Butcher Appointed Newport Boss
Thursday, 30th Apr 2015 22:45

Former Blues and England skipper Terry Butcher has been named the new manager of League Two Newport County.

Butcher, who has signed a two-year contract, said: "I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to work for a fantastic club like Newport County, I have met a lot of great people at the club already and have seen the passionate fans for myself at recent games.

“I look forward to the new challenge and I’m looking forward to working together with everyone at a club that has great aspirations for the future.”

Butcher was sacked by Hibernian last summer following their relegation from the SPL. The 56-year-old has recently been living back in Suffolk.

I hope I'm wrong but I can't see this one working out...

Newport will be in the conference within 2 seasons with Butcher in charge. Legend of country and of this club, but his managerial career has been littered with sackings and relegation. Has a slightly better record managing clubs in scotland but like the previous poster has said, cant see this working out!

Justin Edinburgh did a decent job there and set some good foundations. Hopefully tel can progress them but given his track record in English footy as boss I struggle to see it working. Hope I'm wrong.

I don't like to name drop but as a former Denes High School Lowestoft class mate of Terry's I really hope he does well.
He evidently still has a great desire for management and maybe the switch to Wales will work out well.

Very best wishes Terry, you will always be a Town legend no matter what.
