvan won’t be staying,” McCarthy said. “Hunty, I’ve spoken to Hunty and I won’t be doing anything with Hunty straight away.

“We’ve got about 18 of the lads who have been here all season coming back [in the summer] and I’ve got Tabby and Ando still in wide areas.

“Hunty’s been fabulous, he makes things happen, his personality’s great and I’m not writing him off completely, but I’m not just going to be doing anything with him on Monday morning.”

He says the situation is the same with loanees Paul Green and Frazer Richardson, who are out of contract with parent clubs Leeds and Middlesbrough respectively this summer.

“Exactly the same set of circumstances, but it cuts both ways,” he added. “If I was to make them all an off that wasn’t the right offer, then they’d say ‘Tell you what, we’ll hang about and see what else comes along’.

“We’re all doing it, we’re all dancing round our handbags seeing what’s going to happen and we’ll make a decision.

“But those guys, they have been outstanding. Hunty, his personality and the work he does, Frazer and Greeny, coming in on loan, Jonny Williams. Brilliant. They’ve been really good pros.”

He says there's no point the club paying wages to those players during the close season and also limiting his options: “What I don’t want to do is queer my pitch for loan deals with Premier League players.

"If you think of the quality of Jonny Williams coming in, if we could get a couple like that, not necessarily his position, wherever they might be playing, then I think that’s going to help us.”

The Town squad will be back for the start of pre-season training on June 26th and 27th to undergo tests and assessment before the preparations for 2014/15 start in earnest on the following Monday.

The Blues will again spend time at Carton House in County Kildare before playing their opening friendly against Shelbourne at Tolka Park in Dublin on Saturday 12th July.

I think we'd have all seen the Loach and Taylor news coming. It's Ebanks-Blake I feel a bit sad about. It wasn't happening for him this season admittedly, and who knows if he'd have ever been the same player he was. But then I didn't expect him to look good this season, because I thought the point was that he'd be given a chance next year once he'd got a summer to get fit again. So much for seeing a fit McGoldrick and SEB together sometime.

Loach deserves 1st team football somewhere.
Can't say i'll miss any of the others - time to clear out the deadwood.

I really dont understand some of you supporters, please tell me what has Taylor done for ITFC since he has been here apart from making headlines off the pitch?

Are we forgetting he went back out on loan for a while only to do nothing. A lot of you seem to think that because he is not Micks type of player that Mick doesn't want any creativity in the team, could it not be that his attitude stinks and he does not care about ipswich, only his pay packet, most of you are all so quick to blame Mick.

In reality Mick has done an amazing job with a very small squad, and yest it has not been the prettiest of football at times but for me this season was always about growth and improving, making us a coherent team again, players that want to play for the club manager and each other, to have been fighting for playoffs at the end is an incredible achievement. Have some of you forgotten what we had to put up with not so long ago, i mean come on last season we looked down and out, and Mick got us out of that.

Try supporting the club and the manager for a change, we havent even brought any one in yet and already some of you are out with the "Mick Out Chants" im sorry but its pathetic.

Real shame about Taylor. I had high hopes for him, and he has shown flashes of match winning brilliance, but not enough times, and he obviously doesn't fit in Mick's vision of the team/ sort of player/ character that he wants. I trust Mick, there must be some issues there. Good luck Taylor and thanks.

@dford7

I can see where you are coming from, it is clear to see he has something about him but that is not enough to keep him at a club if he is disruptive or has a bad attitude, now im not saying that is definitely the case but i trust in Mick because he has proved we should trust him and in this decision i will do the same.

I feel the same about Loach, i dont think there is much between them but Gerken has the game time and Mick obviously trusts him more, i dont see it as a big loss.

I got slated for saying Taylor wasn't MMs type at start of season when he pushed him out on loan rather than playing him blaming fitness . Sums up MMs football style again raves about a player like Tabb , plays a player like Nouble over and over again but doesn't give the likes of Taylor or Jet any kind of consistent run in the team . To those saying he didn't prove himself enough when given the chance when did Nouble and Tabb who were always picked ?
Stuartbrett are you serious ? Comparing goals scored Nouble and Taylor , trying looking at minutes on pitch to goals scored ,Nouble is shocking .
Rushing to renew the season ticket with more news like this , get big defenders who can kick it hard and big attackers to try and head it towards goal tactic A, tactic B bore the opposition to death with our brand of football and try an nick a set piece with all the big men .

