Blues Again Linked With Austin
Thursday, 23rd Jul 2015 13:30

Town are again being linked with a move for ex-Leeds United midfielder Rodolph Austin, who is currently away with Jamaica at the Gold Cup in the USA.

Austin, 30, was previously mentioned in connection with a loan move to the Blues in February, a report which was dismissed by boss Mick McCarthy.

Following his release by the Whites at the end of the season, the combative midfielder was again said to be interesting Town in May but that his wage demands had ended their interest.

Now, according to Transfer Centre Live, the Blues are heading a number of Championship clubs for Austin’s signature.

The midfielder has skippered Jamaica to the final of the Gold Cup against Mexico, which will be played at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

Austin started his career in his native Jamaica with Portmore United. He moved to Norwegian club Brann initially on loan in 2008 before joining permanently the following year.

After four years with the Bergen club 6ft tall Austin joined Leeds United in July 2012. He made 101 starts and 11 sub appearances for the Whites and scored 10 goals.

We need to get a move on, other clubs signing players for big money, yet again purse strings are tight. ME hoping we will challenge again without spending money, it will not happen. Is it the 85 millon debt?

Bluejay - remember though that Evans owns the debt and is in fact paying himself back. Also, he bought that debt for a fraction of its worth. Yes, he added to it by backing RK And PJ, but ultimately the £85M debt exists on paper, it's owed to Evans, but he paid less for it.

Liam Bridcutt and Will Buckley are both available from Sunderland, either or both would make excellent additions and provide real quality. If we could afford them !

For a moment I thought we were linked with Charlie Austin.
If the Boro can splash the cash it is about time we did as well. Just what has happened to the Tyrone Mings money?

" If he was any good Leeds would want him, or am I being pessimistic again "

Same with N.Hunt, Chaplow, Varney etc. Mick knows what he's doing.

Don't know much about Austin but mick usually does well in spotting a player. Some cover in the DM area would be good, but as others have said we are in desperate need of a RB!! Think caddis from Birmingham would be a decent and solid signing at RB. But just hope that a RB is on the wish list for mick. COYB

Very good combative midfielder, in the absence of luke hyam for four months I think he would be well worth a one year contract with an option for further depending on appearances. Good cover for Cole Skuse as well, plus Skuse played at right back for Bristol for all of the 2011/2012 season so would open up another option for us.

....... another 'world class' player in the eyes of some - many of whom will never have heard of him until now.

Amazing how good they become once linked with us ..... !!!

Blueboy- what's up with you?
You seemed to have lightened up last year and now it's all doom and gloom again.
Come on son, chin up.

Derby have the best squad in the league in my opinion now. They have added Darren Bent, Alex Pearce, Scott Carson, Tom Ince and now Jason Shackell. They seem to know what they need and have gone out and signed those players very quickly. I'm worried we are going to leave it to late as Pitman is our only proper permenant signing...

Are the days of getting good, inexpensive Dutch players, who all seem so comfortable on the ball, gone? Imagine what a player like Reuser would add to our team. I guess everyone is looking for talent in Europe now, but in the past we have had some real gems, and they could turn a game.

I think our priority is defence and then cover for Hyam

We are fine for attack minded players IMO

People thinking that throwing money on a big promotion push should think again.
The likes of Derby and Boro are going for bust, but thats what could happen...they go bust. Money does not buy you the title. People complaining that we havent spent the Mings money blah, blah, blah should wake up.

Im not Micks biggest fan but I agree with his and ME's current policy of 'quality not quantity'. Wages are a big part of the deals. Pitman, Fraser, MN and Murphys new contract will have taken a big chunk of our funds.

We were'nt far away last year and some tweaking may be all thats needed. I think the Pitman signing, particul;arly, could be a master stroke and if we can utilise some of the pace and width that Fraser and MN (with back up from some exciting youngsters) will likely provide, we will be a threat. As long as we can be competitive like last season and be thereabouts at the business end of the season, Im happy....bring it on!!

Simply not good enough if we are aiming for promotion

There are a number of clubs really going for it this year. Really shocked that Brentford managed to sign Lasse Vibe; now that's a world-class signing.

Money (hopefully) won't mean everything this year, as we must be the club who has shelled out the least so far.

Wish we would sign a couple of quality defenders though. Relying on the youngsters is a real risk.

So much negativity in these comments! Isn't anyone excited that we have four strikers who scored 71 goals between them last year? That we finally have a bit of pace and creativity in midfield. That we've already scored 12 goals in 3 away friendlies, despite the fact Murph hasn't even had a kick yet?

IMO we're only a couple of decent additions - a full back and a new Hyam - away from having a squad to rival Derby's.

COYB!

Bobblehat .......... can't really see how being truthful is being all 'doom and gloom' to be honest.

'Proof of the pudding .................. and all that' - will see where we are - and in my opinion we need strengthening in certain positions to be both effective, and optimistic.

As for my last post, it is a fact that in the eyes of some, every player linked with us instantly becomes 'world class' ............. and we all should know, that is not the case, by far.

At first thought this was Charlie Austin. Here we have another average player, not good enough to win us promotion
