Ando: Duo Should Consider Top Flight Offers
Monday, 1st Jun 2015 18:09

Out-of-contract Blues midfielder Paul Anderson says Town youngsters Tyrone Mings and Teddy Bishop should seriously consider any Premier League offers which come their way over the summer as they may not get the opportunity to join a top flight club again.

Mings, 22, and Bishop, 18, have been watched by Premier League clubs all season with Crystal Palace having made a £3.5 million offer for the Blues left-back last August.

"If they think moving is right, do it because you might never get in that position again,” Anderson told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"If your heart's with Ipswich, and if you think you'll progress better with Ipswich, then do that."

The 26-year-old joined Liverpool from Hull City in 2005 when aged only 17 but moved on without having broken into the first team at Anfield and says he’d make such a move again if he was in the same position.

"Fans might hate me for it, but if I was in that position at a young age again, I would sign for a bigger team in the Premier League and try to get loaned back to Ipswich.

"Nothing changes other than you've signed a nicer deal and in a year's time you might get the opportunity to play at a big Premier League team.”

The decision to move wouldn’t just be up to the players with manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans having said that they're determined to keep the squad together and with Mings having put pen to paper on a contract until the end of June 2017 last September and Bishop recently extending his contract until the summer of 2018 with Town having an option for a further season.

Anderson is amongst the players McCarthy is yet to offer new terms but who he isn’t ruling out keeping on at Portman Road, Town having failed to take up an option for an additional year on the winger’s existing deal.

In April, TWTD revealed that Fulham are keen on the ex-Bristol City and Nottingham Forest man, but Wigan are now understood to be the favourites for his signature, while Birmingham have also been linked.

Anderson says he’d like to stay with Town if possible: "I'd love to be here but I'm also in the position where I'm a free agent. There may be some clubs that can offer me a nicer deal, but it doesn't come down to that.

"I want to be happy and if Ipswich can offer me the best deal all round, not just talking about financial as I'm settled here, they would be my preference.”

Meanwhile, Coventry City have confirmed that Mark Venus and Jamie Clapham have joined their former Blues team-mate Tony Mowbray’s staff.

Venus has been appointed the Sky Blues’ technical director overseeing recruitment and the club’s “footballing structure”, while Clapham will be involved with coaching the first-team and U21s.

And he should sign as soon as someone makes him an offer.
He might not get another option. Certainly isn't good enough for anyone with Premiership ambitions.

Sound advice to be fair. If you want to move, then go. If your heart is in Ipswich then stay. Quite right.

I'm still surprised that we decided not to take up an option in a 26 year olds contract, but opted to retain Tabb who frankly isn't going to get any better, if anything worse. Odd.

itfcjoe ........ agree - but some on here will never 'grow up' - and will continue to see the picture with their 'blue tinted blinkers' firmly in position.

.......... how can anyone 'knock' Anderson for this ? - being totally honest in his view.

Can only assume that some people don't read, or can't interpret, what's actually been said.

How anyone can say 'he's burned his bridges now with this Club' is beyond belief - but that's how ... er mmm ... fickle - I guess some people are.

You just have to smile.

I'll tell you what Ando. I will lend you my Ferrari for a year, it will help you pull the birds & get where you want to be & then when you arrive at Monte Carlo, I'll have it back & you can get the bus home, fair?

That is what we are saying here aren't we? sell our best stars, loan them back, make them even better, maybe reach the Prem & oops not have them after a season! Utter rubbish.

The headline could equally be "Duo will progress better with Ipswich". What has he said that is news to anyone?

Dont really want anything to unsettle the young lads at PR, however Ando is prob right here. Move, get the cash and then get loaned back to a champ club to play. Loyalty is one thing, taking care of business is another.

Indifferent to this. What did everyone see in him? I just didn't see anything special - quite the opposite, in that he seemed to be a bit of a (hard working) chicaken décapité (frequently flapping so hard he almost took off) and he regularly gave the ball away through harried decisions (no ones fault but his own). Yes, he was our biggest assist giver, but WHOA... itfc could aim a little higher, oui? Maybe he will get better, but so might I! Good luck Ando.

