Murphy Nominated for Championship Player of the Year
Friday, 17th Apr 2015 11:10

Town striker Daryl Murphy has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year award.

The 32-year-old, who is the division’s highest scorer on 24 goals, is up against Patrick Bamford, who is on loan at Middlesbrough from Chelsea, and Watford’s Troy Deeney for the gong.

Each Championship manager was asked to list who they believe have been the top five players in the division this season in order with the overall top three receiving the nominations.

The winner will be announced on Sunday at the 10th annual Football League awards at The Brewery in London. Last year’s winner was Danny Ings of Burnley.

Murphy, who won the Sky Bet Championship December Player of the Month award, has already carried off the Town supporters’ Player of the Year, Junior Blues and Platinum Members gongs.

Nice boost before wolves game ,as an aside ,murphy has scored more goals than deeney and also bamford is only at bork due to their manager being best friends with mourino at chelsea. Mates rates players don't count.

As he's up against 2 other strikers surely Murphy has to win due to scoring more goals. Never mind the fact that he is far more crucial in our team for all round play than them two are for theirs

If it's between those 3 then with them all being strikers, Murphy has it in the bag. I would have had others in there, unfortunately someone like Bradley Johnson who has scored a decent amount from midfield, likewise Leadbitter although he hasn't been scoring much recently.

He certainly deserves that recognition. Well done Murph.

Surprised that a Prem player on loan has been nominated as 'Championship' player of the year. Perhaps there should be rules against that!

Why no midfielders? Strange.

Anyway, Murphy should win this. He is crucial to the team, scored some long range crackers, as well as his usual headers. And he's not finished yet...

The other thing that sets Murphy aside from Deeney and Bamford is that he doesn't fall over in the penalty area! A true footballer who trys to stay on his feet.
Hope he wins

As much as I'd like to see Murphy win this, I think as Middlesborough are fighting for an automatic promotion spot rather than the final Play-off spot that could be what swings it Bamford's way.

Stenvict: You're surely having a laugh!! Lead boots!! No way.

Even then, most of his goals have come from the penalty spot.

Bamford won't win young player so can't really win player so really a two horse race. All are strikers so surely the one with the most goals wins? That said Deeney has been very good this year.

The amount of goals scored by Murphy this season compared to his usual goal haul has made our season, he deserves to win.

This should be decided at the end of the season not 3 games (possibly 6) before the league is over.
