McGoldrick Missing From 18 at Derby
Saturday, 30th Aug 2014 14:09

Town striker David McGoldrick is missing from the 18 facing Derby County at the iPro Stadium this afternoon following reports that he is close to an £8 million move to Premier League Leicester City.

McGoldrick didn't travel with the rest of the squad yesterday having picked up a dead leg in training on Thursday, however, given the interest from the Foxes it seems unlikely that the Blues would have risked the 26-year-old if he had picked up a knock of any extent.

Elsewhere in the side, Mick McCarthy springs a few surprises by handing Jonny Parr his Blues debut and Teddy Bishop and Kevin Bru their full debuts with Tyrone Mings dropping to the bench and Cole Skuse missing from the squad having been ill overnight. Elliott Hewitt is also missing, having picked up a knock.

The Blues seem likely to match Derby's formation with Murphy the lone striker and Bru, Bishop and Hyam forming a central midfield three and Jay Tabb and Paul Anderson on the left and right respectively.

Derby: Grant, Christie, Keogh, Buxton, Forsyth, Eustace, Bryson, Hendrick, Ward, Russell, Martin. Subs: Roos, Shotton, Whitbread, Hughes, Dawkins, Best, Mascarell.

Town: Gerken, Parr, Chambers (c), Smith, Berra, Bru, Bishop, Hyam, Anderson, Tabb, Murphy. Subs: Bialkowski, Mings, Bajner, Henshall, McQueen, Clarke, Nouble.

I had hoped all week to Gerken and Tabb dropped and Henshall start but instead Mings and McGoldrick out while Gerken and Tabb start. Mega tough baptism for Bishop and no clue in pre-season that he was ready for a debut away to top side like Derby but Mick sees him in training so hopefully he will shine.

I hope bishop and Bru do well and wish them luck. But seriously, this demonstrates how small a squad we have. The options on the bench are weak and poor. Can't Evans and McCarthy see that we need several new players?! Win, lose or draw, we really need to strengthen by the close of the window. If we sell our best player, it will be inexcusable not to spend money on players, emergency loans will not suffice.

I think we all know why mcgoldrick is not in... shame but murphy coped last season... and if he goes I bet someone is already lined up (its micks way)
if you think about it, mick was covering his back during the week saying 'any decisions to sell will be down to ME" so I bet this has been on the cards for a while... also prob why Marriot has been shipped out to grab some last minute experience...

also, I can see 1 of either tonny Smith or Berra going... we have 3 solid CBs (chambers being the other) and with hewit and parr both capable of filling the RB spot...

but I bet we will be surprised come Monday, and who knows, David might ACTUALLY have a dead leg....

Don't panic, we've got Connor Salmon, lol. Another season of mediocre dross to look forward to then. The money we are charged to watch very ordinary players is a disgrace.

With a lot of our own fans slagging off his dodgy knees then maybe with any luck he will fail the medical

Pity the fans at derby!
Big hats off to anyone that has travelled as they are braver than me :)

Obviously some of you have never had a real dead leg, not saying that's the only reason he's not in the 18 but a dead leg would easily keep a player from playing for a few days

If I was mcGoldrick I would've jumped at the chance to leave a club that seems to have no ambition whatsoever to move forward. If we don't sign any one (not a loan) before the window closes if this deal goes through, then the little hope I had left for this season in gone. So frustrating knowing last season that we were only a few additions away from being proper challengers for the playoffs. And now I wouldn't be surprised to see us being contenders for the drop. Thought McGoldrick would be the only player on this team that we would never think about selling whatever the price.

The sad thing about this is, for me and a lot of other fans DM is the only player that we feel can actually score from outside the box, he is our only creative spark that looks like doing something... Losing cresswell and DM is going to hurt us..

anyway lets go against Derby (but if i was being honest Im sure we are not going to get anything)

£8m for McGoldrick would be good business for the club and good for McGoldrick as well. He deserve a chance in the premier league and how can we stand in his way? It's actually motivating for the players to see him and Cressy moving on and up. And when we got McGoldrick where did he come from and who got him? No reason why Mick can't do it again. It's actually a good sign that premier clubs are willing to pay millions for our players. Recent exits have seen players let go off because they are not good enough and too expensive. This is actually a sign we are moving in the right direction. Mick wants to get some premier league youngsters in with perhaps a view to a permanent move later.

Just had to console my 8 year old lad who's been sobbing for half hour that his hero didsy is going. I wish the powers that run our club would think about the fans for a change. Thanks for ruining our weekend, chaps!

As soon as I read that McGoldrick was possibly going I said that if there was truth in it he would not be playing today and that our wonderful club would dish us another lie by saying he'd took a knock in training, it turns out that I was spot on, (they're so predictable), Taylor and Mc'Goldrick gone ! well that's the flair gone, carry on with the hoof ball then I'm afraid, this club treats us like mugs, I have little respect for those who would treat their life blood (ie. us) in such a contemptuous manner, I challenge both the owner and the Manager to confirm whether or not they want ITFC to be promoted to the Premiership, I have serious doubts.

8m, probably spread out over 3 years... It looks like our losses will be significantly lower this year. Yawn.

Experimental Midfield but was McCarthy's hand forced by Skuse being ill? - as a few others have mentioned not sure what Mings did wrong the last game to be dropped, why doesn't Mick play two 'proper' full backs with Mings and Parr both playing and drop Chambers to the bench?

Fancy Mick playing a 4-5-1 formation away from home!!

Hoof that ball right up the field and lets try and win the 50/50 balls ..MM team talk over. Surprised McG sisn't go 3 weeks ago. I knew this was on the cards. Terrible decision to drop Mings how to destroy a top performers confidence. MM does not like the young talent which is why he shipped out Marriott. Sad times at the club.

Well if the McG rumours are true and it is extremely likely that they are this will be a really bad weekend for the fans but I'll bet Evans regards this as one of his best weekends for a long while irrespective of whether we win, draw or most likely lose.

Jeez people keep going on about how Murphy stood in last season!
Yes, he tries but there is no way we can rely on him to produce the goods week after week as he is so lacking in quality.

Glad to see Parr, Bishop and Bru all given starts to show what they can do. Unfortunately Bart and Henshall should have been starting instead of tweedle dee and tweedle dum but we can't have it all. Skuse out of squad thankfully. As for Didzy looks like he's a gonner which is depressing

I would consider mid-table to be a realistic target.
