Mings Agrees Terms With Cherries in £8m Deal
Thursday, 25th Jun 2015 15:51

Town left-back Tyrone Mings is understood to have agreed a four-year deal with Bournemouth after Town accepted their bid of £8 million, with Brett Pitman and winger Ryan Fraser both set to move in the opposite direction.

Mings has agreed the terms subject to a medical, having held talks with the Cherries this morning, after being given permission to speak to them yesterday.

The deal, which it's understood could potentially rise to £10 million after the usual milestone clauses and includes a sell-on, is expected to be confirmed on Friday.

While Bournemouth striker Pitman is, as reported earlier, expected to join the Blues in the next couple of days in what's a separate deal - a free transfer according to local media on the South coast - Scottish U19 and U21 international winger Fraser is also due to move to Town on loan for the season as part of the Mings move.

Fraser, 21, started his career with hometown club Aberdeen before joining the Cherries in a £400,000 deal in January 2013. Last season the 5ft 4in tall midfielder - who operates on either flank, primarily on the left - made 11 starts and 16 sub appearances, scoring two goals. He is contracted until the summer of 2016.

News that the Cherries were targeting Mings broke yesterday when SkyBet slashed the odds of the 22-year-old making the move to 1/6.

Mings was watched by most of the Premier League last season with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea strongly linked.

Crystal Palace had a £3.5 million offer turned down last summer, while Newcastle were reported to have made an enquiry last week when they were said to have been quoted an initial fee of £8 million, rising to £10 million, again once further clauses were taken into account.

The Bath-born full-back joined the Blues from non-league Chippenham for a now-famous fee of £10,000 in December 2012.

Former U18s coach Russell Osman brought him to Portman Road for a trial on the recommendation of his son Toby, a team-mate of Mings, who had been released by Southampton as a schoolboy.

The one-time mortgage advisor made 49 starts and 15 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.

Town manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans have both said that they are determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, however with the Blues' spending power again limited by the Championship’s Financial Fair Play rules, selling a player for a big fee will give McCarthy far greater scope as he looks to strengthen ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

The Mings and Fraser and Pitman deals are likely to be completed on Friday, while Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also expected to have his season-long loan confirmed.

@Ipswichbusiness:
To be fair, I don't think we could have gotten more for Mings than £8m - £10m. Even if he stayed & had a great season, there is probably a limit on what someone without Premiership experience is actually worth. Cresswell could well go to City for £15m - £20m, but that's because he has proven himself week in, week out in the Premiership, Mings is a risk & still would be next season if he stayed with us.

A very good deal for us. All the best to Mings, I hope he enjoys his time with Bournemouth. Parr has seemed able enough to fill the LB role and I'm guessing October will be made back-up.

Pittman is a great addition and makes me wonder what MM is thinking of in terms of formation. 4-3-3 seems to be the best for us given our current crop of players. We could have a very exciting attack force if we can sort out our midfield and get the ball to them.

Can't say much about Fraser without going into FM15 but glad we're getting wingers at last.

I'm more than happy with the deal. Pitman's a decent player and we'll hopefully get a decent midfielder with a bit of the dosh.

Worried about Murph/McG still being here as well though, especially as Pitman's a starter.

IF Pittman does come in,I can see McGoldrick moving to an attacking midfield role.

How about :-

Bart

Chambers Berra Smith Parr

Fraser McGoldrick Scuse Bishop

Pittman Murph

As our starting XI ?

I shed tears as a 12 year old when Ray Crawford left us in 1963. I kicked a hole in a door when Paul Mariner left. I just got drunk when Kieron and Titus went to Newcastle and losing Mattie and Herman to Charlton just made me bad company for a long long time. I hate the prospect of losing Tyrone but I am just about getting used to it now (losing players that is). But we will move on as we always have. COYB.

Len_Brennan; I agree with you to a great extent. Mingus as he is now, this is probably a good price. However, I think that we all accept that he has huge potential. My fear was that if he ends up playing regularly for England and doing a good impression of a modern Kevin Beattie then we could find ourselves bemoaning the day we accepted a "mere" £8 million!

Not wanting to put a dampener on things but I think someone should point out that we haven't actually signed Pitman yet. The report above states that he is "expected" to sign.

We've had disappointments like this before, Nugent and Sharpe to name a few.

Fingers crossed that someone like QPR don't step in at the last minute and make a silly offer.

8 million for Mings is incredible and now shows that those Wet Spammers got a very cheap deal in Cresswell

ipswichbusiness. how many times do people have to be told on here. pretty much every penny of the cresswell money has been spent on players. no, not on transfer fees, but on loan fees ,agents fees, large signing on fees that out of contract players demand, and of course wages. remember weve only had the initial £3.75 m so far. none of the add ons which take it up to the £7.25m total fee.

