Quiet Deadline Day Expected Monday, 2nd Feb 2015 06:00 The final day of the January transfer window looks set to pass quietly at Portman Road with little movement in either direction. Clubs have until 11pm this evening to add to their squads, although Football League sides can utilise the ‘emergency’ loan provision from a week’s time until the fourth Thursday in March.
Speaking on Friday, manager Mick McCarthy said no one would be moving on, aside perhaps from young players going out on loan to gain experience. Out-of-favour striker Paul Taylor may well join another club or perhaps have his contract settled.
In terms of additions, it's likely that 19-year-old former Shelbourne winger Dylan Connolly's move to the Blues will be confirmed.
Aside from that McCarthy has said he will look at using the loan system as and when required in the remaining months of the season.
Managing director Ian Milne told Saturday’s Life’s a Pitch on BBC Radio Suffolk that no deals were ongoing and that no bids had been received for the likes of Tyrone Mings, Teddy Bishop or Daryl Murphy during the window, despite plenty of media speculation.
“Nothing at all. I can look you in the eyes and say we’ve got nothing going on, it’s very quiet,” he said.
“I was talking to the owner Marcus Evans and he said there’s nothing, no interest and that’s how we want it to be.
“My personal feeling is that the closer it gets to the final day of the transfer window the less and less we’d want to do a deal anyway because we want this team [to stay together]. It’s business as usual.”
The Blues are challenging for promotion for the first time since Evans took over in December 2007 and Milne says the Blues owner is keen not to do anything which might hamper the team’s chances of going up.
“Marcus takes advice from Mick and there’s been no change from the last time we were talking all about this in the last transfer window. Why would we want to change it with this team, it’s got strength and depth.”

Emergency loans are not any use at all. We could end up in the play-offs and not have the player available. Further, other teams HAVE strengthened. We couldn't even field a full quota of subs, with just three injuries a few weeks back. A striker and a player similar to Jonny Williams is an absolute must today. Otherwise, we can forget top 2. This hard working team has done very well, but now is the time to add that bit of quality or at the very least add to our reduced numbers. Half season loans are better than short term. Very disappointed with this news.

No problem we all love it in the Championship.

As Christmas went by, our fixtures after Derby looked like a dream, suddenly they now seem like a nightmare. 8 games in 28 days and on saturdays dire showing it is difficult to see how we can improve without one or two new faces to freshen things up. I would drop McGoldrick for Sears now. He has not been the same player this season. Head turned, the injury, who knows but hes become lazy and selfish.

A draw with Rotherham next week, sol that'll be another good point gained MM?

Just shows how ambitious our illustrious owner is imo. Best chance we've had in years of going up and no back up for the run only on loan.

I think most people know we have NO money. MM wanted the challenge and is doing well. Bournemouth have the money and momentum of a club on the up. We are perennial championship club that is having a better than expected season. If we go up with this squad. Mick will be given freedom of Suffolk and the fact is we can still do it Let Derby Bournemouth gamble, as we have seen in recent times it is a risky game to play.I still think MM has afew things up his sleeve! Gotta believe - JW on loan will be a massive lift to the club.

Yes, Sparky you are dead right my friend but it is not only a change of formation we need from MM, he needs a major shift in mind-set too. Somebody else mentioned Mick's tendancy to play his favourites and we have all suffered from that but now he MUST play his very best players and in their right hole too, not just those 'who once' did't let him down. But I still think his biggest problem to himself, therefore to us, is his fear of losing so he doesn't go for an outright win, nor continue to do so particularly if/when we go a goal up. He MUST change this philosophy right now or, frankly, we are going to start drifting away from the better Manager's among whose teams I include Bournemouth (1), Derby (2) and Middlesbrough (3) and watch what is happening down the road too!. Mick you have an extraordinary ability to find good people on the cheap and bind them into a cohesive unit but your inherent problems stop you achieving the ultimate. I think it would have paid you to have them psyched out then, with your normal ability, you would have been a top man. COYB

Milne is having a laff! We've not got strength in depth. Yes we've got players but many aren't good enough otherwise MM would use them!! As has been said I'd revert back to 433 as its the best with players we've got. Stewart should be given his chance from bench esp on Saturday when Parr came on. MM tactics baffle me but if he really was happy with point then its time he went. Howe would have and thats why he's got the squad that gets results. Take Muphy away and who's going to score? Not the midfield for sure!!

Derby have brought in Darren bent and Tom ince which gives them pace and goals, Bournemouth are prepared to spend Big, what about us?? Sod all as usual, No Murphy No hope! Are we one of the most boring clubs in the country?

