Blues Linked With McAnuff Move
Friday, 31st Jul 2015 12:00

Town are being linked with a move for veteran Leyton Orient midfielder Jobi McAnuff.

According to HITC Sport, the 33-year-old is in talks with the Blues about a move to Portman Road with Orient looking to offload the winger and his wage following their relegation to League Two last season. Talks about settling his contract are understood to be ongoing.

The Londoner started his career with the old Wimbledon before moving on to West Ham, Cardiff, Crystal Palace, Watford and Reading, prior to joining the O’s last summer. He has won 17 caps with Jamaica, scoring one goal.

Manager Mick McCarthy may well be keen to add an experienced winger to his squad, having brought in youngsters Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Ryan Fraser on loan from Arsenal and Bournemouth respectively earlier this summer.

As reported last night, we understand the Blues are in talks regarding the addition of three players with Danish left-back Jonas Knudsen expected at the club for a medical and contract talks today.

Trialist Giles Coke is also understood to be close to being handed a contract after impressing McCarthy in the last two friendlies and in training.

A few years ago yes, not now.

Good experience but probably not much better than Edwards was towards the end.

Not sure about Jobi, we have Connelly, Henshall, Maitland-Niles, Fraser and Stewart that are all wide players.
Plus Parr, Tabb, Sears and Bish can play wide midfield positions too if required.

Im sure he could do a decent back up job, but at 33 and not playing regularly, will he be fit if called upon? Youngsters are naturally more energetic.

As for Coke, yep id sign him. He seems to get on well with the squad and is experienced in the midfield battle ground.

Love the stick ,when people are not armed with facts ,hey ho etc. "

What are you talking about Bluefeast? We have just signed a young Danish full back who is a full international. It's the type of signing we'd be seriously jealous over had our rivals pulled off the deal. The poster replying to you to clearly pointed that out to you, i.e. great scouting by the club, in response to your moaning about how the club should be trying to scout players. Them's the facts.

Danish player should be useful. Cost around £400k. Other two add little and more bargain basement moves. Talk of useful cover and acting as mentor absolute nonsense. MM says no point bringing players in if no better than we have. Then he does just that!!!
We badly need a couple of experienced quality players.

How old was Edwards when he signed? McAnuff was captain at Reading wasn't he? I don't see the harm on a 1 year deal.

I want to see young exciting players at our club who are hungry for success AND a central midfielder who can put his foot on the ball and create in the mould of Jim Migilton, we haven't had that creativity since he retired. Getting promotion isn't everything but building a good solid squad with a future is, there are too many journeymen in football these days! For me it's still a goalkeeper, right back and central midfield Magilton we need!!

Agreed good player in his day. Can't see him being any use to us, even as just a squad player. Wish we could even just be linked with a young exciting player

He's old, and he's free, what more could we want ?

Someone who wasn't a regular for a team relegated from a division below us, and he is expected to be part of a squad battling to get into the Premier League.

Not good enough for a promotion chasing championship side. Past his best. We can do better.

Just paper talk i hope. I agree with others would rather have Anderson or Ambrose come to that if we need an experienced wide man.
