Loan Trio Won't Play for Town Again
Tuesday, 23rd Dec 2014 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy says Frank Nouble, Anthony Wordsworth and Paul Taylor won’t come into consideration for selection if they return to the Blues at the end of their loan spells on January 4th. Nouble is with League One Coventry, while Wordsworth and Taylor are with Championship Rotherham United.

McCarthy says there has been no word from their loan clubs but says the Sky Blues have given him the impression that they want to keep Nouble.

“I let him play in the FA Cup for them with a view that they liked him and would take him on for longer, but we’ll see," he said.

“I thought if they’d got no interest at all in taking him then I wouldn’t have let him play in the FA Cup. They might have been telling me porkie pies but I doubt it. I think he’s done all right, Frank.

“Woody and Paul Taylor, I don’t know. They started off playing for Rotherham and then they made changes and they’re not playing, so I don’t know. But their futures are elsewhere, the three of them, not here.

“They will be transferred, even if they come back they won’t be playing, they’ll go somewhere else.”

The Blues are already in talks with League One Port Vale regarding defender Freddie Veseli, who is also not in McCarthy’s plans.

Regarding Jack Marriott, who like Nouble, Wordsworth, Taylor and Veseli, is out of contract at the end of the season, McCarthy says he doesn’t know whether he’ll remain with Vanarama Conference side Woking beyond the end of his loan spell, also on January 4th.

“Jack hadn’t been playing regularly at Woking, he’s not had the same degree of success in terms of scoring goals,” McCarthy added.

“He needs to get that, he needs to play somewhere regularly and get some goals before he even thinks about getting in my team.”

Marriott, 20, has scored three goals in 12 starts and five sub appearances for the Cards this season, compared with 13 goals in 23 starts and one sub appearance during two spells last term.

This news is not a surprise at all to me.Doesn't sound as though Marriott will get another contract either.

At one point I thought Wordsworth was going to establish himself in the squad so not sure what happened there. Taylor was always doomed. I hope Frank stays at Coventry and makes a success of it. He's a tried who gives everything.

Pragmatic - woody isn't a bad player but he just couldn't get a run of games under his belt because he kept getting injured his back couldn't stand up to it. He has a lot of back problems it's a shame because the does have a good left foot.

Mick suffers no fools. Taylor and Woody, failed to conform, and challenged the management, bad idea! As for big Frank, he hasn't the consistency or ability for championship level, and Jack is failing at present to develop, maybe he too won't make championship level. Please don't say look at Rhodes, they are to separate bodies, and there are no reason to expect the same outcome. Mick has a good eye for a player, I don't think there's any arguing this point, and if work rate doesn't match....well just ask Jet, Martin, Chopra, Taylor and Woody.
By the way, some of us mentioned that S Evans was full of hot air when he talked up the Ipswich boys, and look now, neither of them making the first 11. Some on here believed these two players were Rotherham's star players!!!! Hats off to you Mick, I'm sure most now would agree, your the toast of the Town. COYB.

Time to draw a line under the Taylor debate. Mick has managed us to second in the league, Taylor not good enough to get in to the Rotherham team.

MM clearly knows what he is doing and has finally cleared out all the deadwood left by Jewell and the few surviving members of Keanes era.

I still feel that Mick is wrong about our superstar Paul Taylor...does anybody know how I can purchase tickets for Rotherham Reserve games?!?

I agree with all the above comments but I would not write Marriott off just yet I would like to see how he would perform in a better team with better service which is more likely to be the case in our under 21s team after all he did quite well in our pre season friendlies.

I think nouble is no worse than sammon who hasnt made a real impact in the games he has played. Id get nouble back on bench and send sammon back but thats just me i dont really rate sammon sorry

I'm sad for Woody, Marriot and Nouble, but wouldn't let Taylor near Playford Road, let alone Portman Road!

Agree. Would rather have Nouble than Sammon.

Nouble - way off Championship quality. poor.
Wordsworth - Unconvincing. No great loss.
Taylor - Undoubted ability, but if attitude not q right I guess not right for a MM Town team, especially now we actually have some flair and quality around the team compared to last season.
Sammon - Have to agree he is barely better than Nouble. Neither should be near a team chasing promotion. We should be able to get a much better reserve striker.

A team with any ambition of promotion to the Prem should not have either Nouble or Sammon...both are below the standard required.

People are saying the same things about Sammon that they said 18 Months ago about Murphy.

If MM persists with Sammon in the squad, then he (Sammon) must have something about him that we lesser mortals can't see as yet.

Patience folks.

Agree BLUEBEAt, nouble better than Samson. Given a chance, after Coventry experience, think he could do a good job for us, as, by being recalled, would boost his confidence, but will rely on MM to make the right decision and get us automatic promotion

Regarding the 4 players that MM is moving out, I believe the simple answer is that we are playing at a much higher level now,too high for any of those 4 to make, even the bench.

Can't say i'm bothered about Nouble or Taylor (though I can't for the life of me see what Sammon brings to the team?)...shame re Wordsworth but at the end of the day just not good enough I guess.

Kesgraveblue57 added 12:45 - Dec 23
It took MM along time to realise these four were more than useless and as for transfer who in there right mind would pay money for any of them ?

warktheline it would be no good asking lee martin what happens if your work rate is not good enough under mick would it? for a start his workrate was superb and secondly he was offered a new contract by mick himself and mick played him regularly

I think the performance of Frank Nouble at Crawley did it for MM. On that night Frank was worse than useless and it cost us. Wordsworth was never my cup of tea as far too laid back and Taylor is my biggest disappointment as he looked great for the Posh. He has let himself down badly though on and off the pitch and looks almost certain to leave on a free. I was excited when he signed but he has not helped his cause in the slightest. In Mick we trust that's for sure.

warktheline added 20:17 - Dec 23
Theobald1985, the reason why Martin left was because he wouldn't want to play for a manager that would continuously keep him toeing the line. He's wayward, lacks consistency and discipline. As you can see, he isn't lighting up the New Den.
