Hewitt's Month With U's Ends With Defeat
Sunday, 2nd Nov 2014 15:32

Elliott Hewitt’s one-month loan with Colchester came to an end following yesterday’s 2-1 home defeat to Port Vale in League One.

Speaking after Town’s victory at Blackpool, Blues boss Mick McCarthy said he could opt not to extend the Wales U21 international's spell with the U's with first-choice right-back Jonny Parr having missed the trip to Bloomfield Road with a groin injury.

“Possibly,” he said. “I haven’t given that too much thought. I’ll give it thought in the week. I’ve spoken to Tony Humes, I told him if I need him, I’ll bring him back. If I don’t, I won’t.”

Colchester are keen to keep the 20-year-old, who has made six appearances during his month with the North Essex side. If Town do extend his spell the former Macclesfield man will be available for recall at 24 hours' notice.

Freddie Veseli was amongst the unused subs for Vale at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Elsewhere, Paul Taylor was subbed at half-time as Rotherham lost 3-0 at home to Middlesbrough in the Championship. Anthony Wordsworth wasn’t in the 18.

Frank Nouble played the full 90 minutes as Coventry drew 2-2 at Leyton Orient in League One.

In the Vanarama Conference, Jack Marriott came on in the 53rd minute for Woking as they drew 0-0 at Braintree, for whom Town first-year pro centre-half Omar Sowunmi played the full 90 minutes.

Young midfielder Jack Willbye played the first 78 minutes of Bury Town’s 3-1 home defeat to Hendon in the FA Trophy first round.

We need Hewitt back here, our defence has very little cover...

Interesting to note that out of the 6 players on loan only 2 played full game, whilst two didn't even feature.
Definitely feel that Elliott Hewitt should be brought back.Even if loan is extended is only down the road;so can now be brought back at short notice.
Would even like to see him in place of Luke Chambers in right back position.

if the deal is extended, do we know if he'll be able to play in the FA cup first round for them?

I think we need Hewitt back as cover for us as in recent games Smith has had to deputise for three separate defenders. He is more than capable, but it's just him as cover.

Interesting that Taylor was subbed at half time. Hasn't excelled recently has he?

Paul Taylor subbed at half time, Verselli not on the pitch. Perhaps Mick knows a thing or 2 after all? Not many points being proven by Tayls are there?

oscarwhiting, even if Hewitt's loan is extended I think Colchester would still need to obtain permission for us to play in any Cup ties as the loaning club may make a decision of they want their player cup-tied.

SO what has happened to Taylor and Wordsworth ??? who set Rotherham alight in the beginning of the loan,!! now sorry to hear that the flame has extinguished !!!!!!!
But they are still our players,, and I could not see them getting in to our current team.

He should really come back, at least until Parr is fully fit. I would play him at RB tomorrow, with Chambers moving back into the centre.
