Bart: Strike Pair Championship's Best
Friday, 7th Nov 2014 11:00

Goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski has echoed boss Mick McCarthy's recent claim that Town possess the Championship’s best strike partnership in Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick.

Murphy’s double in the 2-1 midweek home win over Wolves took his tally for the season to 10, including six in his last five, while McGoldrick has weighed in with a further five.

Given that Murphy’s 13-goal haul last season was a career best-ever total, he is on schedule to rewrite the record books, but it is the quality of his goals that has led the Republic of Ireland international to recently confess that he has never played better.

Bialkowski said: “I have looked at all the strikers in the Championship and I cannot find a better pair than Murph and Didz. Believe me, apart from their records this season, I also have to face them in training so I know just how good they are, both individually and together.

“Look at Murph’s display the other night against Wolves when he scored two terrific goals. He is a great finisher and fully deserved them. Him and Didzy up front, they are showing they are the very best around at this level.

“I have known Didzy for some time. We were at Southampton together so I have always known what he is all about. He is also a great finisher and the thing about them both is that they cover a lot of ground working hard for the team.”

That point was amply illustrated against Wolves on Tuesday when Murphy’s 14th minute pass went astray and he immediately raced back from the halfway line to put in a saving tackle just as Bakary Sako must have thought he was going to fire Wolves ahead.

Bialkowski also believes that having the in-form duo as colleagues is benefiting him and the other goalkeepers at Portman Road in a number of ways, adding: “They are full of confidence now and it can only be good for them and the team. We know at the back that even if we do go behind we have someone up front who can score a goal in every game.

“The other bonus is that we are training alongside the very best in Murph and Didz so it is good for me and the other keepers. It is good for us to be facing them every day in training because it tests us to the max and it helps to make us better.”

Don't get me wrong, I think McGoldrick and Murphy are brilliant and Murphy in particular has been outstanding this year however if every striker in the league is fit and playing well I thinks Watfords pair of Deeney and Vyjdra are equally as good if not better.

With 'Dazzyl' Murphy in the form of his life McGoldrick will really need to step it up to compete. I still thinks he looks a bit unfit and I don't think his positioning in the recent 4-3-3s has really helped - against Huddersfield all three strikers were doing the same job and running into similar spaces. I think Dids is much better playing in the gap between midfield and the striker where he can drag defenders out of shape with his dribbling, play in the through balls and lash those long shots we all know he loves.. That's my two cents anyway..

Big Foot Blue..... In the words of Harry Hill, as we're playing them tomorrow, there's only one way to find out....

Not bad considering Mick didn't pay a penny for them!!! But as we predominantly field a front 3 then they aren't currently functioning as a traditional partnership. I would agree that Watford's front 2 are up there too, will be interesting to see how the best CB pairing in the league fair against them tomorrow.

The Championship has some fascinating partnerships: Rhodes-Gestede, Bamford-Tomlin, Wells-Holt (still hate him though), Cox-Murray, Macheda-Le Fondre. Then fans of Fulham will be disappointed that Rodallega and McCormack haven't hit the heights yet.

How many times are we going to hear this story from different sources? third or fourth time already this season.
Personally I feel Watford might have the best striking duo but if McG can find his feet again then that might be arguable.

TimmyH must be some element of truth in it so??
They are in a rich vein of form and it' s driven us to the top end of the table. I'd like to see Berra, Chambo and Smith continue to cause set piece threats but also for maybe one or two midfielders chipping in every now and then.
But for now, our strikers are doing exactly what they supposed to - banging goals in on a regular basis - and it's a great way to be.
Fancy Town for a 2-1 victory tomorrow. COYB!

bohslegend - maybe a touch of bias from our own players? but as I said if McG can capture the same form as last season than yes we have a case, but lets leave it at that (saying that somebody else will be saying it next week). Not being negative about our players just that this story is getting a tad milked.

Its a hard one to judge. I would say in current form they are the best.
Strikers are part of the team and a good team can make strikers look better!
The best strikers generally have good players playing behind them creating chances and space for the forwards. A settled team on form helps to create the confidence the strikers need to help play to their best.

I think Murph and DIdz are mentally very strong and also physically sound. They fit perfectly in to MM shape and team ethic.
IMO the form of strikers are a good general (not always the case) indication to the form of the team.

I think that as a partnership they are the best. 15 goals between them in 16, that's pretty decent for me.