Taylor was less consistent than JET! He has never scored many goals in his career yet Jewell signed him as a striker. We were only supposed to be getting him as part of a deal to bring George Boyd in and somehow we ended taking this little trouble maker for way too much money in a fit of desperation from Jewell. I'm glad he's going.
Anyone who thinks Mick is being completely honest with you saying he's not fallen out with him and that Taylor isn't his kind of player and Tabb is his kind of winger - are not very observant. Taylor cost a bomb and is still young enough to command a fee. We wouldn't get anything for Tabb nor would anyone want him, so why make a player we have to keep, unhappy?
Loach isn't good enough but then neither is Gerken in my opinion so I agree with those saying get someone else, like Henderson, in.

Some silly comments on here. Mick doesn't dislike creative players, but he doesn't like disruptive players who can't be bothered to do what's required of them. Taylor is a decent player, but has a very poor attitude and rightly in my opinion it doesn't impress Mick. Is it too much to ask that Mick wants team players?

Personally pleased that Loach will be leaving as disappointed when we signed him. Gerken is not the best, but at least he leaves his line.

Not surprised by SEB. Hasn't scored a goal and nowhere near back to his best. Frees up wages for a new signing.

Richardson would be a good addition, but Green too similar to Skuse and Hyam, so hope he departs. Hunt is an interesting one. Of late he's not been great so could do better with those wages.

In my opinion this is poor on both fronts. Am disappointed but not suprised about taylor, it's clear as day, mick just doesn't like him. He isn't your type of player mick, because he is an attack minded, creative player who looks to run at people and make things happen. He might not conform to your ultra rigid style of play and is more than the workman like players you favour.

Also disappointed for loach, because town fan aside he has been treated poorly by both jewell and now mick. He is certainly no worse than gerken, who has indeed made more mistakes than loach has this season, but mick nailed his colours to the mast and backed gerken, where as he didnt back loach when he should have either. Dropping loach after the bore draw blackpool game was really poor management and proves that his mantra of "you play well you keep your place" only applies to certain players. I just hope ul be bringing in better than what your letting go mick

Reasons Taylor is out -

His attitude off the pitch
Greed on the pitch.

I thought SEB was worth keeping on, from what little we've seen of him, but probably wage related reasons for him to be going,..

Loach, good backup but wants to play, simple as.

Jas0999 at least gerken leaves his line: what like against bournemouth when he should have come but didnt and got done with the over head kick, after it was headed up into the air?? Or against wigan at home where he was flat footed?? Gerken is no better than loach, its just mick signed gerken so has obv backed him. Gerken doesn't command his area any better than loach did!!!

We will never know if Taylor was any good or not? He was never given enough game time. After his serious injury he needed a run of at least 6 games to get back to full sharpness and match fitness. This never happened. Either MM doesnt rate him as a player or doesnt rate him as a person? I know nothing about him as a person but as a player he definately has potential. You cannot dispute that MM saved us from relegation last season and took us close to the play offs this time, but the entertainment was at best just above average and often quite awful! MM's teams have to work hard first and foremost and he will sacrifice flair for the work ethic, I think us supporter will just have to accept it whilst MM is still the manager.

It is clear Taylor has an attitude problem..bad apple etc Loach is sus on shots across his body and clearly MM is looking for a top keeper and use Gerken as his number 2. EB has not proved his fitness and is living on past glories..keeping options open on others but MM is clearly looking to freshen it up. Dont forget we have Elliot Hewitt to come back..if given the chance then he could be very classy . Alex Henshall may yet get his chance as Steven Hunt while a good pro etc etc lacks the ability to get away from his opponent now..Green is a solid citizen who would do a good job for us ..dont forget Jack Marriott if he has got it MM will stick him in during next season.
I am glad MM has got the balls to act now so we and the players know where we stand.
I dont like MM style on the pitch but I admire his style off it .