Whilst I somewhat agree with what he's said (there's nothing wrong with ambition), there are some things that should stay in ones head!
It's like me walking up to Floyd Mayweather and saying he couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag. Think it don't say it! I'm guessing any chance of getting a new contract at the club has gone and quite interestingly why has the club chosen to allow the media to report this?

I do smile sometimes at the sentiments that these players would improve their careers here at Portman Road.

Their choice will be:
1. Go to a Premier League club and earn 3 maybe 4 times the salary per week. Train with some of the best players in the world. Be trained by some of the best coaches in the Country. Train using state of the art equipment at some of the best facilities going. or:

2. Stay at Town and get good match day time. Be guided by one of the best management teams in the division. Play a team like Watford (thank god they went up) who will take you out with a vicious tackle, because you are too good, and have an injury that keeps you out of the game for the best part of year.

I know what option I would take every day of the week.

Yes, that injury could happen at a PL club (especially as Watford have gone up) but you would sit there recuperating on 4 times the salary, being looked after by the best physios going.

If they are good enough they will succeed. Perhaps with Wickham he wasn't as good as we all wanted to believe he was.

Ive got no problem with what hes said. Hes been asked a question and answered it honestly and tbh i agree with him. Put yourselves in a young footballers shoes, youre offered a s#it load of money and premier league football, i dont believe anyone who says they wouldnt take it!

Such excitement about such nothing comments. To sum up what Ando actually says;

"If you want to go, go. If you don't, stay".

He doesn't actually express an opinion in terms of which he thinks is right for our young players. In fact he doesn't even name them.

Phil went fishing with this headline and he reeled in quite a decent catch!

your 100% right there souperjim. how this interview has been tampered with, cut up and then shown to the public in a way which is meant to percieve Anderson for of his comments?
1. please dont jump on his balls, the man is clearly being honest which is something not only hard to find in a pro footballer... but in humans them selfs.
2. also he is talking about his past experiences which didnt turn out so well for him and his life so for that i respect him for being so honest and open to not only the public, but to the media. best of luck which ever path you choose to take Paul.

Hey Ando,stop rocking the boat.

If you had not been so greedy you would have a new contract now.

Richard Wright is a better example, horrible ahent Barnett moved him to Arsenal to early. guess made a few bob for himself but virtually ruined Richards career.

Think Mick knows what he is doing.

I guess Paul was asked by the BBC for his comments on towns youngsters and, wisely or not, expressed his thoughts. As so many have said on here, he is only speaking from experience, but probably, in hindsight, would have been better to have kept his thoughts to himself. Probably means no further deal for him?

I have to be honest and say that neither are good enough for the Premier League but if a big money offer came in then they would be silly not to listen.
For me Tyrone is better going forward and has a lot to learn with the art of defending. Too often he loses the player he is supposed to be marking and it also infuriates me when he tries to block a shot with his arms behind his back.
Teddy and Tyrone are in the category of huge potential but need game time and they would get that far more at Ipswich then in a Premiership reserve side.

Stupid comment by Anderson really.

I think Mings and Bishop should stay put this summer and progress even further..if we don't go up next season then ofcourse Prem clubs will be looking at them again next summer and for even bigger money.

"If they think moving is right, do it because you might never get in that position again,”
So what is he saying ? They are not as good as people suggest ? If they are as good they will have plenty of opportunities in the future.
Saying he's only being honest is lame as he has no reason to comment on what others should do, unless a little bitter & trying to rock the boat.

Surco72 added 12:14 - Jun 2
I am with Bergholtblue ....why is staying with Ipswich better progression than going to a premiership team and training with better players and coaches on a daily basis ?
If Bishop or Mings went to say Arsenal even if they didn't play a first team match next year they would learn far more about how football should be played than playing regularly in a long ball tactic team in a physically harder league .
And they would obviously earn a lot more money also !!

Beattiesballbag added 12:15 - Jun 2
Maybe he's not bitter ?
Maybe he wasn't aware the manager wants to keep his best youngsters?
Maybe he knows the managers was just saying he wants to keep them so he can get the best price if other clubs come knocking!

Two words: John Bostock.

Be careful how quickly you decide to jump, because it could end with them being another number into the footballing abyss.

He was probably asked "do you think they should consider offers from top flight clubs?"
What's he supposed to reply "no absolutely not under any circumstances!"
