Town Confirm Williams to Miss a Month
Thursday, 13th Nov 2014 11:32

Town have confirmed that loanee Jonny Williams will be out for around a month with the groin injury he suffered during Saturday’s 1-0 home victory over Watford.

The 21-year-old was forced off just after the hour mark after a poor Joel Ekstrand challenge.

Physio Matt Byard told the club site: “Jonny has had a couple of scans and seen a specialist and it looks as though he will be out for about a month.”

Williams is due to remain with the Blues until the end of December, although reports earlier in the week suggested his parent club Crystal Palace had been considering recalling the Wales international prior to his injury.

Fringe players need to keep stepping up to the plate. So far so good. Get well soon Jonny, you will still be missed.

Perhaps some more Watford players would like to congratulate Ekstrand.

A disgrace to football that a player has been so obviously targeted in such a way to injure him on purpose! Watford should face disciplinary action as a consequence. Not that it helps poor JW, hope it's a speedy and full recovery!

This is where they game is wrong. That player should have been red-carded for what was so obviously a deliberate foul, and maybe even a fine awarded.
Instead they knew that that they could carry on playing. This is a terrible 'loop-hole' in the game that needs to be addressed.

Completely agree, Arthur. It was a cowardly challenge compounded by a weak referee. Officials have their part to play and Mr Ilderton simply failed in this regard on Saturday.

I know that the Championship is a physical competition when especially compared to foreign leagues, but there are legal ways of challenging and competing, and we have shown just how to do this with our good disciplinary record this season.

Jonny - and players of his stature and ability - needs protecting from the illegal (and in this case brutal) challenges which can destroy careers. I would not be cross if Mick repeatedly brought this up in pre-match news conferences.

Get well and get fit soon Jonny. No one will ever take your courage away from you!

Bad news but certainly not the end of the world as before Saturday we hadn't won a game that Williams has been involved in this season and we only scored after he went off Saturday . I think sometimes he hampers Dids game by running into the same areas and sometimes takes on too much ? Think young Bishop is a better compliment to Dids who at the end of the day should be our main playmaker

Anyone remember Berra's challenge on McManaman in the Wigan away game? Pretty similar and after he went off we bossed the game. Changed the game for me. I agree the challenge on Saturday was shocking but important to remember these decisions go in our favour some times.

So if it's his groin, how high was the tackle?? I was there and I see it, iv never seen a tackle like it! How the ref on give a yellow card is beyond me!

Watford player should be red carded retrospectively.

There must be a doubt that he will play for Town again this season. Palace look like they want him back in January and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't go back now. Williams hasn't had the same impact this time particularly with the injuries and The Bish and K-Bru look like they could fill the void.

As much as I deplore the challenge the challenge on Jonny, I can't help but think we would be more than happy for our centre half to wipe out the oppositions star player.

Just sayin'

I'm not saying he should or that it would be a good thing for football, but where does the law stand on this?

Can he bring about a claim for ABH against the player? Can he bring a civil action for loss of earnings, etc.?
