St Ledger Leaves Town
Monday, 29th Dec 2014 14:09

Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that Ireland international centre-half Sean St Ledger has left the Blues having come to the end of his short-term contract. McCarthy says that he’s happy to have Matt Clarke, 18, and Elliott Hewitt, 20, as his back-up defenders.

St Ledger, 30, joined the Blues a month ago after a short trial and made the first-team matchday squad twice but failed to make an appearance.

“He’s gone,” McCarthy said. “I’ve got Matt Clarke, who is excellent and I wouldn’t stand in his way by having somebody that’s not going to do any better than Clarkey.

“And I’ve got Elliott Hewitt out on loan at Colchester, who is on 24-hour notice. I’m not going to put a block in their progression by taking somebody in.”

If Smith or Berra got injured Chambers would step in then Clarke after him so St Ledger wouldn't get a look in.

I wish I'd stopped reading at Hegansheroes & 50years' posts. Good points and obviously correct to anyone who now ‘gets' MM&TC.

blueboy1981, you really are a ranting div. The Victor Meldrew of TWTD....

Weirdly 24hrs before this was announced a Leicester fan told me that SST won't stay long if he's not playing 1st team football. Proved to be right

I can see the point blueboy is trying to get across, however, I think MM has something up his sleeve. St Ledger & N Hunt obviously don,t quite cut the mustard & I fully expect a new face or 2 coming into the squad fairly quickly to bolster our promotion bid. Lets face it, he generally gets deals done way before we ever get wind of it.

...... the 'wait and see' people are out in force again - the very time we need a strong squad with arguably the most demanding time of the season upon us, we start trimming the squad, after strengthening over the past month or so, which cannot be denied, has certainly helped us acheive our current position.

Let's just hope MM has a few recruits up his sleeve to replace the departures, which seem to be stacking up right now with Hunt (N) gone too.

warktheline ........... hope someone bought you a dictionary for Xmas, which mayl help you understand the word Positive.

Being Positive and Ambitious = WINNING.

Being Negative = BEING SATISFIED WHATEVER.

I certainly don't come into the latter category - and proud of it.

Time for ITFC to 'push on' - NOT STALL - on any front. That's the essence of it all.

Blueboy,
Face facts, you don't like Mick at the helm, and you sure can't stand the man shuffling humble pie down your throat, with no respite.
Your pretence at 'never settle for mediocrity' is no more than a smoke screen.

Blueboy it hasn't escaped your notice that we have been WINNING. No one is currently satisfied what ever, what we are satisfied with is SECOND place. Were we not at least top 6 do you think eveeyone would be so happy? Of course not. Its not wait and see, it's if it goes (or indeed is clearly going) tits up fine, complain and call for heads but this constant assuming the worst is just beyond. You talk about realism yet expect the team to win every game? Is that realism? We're 2nd, right now i see no need to complain. Give the manager some credit.

Incidentally definition of positive is constructive, optimistic, confident (don't see much of that from you do we?)

there are several definitions depending on context but in this instance i think i have chosen the most suitable, pertaining to attitude and outlook

so in that vain, definition of negative, which offers many more options within said context- (in a person towards attitude or situation) not desirable or optimistic, or if you prefer a bad or unwelcome quality or aspect of a situation, certainly sounds more familiar dosnt it.

As i said there are many definitions and applications depending on meaning and situation but none of them come close to yours.

You must go on holiday and then complain on the 1st day that it will all be over in a week. Does the performance thus far this season not warrent a little bit of wait and see. Waiting and seeing has us 2nd atm, where has jit the panic buttton at the first sign of not walking the league have leeds righ now?

All accounts I read of St Ledger in U21 games is that he looked shaky. If he's struggling at that level I wouldn't want him near the first team.

MM tends to get these decisions right most of the time, no loss me thinks.....

My lord I have seen all these posts for this thread ,it is simple......we have a transfer window less than a weeks time ,MM would have done his homework and set his targets for ME to fund or a loan.
The players have faith in MM so its about time all fans should have the same(after the work and effort he has the team playing for each other) ,new players will grace PR and if we are fortunate to be in the top 6 at the end of the season ,I will be happy ,if we finish 2nd I will be happy ,we are playing good football right now ,if fringe players aren't up to MM liking then get rid ,its as simple as that ,then just bring in players that are.

Great that Mick is acknowledging Taylor & Hewitt..we do seem to have been bringing in some players on a bit of a whim though..how much money has St.Ledger cost us over the last few weeks I wonder?
