Blues Linked With McAnuff Move
Friday, 31st Jul 2015 12:00

Town are being linked with a move for veteran Leyton Orient midfielder Jobi McAnuff.

According to HITC Sport, the 33-year-old is in talks with the Blues about a move to Portman Road with Orient looking to offload the winger and his wage following their relegation to League Two last season. Talks about settling his contract are understood to be ongoing.

The Londoner started his career with the old Wimbledon before moving on to West Ham, Cardiff, Crystal Palace, Watford and Reading, prior to joining the O’s last summer. He has won 17 caps with Jamaica, scoring one goal.

Manager Mick McCarthy may well be keen to add an experienced winger to his squad, having brought in youngsters Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Ryan Fraser on loan from Arsenal and Bournemouth respectively earlier this summer.

As reported last night, we understand the Blues are in talks regarding the addition of three players with Danish left-back Jonas Knudsen expected at the club for a medical and contract talks today.

Trialist Giles Coke is also understood to be close to being handed a contract after impressing McCarthy in the last two friendlies and in training.

Transfer dealings are like buses round here, our squad should be in reasonable shape by next Saturday :)

Used to be a very decent player in his day. Presume he would be coming in to bring cover & experience to the side. A 12-months contract on a free, no harm I suppose.

Can't see this move coming to fruition.
Struggled at Leyton Orient- would be an odd move if true.

Not bad signing if I'm honest, great backup but we should also of had a look at the other winger there dean Cox seems to always hear his name when playing little bit younger too

Very useful player in his day, was surprised to see him drop down to League One, although he is getting on a bit now. Can't see him being too much of a threat to the starting eleven, but any competition is useful, could be a decent mentor to the likes of Henshall and Connoly...

Good cover for the 2 young wingers. Hope we dont sign Coke tho, think theres better out there.

I don't really see the point in this. I think he would just take up a space on the bench which could be given to Conolly/ Henshall/ McDonnell instead

How many wingers do you need in a team at the expense of proper midfielders?

would be good to see a right back and a dominant creative central midfield player. Why release Anderson in order to replace with 33 McAnuff. Anderson could also operate at right back. A little strange in my opinion , but clearly i don't know the full situation. As it stands vs brentford we will have two 18 year olds on the right hand side , hmm...

Given his age and experience, could this perhaps be with a view to him moving into a coaching role, whilst offering backup if necessary? We do have a number of young wingers/midfielders at the club who could benefit from having someone like him around.

When are we signing the creative centre midfielder, right back and keeper then?

Totally underwhelmed with this news, we've got loads of young talented wingers that never get a game, but this donkey will be started before them! Poor signing if true

looks like it would only be a trial if he can negotiate his exit from Orient over the remaining year of his contract. Agents are flooding play ford rd with players available ,dvds , you name it. I just wish Mick had a clear identity in mind via scouting network as opposed to not.

You mean like a Danish player at a club in Denmark Bluefeast?

Isn't that a scouting network?

D'oh!

Strange one. I'd imagine it's only short term but can't see him being any better than what we already have. McCarthy's proved me wrong time and time again though, so I'll go with the flow.

I trust MM but I can't help but think we can do so much better than this.

Bluefeast I suspect parr will play right back at Brentford so not an 18 year old. Don't know why people don't like coke seemed a decent player when I've seen him.

always thought he was very descent at reading the couple of times I saw him play. He was one I hopped we'd get when his contract ran out a couple of years back. Did realise he was that old though

Unfortunately past it - a few years back would have been a reasonable acquisition but maybe just a fringe/squad player at best if injuries occur.

Josh vela, Jordan mcghee, etc all just pie in the sky then? Here's me thinking we are going to have a good old cracked at it this year

WAS a good player! enough of McAnuff,.............33 years old!

There must be plenty of decent Danish midfield players who would improve our squad of a similar age to our new fullback..........with out breaking the bank!

If we are going to spend good money on a way past their best winger, wouldn't it be better just to have kept Stephen hunt?
