McCarthy Hints at Changes Monday, 27th Oct 2014 06:00 Boss Mick McCarthy has hinted that he’s considering changes of personnel ahead of next week’s game at bottom-of-the-table Blackpool.
Although the Blues have lost only once in 10 matches, Saturday’s 2-2 home draw with Huddersfield stretched Town’s winless run to five.
Reflecting on Saturday’s game, in which the Terriers came back from two goals down with 20 minutes remaining, McCarthy said: “There’s nothing I can do about it now except have a look and see, and there’ll be other lads who’ll be wanting to play.”
Tyrone Mings will be available again after his one-match ban, while Jonny Williams and Kevin Bru missed Saturday’s game with minor niggles and should be back for the visit to Bloomfield Road.
The likes of Stephen Hunt, Paul Anderson and Jay Tabb have been in and out of the team this season, while Cameron Stewart, Darren Ambrose and Jack Collison will be hoping to come into McCarthy's thoughts.
Ambrose, who has twice appeared as a late sub, and Collison and Stewart, who are yet to appear in the first-team matchday 18, could be amongst those in action when a Town XI take on Hampton and Richmond in a friendly on Tuesday. Today's scheduled U21 game at Cardiff has been postponed.
Ultimately, McCarthy saw his side holding on for the draw as amongst the few positives he could take from Saturday’s game: “We got a point, we could have lost it. When they equalised, they were on top and we’ve had to scrap it out.
“We got the point, as much as I’m disappointed that we’ve shipped a two-goal lead. And we got a couple of goals from defenders.”
Premier League scouts were again at Portman Road en masse despite Mings’s absence with Teddy Bishop the reason for their visit on this occasion, according to one of Sunday’s tabloids.
Speaking shortly after Bishop broke into the side, McCarthy said that scouts would already be well aware of the academy product's first-team impact.

Losing patience, losing 6 points in 3 of the last 4 games, we really need a strong convincing performance against Blackpool but honestly I see an upset... Also pjewellisagod- never be a football manager, the most ridiculous team I have ever seen,

Dalianwasexciting- about Collison and Bru. Both coming on and given our energy levels needed. Was in the crowd at PR and team ran badly out of steam. Pjewellisagod- Bajner needs more time, he's not ready yet. Sammon looked good against Huddersfield. Think Ipswich121 has our strongest selection but agree many of our first teamers need a rest. knackered players is never good. We seem to have forgotten McDonnell, who is believed to be as good as Bishop. Might be a good opportunity to give him a shot. By the sounds of things our two trainees (ace and Bellamy) have really impressed in training. Sotd78- agree we need players to system, but we do need a fully fit side against Blackpool. Anyone who was at the Huddersfield match knows our main players BADLY need a rest.

GERKEN PARR CHAMBO BERRA MINGS COLLISON HYAM WILLIAMS STEWART DIDSY MURPHY I think this would be so creative! With hyam clearing up the pieces! Got to be worth a go!

Naa I agree absolutely. All we had was the left back missing and we had to change three positions. I feel sorry for Chambers, he's not a full back and he doesn't like playing there either. His partnership with Berra has been outstanding so far this season so what was wrong with bringing Smith straight in as a replacement for Mings.

last time Mick made changes, they were needed (after naarich) and they worked (8 game unbeaten run starting with Derby away). 5 games without a win and he's suggesting there may be changes again. I would say he knows what he's doing and gives things a chance once he does make changes. i'm with those who doubt Gerken, but could we afford anyone better? the answer is no or we would have got Henderson back in but couldn't afford his wages and he went to Charlton. For whoever said we should have got Stockdale - yes he made some good saves this weekend but has looked pretty dodgy in every other game! Gerken just really needs some coaching on coming off his line - that would take him from a good keeper who has some doubters to a great keeper who has none. Hoping Stewart is fit soon and would be great if Henshall showed mick in training and u21 games that he's ready to play and start. can you imagine those 2 bombing down the wings with mings and parr overlapping and getting balls in to Murph and DM? we're spoilt for choice in central midfield - I would expect some to move on in Jan or the end of the season.

Chambers and Berra, if you can' see that. I don't think you know what you're doing.

I wonder why Charlton can afford Hendersons wages and we cannot ???????

we need to play a direct winger who will at a defence.no team like a player running at them.always a chance of a penalty.we didnt like it sat

Let's get Mings and Parr back in their full back roles they are accustomed to firstly, like to see Skuse and Sammon rested and see Henshall and Collison wide and Williams tucking in behind Murphy and McG. Cameron on the bench maybe for some game time second half. Blackpool are far from world beaters and if you are going to experiment somewhat this is the game to do it.

really do not see what changing the goalkeeper would achieve. gerken did nothing wrong on Saturday, in fact he made a terrific save 1st half to keep us ahead, so cant see why he needs to be dropped. or are people still judging him on the forest match? sammon wasn't great against Huddersfield or Cardiff(but then, who was). but had been playing well. you could just as easily drop mcgoldrick, or even murphy if you are judging players purely on Saturdays performance. fortunately mm wont. the constant criricism on here of tabb and Anderson is getting boring. mings only the other week praised tabb for his contribution to him being able to get forward by doing his defensive duties when he does. having said that, I do agree that bringing them on purely to try and hold on to a lead is not the answer. if we coiuld do so itd be fine but recent history says we're not capable of doing so. really don't see the point of either ambrose or collision being here if theyre not gonna be given a chance so surely Saturday, they should be given a go, even if from the bench. and some width and pace in midfield. if we don't change the way we play I can actually see us losing a game we should win fairly comfortably. lets hope mm can see what all of us seem to be able to, and until now, he seems to have been totally blind to

I ain't at Playford road everyday unlike mm and I ain't as clued up as him either, but I was watch bajner warm up before the Blackburn game and I thought he was the best finisher we have albeit I like Murphy.

When i have seen Bajner play he has not got a clue.

By the looks of things Jose Riga has gone, which makes Blackpool there for the taking, need to take this opportunity to get our season back on track after the past 5 games, as people have already mentioned we have no one coming of the bench to change games, Tabb, Hunt and whoever else comes on seems to lose us the game not win it

Need pace in the team. Need to drop Sammon and under no circumstances should Skuse and Hyam start in the same team.

It is up to Henshall and Stewart to work hard and force their way into MM reckoning. From what I have seen watching these players they need to realise this. Hard work is the way to get into MM's team selection.

Our problem at the moment is we're conceding too many goals and that's a result of playing a more attacking 433 with the fullbacks playing higher up the field. Would like to see us experiment with a 352 system bringing Smith back into the side and shoring up the defence when Mings and Parr push forward.
