Terrier Ward Linked
Sunday, 18th May 2014 12:17

Town and Wolves are reportedly showing interest in Huddersfield Town winger or striker Danny Ward.

According to the Sunday People the Terriers are set to offer the 22-year-old new terms with the Blues and Wolves both eyeing his situation. Ward’s current contract is up this summer but Huddersfield have an option to extend that deal.

Ward, who has previously said he is happy with the West Yorkshire side and is keen to stay, was a schoolboy with hometown club Bradford before joining the Leeds youth set-up and then moving on to Bolton.

While with the Trotters he made two senior sub appearances and spent time on loan with Swindon, Coventry and Huddersfield. He made his move to the Terriers a permanent one in the summer of 2011 for a fee believed to be in the region of £1 million.

Ward, who is naturally left-sided and 5ft 11in tall, was a regular in Mark Robins’s side during 2013/14 and scored 10 goals.

Elsewhere, the Scottish Sun reports that AFC Bournemouth are the first club to make a move for St Mirren midfielder Kenny McLean, who the Blues have been eyeing for some while.

The 22-year-old Scotland U21 international, who is also believed to be interesting Tottenham, Everton, Stoke and Leeds amongst many others, is out of contract this summer but would cost around £350,000 in compensation.

Meanwhile, Town owner Marcus Evans is joint-143rd in this year’s Sunday Times Rich List with his wealth estimated at £700 million, up £75 million on last year’s equivalent.

The Sunday Times Rich List is based on "identifiable wealth"; land, property, publicly-quoted shares and other assets, but not bank accounts to which they don’t have access. Other estimates elsewhere have previously put Evans’s wealth nearer to or above £1 billion.

Same old same old. Doesn't matter about ME wealth. The fact is we are £70m+ in debt and still running at a loss every year, so only adding to the debt every year. How many businesses can sustain that, yet we expect more money spent despite falling revenue from lower attendences? Where is your reality?

There's on thing having money and another thing spending it wisely - think we should know that better than most other Championship clubs.

I think this is a no goer to be honest, MM keeps his cards to his chest and as we know it don't believe it till it happens. Think this is just agents drumming up interest to get the player a better deal at his current club.

Spoken to a good mate of mine who's a Hudd season ticket holder. He says he wouldn't be overly bothered to lose him - decent back up and good when he sets his mind to it but generally lazy. So he doesn't really sound like a MM type of player.
The other point he made, which is the other side of the coin, it "look at what a new club did for Scott Arfield...."

Ward & Mclean are two very exciting prospects. Pleased if there is something in these Links then we are in for these players. Both would make a big difference to our very average Midfield at present.

@BtreeBlueBlood - Luke Shaw never played for Bournemouth, so not sure where you got that 20% fee from...

@theinbetweener

He means Lallana, not Shaw. Bournemouth get 20% of any fee Southampton receive for him so they're looking at earning around £4m for him, if he leaves.

Anybody know (sorry off topic) if Leicester and QPR are going to be fined for not adhering to the FFP rules? - there's us scraping around again for free transfers this summer which makes the mind boggle, hopefully Derby will beat QPR in the play-off final.
