Mings Agrees Terms With Cherries in £8m Deal
Thursday, 25th Jun 2015 15:51

Town left-back Tyrone Mings is understood to have agreed a four-year deal with Bournemouth after Town accepted their bid of £8 million, with Brett Pitman and winger Ryan Fraser both set to move in the opposite direction.

Mings has agreed the terms subject to a medical, having held talks with the Cherries this morning, after being given permission to speak to them yesterday.

The deal, which it's understood could potentially rise to £10 million after the usual milestone clauses and includes a sell-on, is expected to be confirmed on Friday.

While Bournemouth striker Pitman is, as reported earlier, expected to join the Blues in the next couple of days in what's a separate deal - a free transfer according to local media on the South coast - Scottish U19 and U21 international winger Fraser is also due to move to Town on loan for the season as part of the Mings move.

Fraser, 21, started his career with hometown club Aberdeen before joining the Cherries in a £400,000 deal in January 2013. Last season the 5ft 4in tall midfielder - who operates on either flank, primarily on the left - made 11 starts and 16 sub appearances, scoring two goals. He is contracted until the summer of 2016.

News that the Cherries were targeting Mings broke yesterday when SkyBet slashed the odds of the 22-year-old making the move to 1/6.

Mings was watched by most of the Premier League last season with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea strongly linked.

Crystal Palace had a £3.5 million offer turned down last summer, while Newcastle were reported to have made an enquiry last week when they were said to have been quoted an initial fee of £8 million, rising to £10 million, again once further clauses were taken into account.

The Bath-born full-back joined the Blues from non-league Chippenham for a now-famous fee of £10,000 in December 2012.

Former U18s coach Russell Osman brought him to Portman Road for a trial on the recommendation of his son Toby, a team-mate of Mings, who had been released by Southampton as a schoolboy.

The one-time mortgage advisor made 49 starts and 15 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.

Town manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans have both said that they are determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, however with the Blues' spending power again limited by the Championship’s Financial Fair Play rules, selling a player for a big fee will give McCarthy far greater scope as he looks to strengthen ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

The Mings and Fraser and Pitman deals are likely to be completed on Friday, while Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also expected to have his season-long loan confirmed.

Incredible deal really considering we sold a far better left back in Cresswell for £2.5 million!

Hope MM gets a significant amount of this fee for players.

Great deal; although I am a little sad to see TM leave. He was prone to the odd error, but at times he looked in a different class.

As Fraser's contract expires in 2016 we'll have the opportunity to sign him permanently without a transfer fee. If he doesn't impress next season, it's cost us nothing but wages. Good business IMHO.

Think it's a good move all round. I always worry about failure to agree personal terms when we agree a fee for a player so hoping the deals are sorted ASAP as I believe Pitman & Fraser will be excellent additions

Should he stay or should he go now? Either way I think we win with this

Just seen that Clyne is going to Liverpool for 12.5 mill. That makes 8 for Mings look even better

....... incredibly reassuring to know we can no longer compete with the likes of Bournemouth - never thought I'd see the day that happened.

Maybe we have got the wrong owner after all.

Whilst on the face of it it's a good deal only if we have the money to buy and strengthen. History says not Cressie, Wickham to name two!
We don't have much of a left hand side but hey who cares hoooof.

Good move for Ty, good deal for Town. It's not the first time we've done this, and it won't be the last.
We'll miss him, both on and off the field - he turned up at Supporters Club events, whether invited or not, and was brilliant generally with fans.
Glad there's a sell-on - I expect us to cash in within 2 years... This lad has what it takes to be a top international.

By By Tyrone off into the wilderness I'm afraid his inadequacy will soon be found out at premiership level great bit of business Mick I think that deal could be the making of our season

A good move for Town and Mings. He gets regular football in a stylish side who play his style of football. If he does well he gets another big move in a couple of years. Town get shed loads of money and already have good options to cover and a couple of promising players to boot. Good luck Tyrone. Enjoy the ride!

Tyrone Mings has signed for Bournemouth from Ipswich this evening, and the deal should be announced tomorrow morning as long as Ryan Fraser's medical with Ipswich is passed, according to Sky sources.

In a separate deal, Bournemouth have also sold Brett Pitman to Ipswich. Pitman is currently having a medical at Portman Road, and the fee for the striker is undisclosed.

Suits me.
Yes he may turn into a decent centre-half, but for me I think he makes too many mistakes to be trusted there. He's not committed enough to play left-back for a top side either.
I reckon Titus was a better player and he didn't get to the levels expected of him (Dean Bowditch was to be the best thing since Teddy Sherringham if I remember correctly.....what happenend there?).
If it happens, a fabulous deal for ITFC....and Mings too, who really does need to learn to put his foot in and concentrate for 90 minutes. Take it while it's on offer.....please.
Oh, and Jonny Parr is a proper left -back so I for one will be much happier to see JP on the pitch and not TM!

Sky Bet Championship side Ipswich Town have rejected an enquiry from newly promoted Premier League side Bournemouth for left-back Tyrone Mings, according to FLW sources.

FLW understands that the Cherries have been snubbed in their pursuit of Mings

The 22-year-old is a target for numerous Premier League sides this year, including giants such as Chelsea and Arsenal, as well as relegation battlers Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion.

His top performances in the second tier last year have attracted these clubs as he almost seamlessly slotted into the void left by Aaron Cresswell, who departed for West Ham United during last summer's transfer window.

Bournemouth are the latest club to join the queue for the former Southampton man's signature, and have enquired over how much they'd need to cough up, with the Daily Mail suggesting he is rated at £8 million.

Blues1 - my source is from Bournemouth. It could be wrong of course, but they have been very reliable in the past, and informed of this deal before it was reported anywhere so I'm inclined to believe them.

I knew yesterday , so any body who thought otherwise didn't know , I could not say because I wasn't allowed to say because deal was being done. This is a very good deal for the club with other players coming.

Airliner, are you referring to the 2 b'mouth lads? The arsenal youngster? Or are we expecting other imminent signings?

Good luck Tyrone - think Bournemouth will be good match for you, and can see you flourishing in the Prem next year. We'll miss you at PR, but hopefully Big Mick can continue to work his magic in the transfer market and we'll see you in the Prem in 12 months time! Sounds like a great deal for both parties to me!

Sounds a great deal for all concerned. Like the idea of Fraser and Ty is going to a team who, although I don't much like them, should give him games. Good luck mate and let's spend the money wisely. Btw Pittman excellent signing for me if it happens