Loneleyblues right, if Mick hated flair players he would never have brought Jonny Williams in. Will have to go with him re Taylor - shame cause we played good on the ground stuff when he was given a game. But if we can get another Prem quality midfield player like Williams on loan that would do me, plus a quality wide player with alot more pace than Hunt. Mick knows what he needs for the team to push on from here and he has loads of contacts in the game which must be a big help. Best wishes to SEB for the future - we all thought he would be playing regularly from early January but were no doubt too optimistic.

TractorClarke - the point is Taylor was never ever given a run of games in the side to even get to prove himself. All fans want to see their most expensive signing play to see what he can do. He faired well in the handful of games he had before his injury.

And this bad attitude nonsense is completely made up. Where's it come from? The post above says there's no bad attitude but he's been labelled as having one. Why? Because he got in a scrap with some bouncer in a bar? I think he's always looked lively when he's come on and given he's clearly one of the more naturally gifted players in a team of work horses he'd have every right to have the hump.

Good luck to him but if we're going to get rid of players like Taylor and get more in like Tabb, next season will be very, very uninspiring.

Jimmy86 - agree Gerken isn't the best, but he does generally leave his line, but does also flap. He's not good enough. But sorry still better than Loach who never leaves his line. My opinion.

SEB just didnt get fit - he had plenty of chance to get himself in shape but never really looked at it
Taylor has ability but was never in the frame and only featured when injuries happened
Loach want first team and we can get better out there
Hunt has not really done much , cant beat a player and as for the other 'winger' Tabb !! No thanks
Got some rebuilding to do

The other week everyone was calling for Mick to play Taylor but now as soon as he is transfer listed everyones saying things like "he was inconsistant" and "hasn't scored" he's hardly played, I'd personally have Taylor over Nouble, but with 2 strikers going and 1 coming back from a bad injury I sure hope Mick has replacements in mind and that Evans backs him as I believe Mick would spend it wisely, and we could get a solid play-off finish next season, unfortunately I reckon Cresswell will leave, hopefully for a decent price and would like to see Hewitt come back in at RB next season as Chambers has done well and is a good captain but it shows against fast wingers that he's not a RB.

As for people wanting to bring in henderson, thanks, but no thanks, when he was here we had the same problem in the goalkeeper area, henderson wasn't streets ahead of loach and was never committed to the club, his distribution was poor and he often slowed things down too much, we needa top quality goalkeeper who is a clear number 1, the difference between loach and gerken is minimal

Trouble is we see Taylor for a short time if selected ,what doe's he do mon - fri doe's he train hard mix with the other players stay on to improve arrive early or dont he care out on the lash if its the latter which who knows then Mick IS RIGHT we had a idiot in Chopra dont want anymore.

Some of the comments on here are ludicrous - I must be supporting a different team to some of you...

Taylor was, to his credit, quick, good with the ball, and willing to run at people. But whilst these are positives, football is a numbers game, and it's a business. The fact he has already had a number of disciplinary problems in his career, I'd rather him move on, and take his poor goalscoring record (1 goal in 16 appearances this year) with him. Sure, some of the others in the squad haven't been much more prolific (whilst some love him, "Big Frank" has only netted 3 times in 25 apps), but Taylor clearly won't take kindly to Marriott being ahead of him in the pecking order, so why not move him on and recoup some money for him, which could pay for a decent goalscorer to partner McGoldrick. On that note, good to see MM supporting the youth talent, rather than selling them at the first opportunity e.g. Rhodes, Billy Clarke (remember him?), Bowditch & Wickham.

Comments that Mick doesn't like attacking football are just stupid. MM and TC like hardworkers who are team orientated, and if Taylor isn't fitting that model, then so be it - I'd rather see him moved on (I still applaud Town for shifting Chopra off the books) and get someone in who'll wear the shirt with pride (or as much as a "loyal" footballer can).

If we bought a new player in the summer and by Christmas, he'd only scored once in 16 appearances, we'd be saying MM had made a poor decision buying him etc, so why is it any different that he's on the books at the moment? As for the 'wingers', don't get me started. Let's pick our system and go with it, but Anderson looks fine on one wing, but Tabb or Hunt are far from the answer. I'd be happy with Murph on the left, and a proper goalscorer up front with McGoldrick. Look how Ings & Vokes, or Vardy & Nugent have torn up the division.

Keep the faith, and let's back MM and TC - this was the closest we've come to going up in years, so get behind them!