If I remember rightly the boy Fraser is a good player, Pittman although he has scored goals at championship level always looked to slow but hopefully he will do well. From reading the EADT they are saying Mick had to sell to have any funds and out of all the players I would have sold Mings but it does ask the question are we the first club to be taken over by a near billionaire who wants to save money? Owning a football club is a thankless task, constantly shelling out but he must have been aware of this when he bought the club, blaming FFP for not spending when others are is wearing a bit thin, especially when we have just sold a player to a club who clearing ignored FFP and were backed by a owner who was prepared to put his money up? Everyone will now shout Keane and Jewell wasted his money and I agree with them but who appointed them in the first place? If another player has to go I would say Mcgoldrick, I personally think he is our best player on his day but I think he is running his contract out so we might as well cash in now and get something for him to reinvest

Unreal business. If mings played like he did the second half of this season through the next season id have been amazed if we got a couple million for him. To get this much money for someone who cost us a lot of mistakes and to get two players who both have really impressed me every time I've seen them. Quality deal from Mick. I hope Tyrone does well because he has a lot of potential to be top class but this is the perfect deal for us.

Great deals all around,Mings will need an attitude change or will be a bramble or dyer all over again so good deal for the fee quoted. Connor who was it? Similar fee. Great news about pitman and Fraser, goal scorer, goal provider.

Well I'm amazed. Bournemouth must be awash with more dosh than I thought.

Think it's a decent deal. 8 million for a 22 year old with one season of championship football is a lot. We get Fraser for a season, no idea if he's any good but he's not costing loan fee and he's young. It seems unlikely Mings will stay there long so we ought to get a nice sell on windfall.

I hope we get Pitman in, I think that offers 4 decent options up top. The sale means nobody else is likely to be sold and of everyone Mings Is the one I think we'll miss the least. Parr at LB suits me just fine.

Good luck to him, hope he shows the cherries that slated him last year what class he is.

Be interesting to see who else they shell out for.

Mixed feelings about this one, if he plays like he did until the end of Jan he is defo a star in the making. Let's hope we get a full £8M for starters & Pitman comes on top - don't want to pay too much for a Champ level striker - let's hope it doesn't mean Murph is going too?

Plus I hope we have a decent sell-on, as if he is going to be an England International his next transfer could be £30M..

we'll still play Tabb and hoof it up to Murphy

Cant grumble about this. I reckon we'll go for Byrne from swindon now. Fill that rb slot with chambo in the middle with berra. An attacking mid and another winger would be ideal before the season starts.

Sad to see him go, as I like the bloke and I think he's a better player than many on here seem to, with a lot of potential for continued improvement.

However, £8m plus add-ons, plus loan of another player (plus possibly also easing the Pitman deal) is a very decent return. And he's going to a Prem side, not one of our immediate rivals (one that is likely to use him, too, not just leave him to rot on the bench). Good for us and good for him.

So best wishes for the future, Tyrone and thanks for your contributions.

Always hate for ITFC to sell our best players though & this is another watershed moment - especially to a smaller club who are currently in a better financial & league position.

Who would have thought this two years ago when AFCB had just arrived at Champ level.

Does this make the Cresswell deal a poor one for Town or is this because Ty is destined to be even better, who knows?!

Want to see a fit Johnny Williams walk through the door this summer now, on a perm contract.

Blue014273...absolutely agree, but we know now that money when offered at the 2015 rates is a staggering incentive to a 22 year old. Tyrone seemed a nice guy and was an old fashioned" jumpers for goalposts" when he exploded on the scene with those galloping runs up to about last Christmas. But money too is an important ingredient to ITFC under the FFP rules, so it does look like everyone may have reason to smile.
He could go either way in the future, but to convert £10,000 into £8,000,000 is in itself " fantastic fair play"
(PS for 60 minutes at PR last season Ryan Fraser for Bournemouth looked as good a " nippy clever winger" as anyone we saw, so maybe , just maybe a positive move for 2015.16)

Very good luck to him - we will follow his progress with interest. However I do feel that he could have done with another season at Championship level before making the step up.

Blues1 - no I'm referring to the 17 year old from Arsenal and Fraser. Usually clubs would do their transfer business and supplement their squad with loans. If all three signings happen, two thirds would be loans. That's the only point I make. I think Fraser is a good addition. I'm just expecting more signings and permanent ones. I'm hoping the days of having eight or nine loans has gone.