Well i firmly believe that we will finish play off maybe or just below, the team are running on empty now! how can a cllub with serious intent not have sufficient players in the squad to have a full subs bench as per the other day? What exactly is wrong with Mc Goldrick this year i have no idea, but he is a shadow of his former self! Saturday was so dire i ended up doing the ironing!! just how sad is that? Murphy as above is running on empty, as is Berra, and many more, I,m very saddened by it all, i,m not being negative i,m being realistic, ask yourelf one question .....is this team good enough to face the like of Chelsea, Man utd/City, etc etc, i know i have my answer.

This forum is laughable. 2 weeks ago we were going up and MM was god, now we are also rans with nothing going for us apart from 51 points. Get real look at our bank balance and accounts then judge us against Derby and Bournemouth. Incidentally the deal for Gray going to bournemouth FC is going through in Switzerland, so iIt dont take a financial wizard to realise that a benefactor has put his hand in his pocket to complete the deal with a tax dodge. The club is performing miracles on a shoestring just appreciate what you have (look at Wigan nad Leeds)!!!!

Essexnblue - finally perspective on the whole issue. The rest, moan moan bloody moan. You would think we have a team 3 points from safety not from the top. I went Saturday and we were poor but for gods sake give MM a break.

Well said EssexnBlue - Shifty world of big business and football - maybe it is 'Arry behind Bournemouth or maybe his 'Dog' Now - I do understand that a certain ME has a base in Bermuda ?? What if ??.......Know we are Ipswich and gonna do it the right way I said at the beginning if jan - lets see where we are in a month Well we are STILL in the mix for a play off spot and conceivably automatics Let Bournemouth and Derby gamble I still think MM has a trick up his sleeve and lets face it after years of mid table boredom it makes a change to be talking about such things Perspective is neeed - well said lEssex and Kirb

Karls Dad... could it be that Dids just had an exceptional season last year which was why we picked him up from a lower league on a free ? He had struggled to make an impact at this level before in his career . Lets hope he can re find some of that form as without him we create very little as shown on Saturday

Evans personal wealth is near £1billion, no money my eye. Look at other owners who are rich, spend, spend, spend

Previous target Kenny McLean of St Mirren has signed for Aberdeen. Has had a great season and they didn't want much for him- missed opportunity to strengthen midfeld.

How can we not afford to spend when this is the closest we have been to getting promoted in ages! While we do nothing Bournemouth have just put it in a 5m bid for an 18 year old which was rejected but how can they afford to spend 5m on a youngster while we can't spend anything

Some on here are footballing illiterates. Here it is in Lehmans terms - WE. CANNOT. COMPETE. FINANCIALLY. WITH. THE. TEAMS. AROUND US. IN ANY. WAY. OR. SHAPE. OR. FORM Let the people at the top get on with it. Also I'm pretty sure we don't have 8 games in 4 weeks as I am sure there is an international break somewhere around, though I could be mistaken. People. Our window ends at the end of March. Things will be sorted. Let Mick and Marcus do what they can.
Kirbmeister added 13:49 - Feb 2
Luka - another realistic sensible comment, that makes at least 3 on here amongst all the moaning. You are right but even if we had the money what club, in January, are going to get rid of their good footballers. All the clubs are in the same boat, fighting like hell for something. Don't forget folks, our 'blip' in the league is 4 points from 4 games - hardly terminal!!
billlm added 14:07 - Feb 2
No real ambition from up top, you don't always get far by playing fair to nicey nicey,we've punched abovve our weight granted but if we don't make it this year I fear will be a few seasons without investment and risk until we have this opportunity again.
Jimmy86 added 14:19 - Feb 2
Kirbmeister, don't think it's moaning as such, it's just hugely disappointing we don't appear to be taking a massive opportunity to strengthen, bearing in mind we are in 4th and 3 points from top, our best chance of promotion in years for sure. Speculate to accumulate!!! We don't have enough strength in depth to sustain our push for automatic promotion. Play offs would be ok and progression from previous seasons, but having been 1st and 2nd not long ago, the top 2 should be our aim!!! Where's the ambition from Evans to get us up?? This is the only way he'll get his investment back!!!
Kirbmeister added 14:35 - Feb 2
Well i'm still optimistic, 3 points off the top and games coming up against Rotherham Sheff Wed Fulham Reading Birmingham. You never know perhaps we may do ok from here. I know i'm supposed to be all gloomy like most on here but i'm a realist. And re slamming McGoldrick, he has been excellent for us this season and definately suffering from lack of fitness. Cut him some slack.

Our squad is so thin that we couldn't even fill all the Subs bench against Millwall. God that is so embarrassing! My Sunday Pub team can put out a full squad and yet a professional football team can't!
