Town Introduce Matchday Ambassadors
Friday, 20th Jun 2014 17:28

Town are introducing a team of 'matchday ambassadors' for the 2014/15 season, fulfilling a role similar to the games makers at the 2012 London Olympics. The ambassadors are amongst a number of initiatives Town say they are looking to introduce ahead of the new campaign.

The volunteers’ responsibilities will include meeting and greeting fans at the perimeter of the stadium, increasing the assistance available to supporters requiring directions or advice and increasing the interaction with younger fans in build-up to games.

Town are hoping to replicate the success of other Football League clubs who have previously recruited ambassador teams.

The Blues are looking to recruit enough ambassadors to ensure that there is a strong presence at each home league and cup match. For full details and to apply, visit the club site. The closing date for applications is Monday 7th July.

......... a welcome initiative would be to sign a few PLAYERS - otherwise we will need more that a few 'Ambassadors' to bring the crowd in ....... !!

Ah ha the hype has already started about getting the crowds in and getting the crowds going! How about signing a few better players, playing attractive football and not being so flaming negative on the pitch and boring supporters to death. If the club do that, the rest will take care of itself. ITFC have already bored 2 of my family who will not be returning next year. They have both said to be entertained they will go and watch Needham Market or Bury Town, cheaper and more exciting.

How about reducing the cost of getting into Portman Road? That would be far more effective than the corporate notion of a bunch of "ambassadors."

The key word is "Volunteers" so they'll get no more remuneration than a match day "One Free drinks voucher" for their time and issued a club style jacket, so no doubt the amount of match day stewards will thereby also be less... I think you'd have to be slightly idiotic to apply for something you'd be out of pocket for when others around you are getting paid, i.e. Stewards and Turnstile operators.

Less paid stewards so the club will save miniscule amounts overall.

Are we really this strapped for cash because if we are we are in big trouble?

I hope they at least get a free ticket to the game and a couple of drinks!

The season has not started and already we have morons moaning about the club and any initiatives they come up with. Money is not the problem, if you are. So called Ipswich fanatic buy a season ticket over 12 months and it will cost you as little as £17 per match.....simples

it doesn't matter whether there are ambassadors or not, when you're in your seat it's mid table Mick's hoof ball you have to sit through.

my god. why are people criticising the club for this? just typical of some fans of this club. pathetic. this will not mean less paid stewards, who basically work inside the ground. these people will be outside helping those people who need it. as the story states, we're also not the 1st club to try this so it clearly works elsewhere. people say the club should do things to improve the overall matchday experience yet when just 1 thing is put in place they are lambasted by some of you. of course we need to sign players, and play more attractive football(hopefully), bit that's a totally separate issue to this iniative. and yes, im quite certain that these people would get tickets for the match.

As the ITFC "COMPLEX" is so huge I can see we need people to show all of our "new" fans how to enter the stadium. Absolutely pointless idea, embarassing almost.

I can see how many of the fans who have been going for a number of years are going to react when someone asks them if they know where they are going!

Just don't see any point in it whatsoever!

triumphblue. there are plenty of people who attend games for the 1st time, as well as away fans who may want directions to certain parts of the ground or maybe even where they can go to eat or drink, or how to get into town prior to going to match, so why is this a pointless idea. not everyone who visits the ground has been going there for years. and therefore would find this more than helpful to them.

Has someone found an old Simon Clegg "To do List"?

TriumphBlue added 09:46 - Jun 21
you are living in a dreamworld blues1, consistent low crowds for the last 5 years at least points to very few people who have only just discovered ITFC....

blues1 added 09:54 - Jun 21
no triumphblue. despite lower crowds there are still people who attend for 1st time, plus the away fans also who may need help. but you are just typical of some on here who just want to find any excuse to criticise this club. and no, I don't just praise for the sake of it, im quite happy to criticise if the club deserves it. just cannot see why ne1 would find anything to moan about on this. if it works then great, if not then what have the club lost in trying it?

zumthor added 10:25 - Jun 21
Why doesn't the club match it's ticket prices to it's league position? Mid table Championship not Premiership.

blues1: not moaning for the sake of it at all, just really don't see the point!... A "Helper" asks me if I know where I am going?! Yes my dear, 31 years in the same seat, I think I know where I am going thank you... Just don't see the point in it. The Olympics needed it yes, but not ITFC.

carlisleaway added 13:41 - Jun 21
Triumph Blue, how long have you been attending matches at Portman Road ?? If you are so clever let us hear your views on what or how you can improve matters at PR, not about the playing staff or cost of match day tickets.

TriumphBlue added 14:24 - Jun 21
read above carlisle, 31 seasons so far.... for me football is about playing staff and players, tactics, fitness, staying injury free, picking up the right loan players, etc... not someone showing me how to get to my seat when I have been in the same seat for 31 years!

Zumthor - if you don't like the football on offer, that helped us escape from the drop 2 seasons ago, and nearly got us to the playoffs on a shoestring, don't watch it, and stop moaning

bring_back_Wickham added 16:44 - Jun 21
Zumthor - no need to be putting 'mid-table Mick' into every sentence. Perhaps you'd like to go back to 'relegation Paul' and 'team-destroyer Roy'.

The negativity on this site is shocking.

fishboy ........... try understanding the difference between NEGATIVITY and REALITY.

A few others could take note too.

As for 'bring back Wickham' - I think you've totally missed the point - ALL three are the type of Managers we do not need if this Club is to go furter forward.

blueboy1981 added 17:11 - Jun 21
..... apologies - missed out the 'h' - before someone points it out.

So what is reality then? A negative prediction on a season that doesn't start for 6 weeks?
